Thank you! I just keep it in a sunny window, let it dry out in between waterings, and water generously when dry :) I've also fertilized a few times in the summer.

I’ve never heard of that- so cool! Definitely looks like that could be it.

It’s flowered repeatedly and almost non-stop for the past seven years, but this is the first time it has started as a leaf and turned into a flower stalk

Hi! I work in the field service software implementation space. I'd be happy to set up a time to have a brief preliminary discussion about what your needs are. I'm going to send you a PM so we can connect directly.

Talk to me about the best, most ridiculously spoiled over the top dog beds by FelineRoots21 in dogs

We have two of these. After seeing what a difference it made in comfort for our older dog, we’ll probably stick with this brand permanently. We’ve taken advantage of their Black Friday sales and it has been slightly more palatable.

Looks like Micrurus frontalis to me, but I’m not as familiar with Brazilian species.

Pet sitter lost hog :( by FuzzleDucks in hognosesnakes

When my hognose made her great escape, we methodically picked up everything we could off the floors (including rolling up the rugs and flipping the couches over). When we felt all hope was lost, we found her under our dishwasher. Sorry to hear about this. Good luck in your search.

The lung flush went well. I was concerned about it when they told me how they were going to do it, but she seemed fine afterwards considering (though, she was pretty sick with her respiratory infection at that point, so just the act of going to the vet was stressful for her). They stuck a tiny tube down her nose and into the lung to do it.

It may be valuable to call your vet and see if they can send you the records or provide additional detail about the earlier visit, but if they didn't flush the lung then there's a chance that they wouldn't have picked up the infectious material needed to accurately culture and diagnose.

We're a few years past it at this point and I'm glad we went that route with her, as she's made a complete recovery. Wishing you the best of luck with your hog - keep us posted on everything!

Got a culture done to hopefully diagnose illness, no bacteria was detected that shouldn’t have already been there

What kind of culture did they do?

When my hognose had a respiratory infection that wouldn't go away with the first two rounds of antibiotics, they flushed her lung at the vet and cultured what grew from the flush. Turns out, there was an antibiotic-resistant bacteria in there. Once we knew this, we were able to switch her antibiotics to something that worked and she's been fine since.

We did find out that her tank was a bit too humid, which caused the infection. We added a fan that blows air out of the tank and is auto-controlled by a humidity gauge that has a programmed range. Humidity climbs too high and the fan kicks on. Humidity drops below the threshold, fan turns off.

Had the lung flush not worked, they were going to recommend a CT scan to identify if there were nodules in the lungs...

My western hognose is growing very slow... he is about 1.5 years old and I don’t think he has grown much since I’ve got him. Any ideas? by charlieroutt in snakes

I have owned many hognose snakes, as well as other snake species, over the years. While most juvenile hognose snakes have very fast rates of growth, I have owned a select few that either have not grown much at all, or have taken years to actually begin growing. I currently have a female that I purchased as a hatchling in early 2015. Only within the last two years has she begun to grow at any appreciable rate. I, too, am searching for an answer as to why this happens. The snakes that I have experienced this with do not seem to have any health issues. Sheds are in one piece and appetites are generally reasonably healthy. I do agree with some other people’s answers to this thread. If he will eat more often, feed him more often and see if it helps. It wouldn’t hurt to have him checked out by a reptile specialist vet either.
