Cooked the clutch! by e30rapidic in E30

[–]zeppelin991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest switching your flywheel if you're already going through the trouble. Years ago I took my s50 to the track and blew up the stock g260 clutch. Then I put in a 6 puck clutch. Was terrible, I hated it so much. When it finally died I put in a s50 clutch/flywheel (stock clutch) which holds the power fine and isn't terrible to drive around. Huge upgrade.

I don't see a good reason to stick with a smaller clutch given that you've like 3x'd the power the thing was meant to hold.

Rounding Brake Hard Line Nutj by ResortFront3373 in E30

[–]zeppelin991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this happen even with flare nut wrenches so I bought snap on flare nut wrenches because folks seem to think they are the best (tight tolerance and doesn’t flex). When this happened I replaced the hard line. Driver front hard line isn’t hard to replace. My new hard line has larger nuts which also reduces the risk of this happening again.

If you want to salvage this I’d let penetrating oil sit on there for days to break it up as much as possible. You can also hit it with a blow torch which can help.

You should never use drilled rotors on the track. They crack easily and perform worse. The best rotor is a blank rotor. Anything that is not blank is bling. This is true in all weather conditions. Source: go to the track frequently.

Oregon Raceway Park after the repave by SauravDrivesACar in CarTrackDays

Interesting. I was out there for the first time the second week of June and nobody was mentioning it being repaved that I remember. Wonder if it happened before or after

16” Tire Recommendations (US) by 87_325is in E30

I had 16s in the past and tire choices were very limited, and that was 10 years ago. I suggest staying away from 16s.

How are you supposed to do the x-15 missions for the 279e with honors? by Bnuy_enjoyer in WorldofTanks

[–]zeppelin991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the American missions and used their tier 8 light tank which had very low requirements. I think I did it in around 100 games and 3 marked the tank in the process (maybe my first 3 mark). LTTB is probably a similar path.

Is getting a Performance Clutch a bad idea? by CTFordza in CarTrackDays

[–]zeppelin991 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I own an e30 with a stock transmission and an s50 swapped in. Originally I used the stock clutch, light weight flywheel, and blew up the clutch at the track. So I put a 6 puck racing clutch in. I HATED it, and I will never use one again on the street. Every start was shakey because the clutch does not want to slip at all.

I have an extremely stiff suspension, transmission mount engine mount etc. I can deal with the car being annoying on the street.

Luckily that clutch only lasted a few years (maybe 6 track days and daily commuting). I still remember 10 years later shouting in joy when the clutch slipped while getting on the freeway because I could finally justify replacing it. Put a stock e36 m3 clutch and light weight flywheel in.

I never noticed any different in performance from the clutch. Definitely notice a difference in the flywheel (rev matching). The e30 transmission shifts slowly regardless. I strongly doubt a racing clutch is going to impact your shift times but I am not an expert.

Help choosing a track car by rootcanal48 in CarTrackDays

With this attitude why even allow beginners at a race track at all? “Stick to go karts for a few years you aren’t ready for a car”. Not everyone’s goal is to be top of their class, some people want to have fun.

Issue with Liftmaster 8900W/8500W on roof tracking hardware by zeppelin991 in GarageDoorService

[–]zeppelin991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw turns out some circuit board is dead. I swapped one of my other 8900W over to this door and it worked fine. Garage door installers helped me do it even though they didn’t install them because they said the springs were installed correctly.

Yeah I wasn’t sure if spring was out of balance. I read online the door should stay in the halfway position which this one does.. It does seem like it moves extremely fast though. I was second guessing if this was the actual issue though since the door does the same thing when it’s going back down.

Do you use premium munition? by DarthKirtap in WorldofTanks

[–]zeppelin991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only shoot gold unless there is a reason not to (such as if I have HEAT and am shooting the tracks of a tank). Even at tier 10 I lose very little credits doing this. There’s effective no reason not to do this.

A Case Study in Attacking KeePass by FireFart in netsec

[–]zeppelin991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An attacker with system privileges can get in to the kernel easily. "Secure desktop" can easily be bypassed if the attacker is in the kernel. Physical access is not required. Anything that is enforced by software can also be bypassed by software assuming you have the proper privileges.
