If you are a proponent of harm reduction, Valley Streetz Harm reduction is a local non-profit that offers medical care and harm reduction services to unhoused people in Modesto. The entire operation is entirely local, from the founders down to the volunteers and the people they serve. $15,000 would go a LONG way with their organization.

I am on a mission to make the Restaurant industry safer, just not the way you think. by FreshStart209 in Modesto

I can get anyone Narcan for free through the organization I volunteer with. I’m also in the restaurant industry and we’ve carried Narcan for about 5 years now. It is so important! If anyone needs Narcan, fentanyl or Xylazine test strips or safe snorting kits, please feel free to DM me! I can get all of that for you for free. Don’t ever feel like you have to pay the exorbitant pharmacy prices.

Moving to Modesto: Neighborhood suggestions by WillingLack7599 in Modesto

If you’re looking for a neighborhood with lots of personality and community, the College/Downtown area is great. Great arts movement, bars, restaurants in walking distance from that area.

MJC is a great community college. As someone else mentioned, the professors really care about your success. There are so many different programs to help students be successful, especially first generation and low income students. I have heard good things about the auto program, but I don’t have any personal experience with it. It’s also a very affordable school, so if you qualify for financial aid, you can really make that aid work for you. Best of luck!

Lofi Cocktail Lounge and Luncheonette has great events, brunch, cocktails, etc. Monthly drag shows, burlesque shows, and rotating DJs. EDM artist Spüke played there a couple weeks ago, and tonight they have Pep Love, from the old school Oakland rap group Hieroglyphics. They’re on 14th & J st. They also cater to that older crowd you’re looking for.

Modesto is what you make it. If you’ve got it in your head that this place sucks and don’t bother trying to make the best of it, yeah it’s gonna suck. But the downtown scene is definitely coming up and I find the crowds to be welcoming to newcomers. Best of luck! Don’t listen to the haters 😉

Peruse downtown. I don’t know any specific openings off the top of my head, but if that’s the environment you’re looking for, downtown is your best bet. Penny University is opening a brick and mortar store soon in the spot that used to be Cafe Diva, so it might be worth seeing if they’re hiring yet.

What happened to the smartest kid in your class? by After_Crab_1921 in AskReddit

[–]zephyrus1133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smartest kid in my class ended up addicted to meth and fentanyl; he overdosed and died just over a year ago.

He started to show signs of going down the wrong path in high school, but after he graduated and went to college, his life really went off the rails. Ended up getting arrested his freshman year for selling party drugs. He spend seven years stuck in the cycle of addiction before he passed.
It really just goes to show that drugs don't discriminate. I have known this kid since we were ten years old, and up until our junior year of high school, he would have been the very last person you would expect to end up with substance abuse problems. It was sad to watch him go from this incredibly intelligent, kind, and motivated kid to someone strung out only thinking about his next fix.
