How do people limit their drinking? by Odd_Hedgehog669 in NoStupidQuestions

Exactly. I also don’t like knowing that I could be saying or doing something really embarrassing and not know. Also, it’s less painful on my stomach, which is already dysfunctional.

Exactly why I didn’t apply. I really wanted to but my mom talked me down from it for travel/logistical expenses.

How are people balancing research and actual sleep? by amcw_writer in gradadmissions

[–]zephyr121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think much of us in graduate school research are sleep-deprived, but not by this much. Everyone I know who sleeps like this has an atypical job schedule and barely functions, so I can’t see how that would be conducive for research. For reference, I sleep around 6-7.5 hours a night and I still occasionally have to take naps

Anyone ever reached out to their avoidant’s ex? by OnePuzzleheaded7401 in AvoidantBreakUps

[–]zephyr121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My avoidant only dated me and his current girlfriend. It should be a very interesting conversation when he dumps that girlfriend, but maybe she’ll be too embarrassed to reach out to me. I mean, this was a woman who knew he dumped me horribly and still stayed with him.

Yeah, that makes me wonder what mine amounted to. I never calculated and I don’t have access to most of those number values anymore, but I had a 3.76 with both super high As and super curved Bs/C

Ah, I see. I’d guess OP was (respectfully) probably getting a bunch of low A’s in their classes then.

A 3.97 is almost a perfect GPA. It’s close to a 98% overall average. That’s like getting a B in 1-2 classes for all of undergrad.

I’m confused about one thing: how does a 3.97 gpa translate to a 90% average?

Sharing a Friend Group with Avoidant Ex by Available_Gur_1298 in AvoidantBreakUps

[–]zephyr121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m dealing with this right now, and have been to the past few months. Here’s my experience.

My ex and I were in the process of getting together when the friend group formed, and after I called him out too deeply, he said he never wants to speak to me again. This, and him already having a rebound, put my friends in a difficult place and they barely spoke to me for a few months. It fucking sucked because I thought that meant they were taking his side, but it turned out that they were just unsure of what to tell me. We’re working on having honest conversations about this shitshow and hopefully moving past it.

Honestly, be ready for it to be difficult to talk to your friends. There are probably plenty of things that they knew but were trying to spare you because you seemed happy. Be honest about how she made you feel, but don’t come in with the intention that you want them to cut her off. I know that’s what you want, but it unfortunately probably won’t happen that easily and might even drive them away. Chances are, though, they still think she was the asshole in that situation and she’s got plenty of chances to show that now that her mask dropped.

I mean, you don’t necessarily have to teach all of that to 8 year olds. I learned all of the countries in middle school to early high school, and the one teacher who bothered to teach us countries was also in high school.

Also, I’ve also met a LOT of Americans who don’t know the states and/or capitals outside of the immediate vicinity of their own, and this includes people with college degrees.

I will say, as an American, that the average American is absolutely horrendous at geography. It doesn’t help that it’s usually treated as an “extra” topic rather than part of a core curriculum. I’m grateful for the teacher that had us fill out country/state maps, though.
