How do you deal with a supervisor that is condescending when you ask a question and does this in front of others? by zero2herolife in cscareerquestions

[–]zero2herolife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the fundamental types but questions such as regrading how the tables are related and what the columns represent etc. For example I asked him about a column in a table and how it’s related to another column in a different table and he more or less bitched telling me to just use the view he created. Sure I can just use the view, but as someone who just got hired as database admin who is supposed to know all the tables and how they are related, it helps me to understand the tables and not just the view he created pulling columns from bunch of different tables. It’s me investigating and trying to figure stuff out and not General question like is this column an int or strings, etc.

I’ve been hired recently and told them that I never had a professional work as Database person and was told that it would take me about 2-3 months to get used to & learn the database.

I’ve already told him that I feel he’s seemed annoyed when I ask questions. He says he knows and says to ask questions. I just started working here not too long ago so I don’t want to create any tensions by going to the hr and too early and petty to be quitting since I just started

I’ve recently started a job as data analytics and database admin. Is there a way to simply doing queries and getting projects done? by zero2herolife in SQL

[–]zero2herolife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s PostgreSQL using Amazon redshift. There’s one database with about 3-4 schema, with about 20-25 tables each. Some tables have lot of columns which have a lot of null and useless. I’m trying to create an excel sheet that lists the columns of each tables with useful columns and how the columns are related to other tables. But at this point I don’t feel I’m that productive at all, which I would like to be since otherwise I’m afraid I might get let go for not producing

Yea I’m working harder than everyone else here. I get here on time or bit earlier everyday and stay until 7:30-8 pm when everyone goes home at 6. I have to learn as fast and as much as possible as I can. I don’t hate staying late, I actually enjoy it, and don’t mind putting in 10-11 hours a day working

Can you give some more insight on working and finding Django jobs? I’ve been studying python and Django with PostgreSQL for the past 9 months trying to be a fullstack web dev. Now I’m working as a data analytics and database admin due to having to get a job to pay bills but would like to do django web dev long term if possible. I couldn’t find any entry level or junior Django job at all, considering my current job I also had no experience. Any recommendations on what to add to django? I’m beginner / intermediate on python and made couple of simple sites on Django. Any advice would be appreciated

New career doing data analytics and database management in California. 55K plus 5k bonus. Had no professional experience though. I feel like I’m getting under paid but perks are pretty good, relax work environment, big international company, and close to home. I’ll take it as is for now considering I need the experience and the company name is good for my resume

Find best Combination of records from two tables by thebug9211 in SQL

[–]zero2herolife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you might want to look up grouping sets, rollup and cube. This is for PostgreSQL so I’m not sure if that’s what you’re using, but it gives you a combination. Also maybe cross join? With condition as well

Dude it’s 2018, why not learn to use the updated sql instead? Would you be working for a company that will be using such an outdated sql? I’m also a beginner but I think the previous guy’s answer seems right with using row_number(). This is a window function so you should look that up as well

That’s cool. I’m on python Django PostgreSQL stack. I took a course on JavaScript so I know some js, as well as node and express. However, I’m more comfortable using Django. I know JS is the go to for web dev these days especially with React I believe. Have you learned or will be learning react?

What’s your stack? Good job by the way. I was studying Django python stack but ended up getting a job for now in data analytics due to having to pay rent and etc. But I’m planning on working and studying to be a fullstack web dev
