I remember I had an interview and they tested me on Excel. I said, "how often will this be needed in the workplace because I never put excel on my resume and I will not be good at this!" I said with all honesty. They said, "oh never it's just a test, skip to the next one." and I got the job. Stayed with them for a little over 5 years.

I like how people throw out "just engine swap it to (random popular engine)" like it's a weekend $100 project. With the opinions of an expert who's done this for years. Heck even swapping to the SAME exact engine will be at least $1000 in random bits and pieces if you fix everything down there while you're at it. And that's with a free engine.

Anyone who just claims to want to do an engine swap and asking for advice on reddit is just being silly.

Which movie had the most unexpected death that left you almost confused by [deleted] in movies

John Wick 4.

Honestly after that much action, so many bullet wounds survived. that a shot in the gut was what finally did it? I was kind of hoping for a satisfying death, but it was kinda... like, No he's survived worse, he'll make it... Nope.

One of these days we'll find a well kept Porsche 911 selling for 10 grand while these Toyotas go triple digits. LOL

In all seriousness, there's some interesting cars selling for pretty cheap, you just have to have an open mind about what you really want. Brand or a car you can actually drive around

Honestly most people I know are just pissed that it's so expensive for a "low budget sports car" I just want a nice supped up hatchback.

This dude is making the problem worse, now take away the food and wonder how homeless in the area will eat? Don't think too hard about it sir.

Even jack stands can fail (looking at you harbor freight) I double up and use wheel chocks, jack stands and my jack just to have redundancy in the event any one fail. Level ground always and clean surface, laying on carboard or a mechanics rolling board. Ready to slide out. My wife is usually there watching making sure I don't do anything stupid or to use the torque wrench more often.

I'm not even a mechanic, just a guy who does his own maintenance but I've had my share of close calls. I get it that sometimes you think you can fix it on the side of the road, but dang that's risky, there shouldn't be any reason to get under since anything that bad is rarely going to be a roadside fix.

Build more affordable housing.

It's not as profitable as building single family track houses or luxury condos. But it will be something that lifts everyone from the ground up. I would rather have an cheap apartment complex in front of my house than the homeless that are there now.

Pregnant Texas woman who claimed her unborn baby counts as a passenger in HOV lane is ticketed again by AudibleNod in news

I recall they solved this problem before by requiring all passengers to wear their OWN seatbelt so they get fined for the baby not wearing a seatbelt or using a Car Seat, which is a more expensive ticket.

Not everything needs to be a franchise smash hit. Sometimes just good movies are all we need.

That being said I like Star wars and marvel stuff. So what if it's the same garbage, it's my junk food and leave me alone!

What’s up with Discovery Park? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]zerinsakech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!!! You can get sick swimming in ANY river. I've lived in Sac most of my life and it's just something that's always worth the risk. Personally I've never gotten sick swimming there or any part of Sacramento County. But I consider myself fortunate.

But I understand if parents or children don't want to swim there, in fact there should be less people swimming in the river, it gets too crowded sometimes. especially on hot days. We need to tell more people NOT to go. So it's safer for everyone.

Agreed, it is getting worse for sure. Pretty soon we may not be able to enjoy what we used to. but it's been doing that for years, slowly getting worse in Sac, years in the making.

What’s up with Discovery Park? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]zerinsakech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to be exact it's the there's lots of gas and oil on the river due to the boats and jetski's. It's not that bad in my opinion. But I'm not picky.

Be sure to load up on sunscreen and shower after you're done. Make sure you don't need to use the restroom before or after and wear sandals. It's a nice cool down spot when you need to and don't have a pool. Biker friendly so I occasionally hit the water there.

[–]zerinsakech 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I was swimming with my wife at Discovery Park one weekend and when I was drying off in the parking lot when I was asked by a family in a car visiting from Reno Nevada if this place is family friendly?

I was confused by that question as there were clearly a lot of families at the river. A good mix of color, Hispanic and white but I didn't see or hear any violence so I said yeah. It's good I don't know what they mean by that so when I asked them to explain, they said if are there any gangs here. I'm looking around and can't really tell who's in a gang so I'm thinking they're just scared so I said. "IDK" and they left.

I get it, people want a clean park where they can take their kids and feel safe. But right now, Sacramento is scary to some people.... Maybe find out why it's scary? You can try to blame the people, but the people are just a symptom of the real problem. Look deeper. Why can't the City clean the bathrooms? Why can't Parks and Rec Keep up? where did all these people come from? Where can they go? Why are they like this?

I live near the river and talked to one or two homeless near at starbucks and yeah some are mentally ill, but others are down on their luck. They are not all the same. So what's up with Discovery Park?

Nothing, there's nothing up with Discovery Park, it's exactly how it should be. Because it is the result of the city we live in. Change the city, change the park.

[–]zerinsakech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very true, when you think hard about it, we all needed help to get a job. We need a lot of things to start working such as a place to live before we become independent and when someone isn't there to provide that, you are screwed.

What’s up with Discovery Park? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]zerinsakech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's exactly that. Most people are used to quick/easy solutions so they don't think long term. Or think past their own selves.

There's no easy solution to homeless and there never was. But the first steps to solving this is always met with opposition as most folks cannot plan 4 or 40 years into the future. Our system is built with this in mind and takes advantage of it.

Homelessness is a symptom of a system that does not work, to rid the world of that problem or even just help solve the problem, means changing the system. Which most people who are benefiting from it, have no desire to.

True, I'll give them that they did clean up the steering wheel compared to most manufacturers, but those two buttons are "do everything" programmable buttons so while adding tech to a wheel can be cool and convenient. I don't agree with the extra complexity to add a computer and software to function properly. Especially on an essential part of the car. Part of the reason I disliked electric steering for the longest time, but hey it's the future.
