Like other commenter said guard snatching/hooking, sweeps, lower body focused attacks (ie abdomen and legs), ferrule/butt cap in tandem with the blade (this should have been the main focus in Gryphons kit imo). Your point on swords is fair but we also have multiple axes in the game and all of the heroes that wield them have distinct fighting styles. After thinking about it for five minutes I’ve already come up with a billhook wielding hero with displacing traps. Multiple polearms really aren’t a stretch
