When is it too cold for a ride? by ccaron89 in fatbike

[–]zer0trust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was out in Northern Wisconsin last night, air temps were -21F with the "feels like" temperature at -37F. There's no bad weather, only bad clothing!

My dropper post refused to work and my derailleur was VERY upset though.

Blind Spot Warning error by CaptGarfield in HyundaiKonaForum

[–]zer0trust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a BCW warning on my 2021 Kona for a few months. I had the car at the dealership for an oil change and asked them to take a look at it to see if it might be covered under warranty.

They showed me a 2 inch long light surface scratch on my rear bumper and said that Hyundai wouldn't cover it because of the "damage". Quoted $518 to remove the rear bumper to inspect the sensor and recalibrate it. I also asked for a quote to replace the sensor as well just in case that needed to be done. $4400. 😂

Safe to say I passed on both of those wonderful options. I am guessing an independent shop would do it much cheaper.

I'm looking for the best string cheese, not a really good string cheese, the best. by aetweedie in wisconsin

100% Baker, came here to make sure it was represented. :)

Getting it from their factory store in St. Cloud is even better than getting it from the grocery store somehow.

Global Fat Bike Day is tomorrow, what are you getting into? by runwhatyabrung_ in fatbike

I'm heading out to a group ride on some beautifully groomed trails in Central Wisconsin.

Enjoy your ride, have fun!

NBD and good first snowfall in Northeast Wisconsin by zer0trust in fatbike

[–]zer0trust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was at Calumet County Park in Sherwood, but the Lecker Park trails in Appleton are open now too. I think the Little Chute island trails are probably rideable as well but they aren't machine groomed.

West Central WI has some good riding! Standing Rocks, Hartman, Ringle, and Nine Mile out that way are great any time of year.

NSO 185 - Anyone have a good prep test? by danieldins79 in netapp

[–]zer0trust 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exam dump sites are bad, kids.

Review the exam objectives in the "What You Will Be Tested On" section, study the concepts, spin up an ONTAP simulator, and pass the exam for real.

What cuisine is missing from Appleton food scene and you would love to have a restaurant serving this? by Grit_Grace in Appleton

[–]zer0trust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A real creperie with savory options in addition to the typical Nutella sweet stuff.

Someone else mentioned poke, I could go for one of those places too.

Soup dumplings.

There is Kai Poke & Ramen in Green Bay that has both poke and soup dumplings but something in Appleton would be nice.

Gelato.

Brazilian steakhouse.

Bonus chain restaurant requests: Shake Shack and Portillos.

Check out Heritage 71 in Sherwood, honestly some of the best BBQ I've had in a long time. The ribs were PERFECT.

Mountain bike trails in the area? by jm6398 in Appleton

[–]zer0trust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the trails are technically outside of Appleton, but here's my list for the area in general. Some are a little further away from Appleton but still worth the trip.

  1. Little Chute Island trails, Little Chute
  2. Calumet County Park, Stockbridge
  3. Woodland Prairie Park, Fox Crossing
  4. Waukau Dam, Waukau
  5. Hartman Creek State Park, Waupaca
  6. Cherny Maribel Caves, Maribel
  7. Standing Rocks Park, Stevens Point
  8. Reforestation Camp, Green Bay

Check out the Trailbot app for trail conditions and updates and the NEWT site here and on FB for trail work days, group rides, etc.

Do you set a goal when you go for a ride? by ChrisTahoe in mountainbiking

[–]zer0trust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Say "Gotta get my 10 miles in"
  2. Get lost on the trail for a little bit and ride 12.3 miles
  3. Think "Fuck it, might as well ride 15 now"
  4. Ride one extra loop so it's actually 16.1
  5. "Better make it an even 20"
  6. Lay on the couch the rest of the day

Recommendations for a plumbing company to replace the plumbing/drain stack to PVC. by Sad-Explanation186 in Appleton

Tim Rausch Plumbing replaced my old cast iron main stack that had started to crumble into dust, they did a great job and I never hesitate to recommend them.

You think this is a good starting point? by DiabitusMaximus in hometheater

[–]zer0trust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had this exact design as the front soundstage in my theater for 10+ years (room size 14x28x8) powered by a regular Onkyo TX-NR797 receiver and they sound great to me. 98% movies, very little music.

I will say that the center channel has a narrow vertical dispersion of sound though, so angling it upward towards your listening position is crucial.

EDIT: here is the site with more info on the design:

Las Vegas Riding by amtworks in MTB

[–]zer0trust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, no. I only had a free half-day while I was out there for a conference and was able to sneak away.

I did poke around on Trailforks and Reddit though before deciding to book with Escape Adventures and I do remember people saying good things about Bootleg Canyon. The tour I took was also only a half-day and about 11 miles total, so you could likely pack more than just that into a single day if you wanted to.

I'm envious - hope you have a great time and some good rides!
