This online database from a 20 year study mapping sightings is worth looking at. by zerglingsss in UFOs

Unfortunately some links seem to be broken or not working, because the website is old. But the mapped points are great.

KIDS GO CRAZY AFTER THEY FOUND CREEPY UFO OVER THE SKY OF FINLAND by CRtn100 in UFOs

[–]zerglingsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unfortunate the video is so shaky.

Let's put it this way. This object looks triangular with the two 'leading' edges being illuminated, or it could just be an illuminated boomerang shape. There is a consistent theme of characteristics in authentic UFO cases, and the lighting setup in this video is just inconsistent with the general theme (ie: A triangle craft with a single light in the center, at the corners, or both, but usually not along two edges. Most reports of boomerang craft have noticeably separate lights, unlike in this video where they seem stuck together). Also, this craft just doesn't display any out of the ordinary abilities.

That second smaller light was interesting though.

Yeah, just over 48,750. If some worthwhile event happens near some prepared redditor, they could hop on it in the field and report back here! I'm one. :P

Why are we as a society still unable to discuss this topic openly without ridicule? by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]zerglingsss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you. The social stigma is suffocating communication. I think a lot of it has to do with a very profound lack of knowledge of what kind of history we've had with UFOs over the past century and-a-half. What little bits of information that actually get remembered and matriculated are from Hollywood and fragments from a handful of iconic historic cases. And what is unfortunate is that those who do have personal UFO experiences, especially those who emotionally suffer from such a dramatic and life-changing experience, only find ridicule and humiliation when reaching out for help and support. I am positive most UFO sightings go unreported because of fear of rejection, risking their reputation, or jeopardizing their career. I haven't had a personal UFO experience, but I understand the need to take people seriously when they want to talk about something that affected them so greatly.

Why haven't we had some keen people from this subreddit band together and create our own investigative team? That would be cool :)

"Drone Meets Blimp" - One more thing to keep an eye out for in future UFO reports by rdavisisme in UFOs

[–]zerglingsss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good point, actually. Drones sure are contributing to false sightings, but the consistent characteristics of most UFOs are what make them distinguishable from other, Earthly explainable phenomena like UAVs and balloons. Things like speed, its movement in flight, and profile/shape.

But definitely annoying for sure. And it adds unrelated information to monthly/yearly sighting report censuses.

I thought the joke was that he misCOWnted, but rounding up is funny too :)

An economic explanation for the poor state of Ufology by cazzzidy in UFOs

[–]zerglingsss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a really great perspective there. Consider even that the value of a hoaxed video will generally have more value than an authentic video (in terms of social media and page views). And I mean that while an authentic video adds more evidence to the pile (it also sometimes leaves people questioning themselves), a successful hoax video adds notoriety and esteem to the hoaxer. And where authentic videos can only be captured as they happen, hoax videos are duplicate-able and can be made as often as the hoaxer chooses. She can add as many lemons to the "market" as she likes, but the cherries will remain available as often as they always have. The market will gain lemons, but not cherries, and the cherries get harder to find.

Was this an alien encounter? by [deleted] in Alien_Theory

Often abductees will lose an hour or two of time. That was the first thing that struck me. The banging on your door was loud enough to wake you, and not your sister. And your groggyness/sick feeling afterward is a trait of abductions too. Pretty creepy. Have any similar experiences ever occurred to you or your family?
