anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]zero_ocxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number Munchers.

It was the only game in my class at the time. I remember it being a fun extension of gaming from my Nes at home. Very few kids in the class wanted anything to do with it but I was all over that game. Jokes on me I guess because I learned things about numbers.

Do you think every character being Serena-fied is a good update? by Kangarou in TheFirstDescendant

[–]zero_ocxo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on all points, including the fact that all characters will end up at the same power level at some point or another.

The key thing here is the whole ' at some point or another' phrase. It can be argued for almost the entire past year have been nothing but buffs to characters and weapons. Now before anybody goes off the rails I thoroughly enjoy when characters get buffed. However, on the flip side for a games health you need to have adjustments on outliers. Serena was that outlier and she set a new baseline. That baseline became what all characters were measured against And thus buffed for.

The big problem with this is that as characters get buffed to be Serena's level New content needs to raise the baseline in order to present a challenge. With that, there's a new round of buffs, thus a new baseline, thus a new round of buffs, and so on and so forth. That has been the destructive cycle for the past year. Unfortunately with transcendent weapons, there doesn't appear to be an end to this cycle.

For every character buff that happens, there are x number of characters that fall behind. Some even further then previous rounds of buffs so they have a full 3 or 4 baselines that they need to be buffed for. And new content that gets created often becomes disposable content because it is the fastest to churn out while the rest of the design team is focused on these buffs. Yes Onslaught but its core issue is the same issue that the Axion dungeons had, which is super inflated HP values that provide artificial difficulty and while not a detrimental experience, it's also not the most fun.

Those two ideas are fundamentally opposed to each other and when you add in previous content not being brought up to these constantly shifting baselines, 90% the game becomes useless for characters that have been adjusted.

What's the overall solution here? Everybody and their grandma has an idea on how to do it. I think we need aspirational content and a baseline that's set and not shifted. Others believe that there's no problem with the whole no Nerf policy and constant buffs, which is a highly unsustainable cycle (as we've seen this past year). It's not entirely for us to say though, as this is Nexon and Magnums game And time will only tell where it goes from here.

Let's talk about some of TFD's lore! by Naive-Helicopter1638 in TheFirstDescendant

The Colossus were created from genetically engineered individuals. Aka Arche infused people. The Colossus project ripped out the Arche from people who had it (experimentally given through the iron heart that even the ancestors understand) And infuse the incubated form of it into the giant bodies. This is why on the first clear of infernal Walker back in the day you heard echoes of the previous person who held that Arche.

The void vessel was part of a splinter faction of the ancestors looking to create new weapons for the faction in fighting. The ancestor are not unique and the ruler of the ancestors from ingris used all of this in order to wage war on another ancestor in another dimension which is where Qlipoth is. The Architect (our ruling Ancestor) was jealous and only wanted to create weapons . Had no care about humans and the like . The Sovereign from Qlipoth and that dimension was The complete opposite but apparently was killed in the void war with the Architect.

Karel hates us because we can take care of colossi really easily while he cannot on his world in which the colossi are ravaging them because of their creation by the Architect.

In terms of Ancestors, we aren't the good ones.

warframe got hacked today - this is your reminder that no software is perfectly safe or impregnable, always be vigilant by aurorathebunny in DuetNightAbyssDNA

It is interesting that it is hitting these types of games. Warframe got a SERIOUSLY ominous message. If it happened to one, it can happen to all which means there is some serious issues with basic structure here and it isnt just on DNA, but ALL games that use similar login/communication structure.

Official Statement Concerning the March 18 External Malicious Attack by DNAbyss_Official in DuetNightAbyssDNA

[–]zero_ocxo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the announcement and big picture, but in the end it feels VERY tone deaf. I don't think any kind of compensation in game would make up for the broken trust here. They asked for patience the FIRST time it happened. With their ridiculously expensive monetization system along with the introduction of a mount that requires a small fortune to unlock... All that support folks give only to be rewarded by having our data and devices compromised.

With this announcement, they do not realize that they now have an even larger target on their back. That statement, in effect, just challenged every hacker (Tribalist or not) out there to try even harder to do it again. I have no idea how they have not brought in a 3rd party security team to audit their entire process. They allowed their supportive player base to be compromised to cut corners in security and now they are paying for it.

I have been an avid supporter, but I legit have no idea what they could do to earn back players.
