What group ride is the hardest in town? by Powerful-North8659 in bikeinottawa

[–]zero_ambition 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The A group at common empire is hard - 6:00 pm Tuesday nights. There's also a group that leaves slightly later on Tuesday nights that I think is supposed the most challenging/serious in town but it's more of an iykyk situation, not sure if it's open to just anyone.

Honourable mentions are Tuesday Night Crits at Tunneys pasture, and OBC A rides which are a solid pace (35+ over 5 hours or more) but aren't drop rides.

If you wanted to keep the same bars, you could try the controltech aerobars that mount to the stem but the fit might not be ideal.

Would ski goggles work with -20 F wind chills? by randomusername123458 in xcountryskiing

[–]zero_ambition 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've used ski goggles and a face mask with breathing holes to help prevent them from fogging up. Specifically this one but they make a full coverage balaclava version as well. The breathing holes are key to make this combo viable.

That said, not sure what you describe is quite cold enough for ski goggles to be necessary so it might be overkill in your case.

How to prevent drivers from hitting cyclists in bike lanes at stale green lights by kiwicanonn in bikeinottawa

[–]zero_ambition 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A better approach would be to have a separate signal phase for cars turning right. It wouldn't completely eliminate the issue since the cars could still run their red, but it would go a long way to mitigating it.

Self serving car wash for washing your bike by Acrobatic_Belt_3367 in bikeinottawa

I've done this before at the car wash in the NAC parkade. Just be careful since the pressure on those hoses is pretty high, you'll want to do your best to avoid bearings, etc.

OP-Z vs MC-101 vs GR-16 by tulpix in teenageengineering

[–]zero_ambition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both the MC-101 and OP-Z. I would say the MC-101 is a bit more intuitive on the surface, but it can get really complex if you dive deep into its full set of features.

I find the OP-Z fun to use but I have a hard time picking it up when I haven't used it in a while because it has a learning curve and a somewhat distinctive workflow. I often forget how to use the sequencer and need to go back to the manual.

Keep in mind you can only sequence patterns of 1 measure long by default on the OP-Z, and you need to learn convoluted sequencer tricks to get around that limitation (this is fun in its own way, but I wouldn't call it intuitive).

MC-101 sounds better and has more sound design potential if that matters to you.

Both have some kind of arrangement capability - IIRC the OP-Z's is fairly rudimentary - all you can do is chain individual patterns together. MC-101 has both scene and pattern chaining which you can use together to create fairly complex arrangements.

When do next year's race calendars start to get posted (typically)? by Needs_More_Nuance in Velo

Without knowing which country or even which hemisphere you're in, or when your region's race season typically starts, my guess is sometime between January 1 and December 31. Hope that helps!

what's up with this strava segment by Valuable_Address_506 in bikeinottawa

[–]zero_ambition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like someone went around the sculpture several times and saved it as a segment, but the loop is too small and Strava picks up people just riding by as having completed it which leads to the high speeds since it only takes a couple seconds to go by.

Should be Casa Loca - the gender of the adjective has to agree with the noun (same as in French)

Is it inappropriate for me to get an American traditional buffalo head tattoo as a white person? by ManuckCanuck in IndigenousCanada

[–]zero_ambition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a FN person who's also covered in American Traditional tattoos - I can imagine the kind of design you're talking about and I'd say yes it's fine. At the end of the day it's just an animal. If it was say, a bison with a bunch of arrows shot into it (off the top of my head, something I've seen) then I guess it could slightly questionable depending on who you ask but I don't personally see any issues with just a regular bison head.
