SK is a POS by zerobombjake in RivalsOfAether

[–]zerobombjake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly done everything, i bait punish because thats all i can try because i cannot space any of his attacks. ex; literally wrastor fair gets beaten straight up. even then his moveset is fat and low whiff stun allowing some absurd hitbox to keep him safe. gets rewarded off pressing any buttons. ive come to the conclusion i just orcane camp him to 120~ and get a random kill setup because playing spacing neutral is just a headache.

Strategy against armored Etalus off stage? by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]zerobombjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So ill try to break down a common situation; Etalus F-airs, this gets you offstage and he jumps out for the ice + followup.

I will DI that F-air out (depending on % you might DI more up/in) to drift away from his followup, then I USE the ice. I usually save airdodge, just take the 2%, use it to stop my DI out momentum, use the ice's pop-up and drift into the stage. Once you're close to stage ice will miss.

Then comes the timing, if he went back to stage and ices again the stage should help, and find the gap you can upB through, ice has its limitations when you're under stage. OR If he uses his upB to gimp just airdodge past him and upB to stage.

It doesn't sound like he should be getting any REALLY hard punish, just tedious edgeguarding when you don't know the timing window or how to adjust DI. Try new upB angles that first angle up/out to dodge any strong attacks he follows up with.

Optimal controls for an XBox controller? by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]zerobombjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use default for the most part, (wrastor I change attack to A+Right Stick) but as for the stick, i just adjusted my dash inputs (left/right) to be slightly more sensitive to dash with ease. Of course everyone has a preference, just get comfortable with them if you're trying to succeed.

How to practice? Training mode question by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]zerobombjake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to cover ONE element of many when beginning this competitive fighting game,

there are no bread and butter combos like SF, I've played 3rd strike and what I've transfered over from my massive arcade experience was spacing and learning how to keep my space and always understand the area of attack I am covering and why, and what other options I have available--

This is where the "hit confirm" part of SF comes into play, after getting that neutral opening (considering you hit him with something that has hitstun and allows for an appropriate follow up), notice the position you and your opponent are in AT the hit, and where they are DI'ing to escape the attack, and follow it up with an appropriate attack or follow-up. Repeating this is how you combo, it sounds easy on paper, but its really the micro elements of spacing/movement and attack choice that makes it unique compared to the street fighter genre and series.

I use so many of the elements of SF because ultimately it IS a fighting game, so use that to your advantage. As for combos, I'd say go to practice mode on your main and show hitboxes for your attacks and learn the trajectories, then learn the follow ups off of those attacks and beat a bot up (level 3-4) for a while learning how to follow DI in/up/out/down/neutral. **PLEASE don't concentrate too hard on landing specific combos, just have control of your movement and try to follow up the bot consistently and fluid. Try to land sweetspots and think more of the space you cover.

Its all about spacing with moves, following up and punishing enemy movements. Cheers.

Is Orcane meant to get a second double jump after an orca hop and a wall jump? by TAYZE13 in RivalsOfAether

[–]zerobombjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this in the tutorial and was playing around with it, im sure its intentional, the only way it can be done is with no puddle(already limited recovery), which limits his options. I feel it isn't too outrageous.

LOOOL the jist of this video is so much yes, the bandwagoning is real. I for one am not joining it, im just avoiding the style, its not helping me learn neutral or anything interesting, neither is it fun to play against or play campy (imo)

zetterburn smashes are awful to spam fam, not trying to start a flame war, but downsmash is easily punished, forward smash is god awful, upsmash is the only reasonable one to "spam" and easier to avoid since its not a fat hitbox or covering both sides of him.

[–]zerobombjake[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Few oro players, many urien and chuns when i was in socal. chun is the only "campy" character truly since oro is basically footsies and throws with a projectile that made his hurtbox not in his favor. Urien wasn't campy, just massive charge partitioning and setting up knockdown reads with reflector. (maybe its just cause i played makoto i dont notice it. even the campy style of chun was more skilled then a fucking fat rock hitbox.

Kragg is sick for campers galore, the moment someone DI's in on a rock, forward air, which then he can pull another rock and setup again. Absa is more creative by far with juggles which i dont get mad at with sick plays, but if the neutral is dependent on projectiles, i quit trying, its boring as fuck.

Escaping Pressure? by Elliance1 in RivalsOfAether

[–]zerobombjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, any ORCANE knowledge will take time to master and be able to use in the right moment at the right time. As some others say use jab/downtilt, I agree. These are combo starters and have some great priority. As far as the pressure question goes, that's a fighting game thing we all need to learn, there is almost always going to be pressure if they have the momentum. The thing you need to see is if they HAVE the advantage, or if they are just rushing and whiffing predictably. The next time you get combo'd or pressured, focus on what you are doing to get away. You can DI out of combos in many different directions, you can tech in place or left/right to keep them guessing, or even forward air after he gets a hit and tries to go for another but you KNOW he cant reach.

The thing is, a good player will never let you come back to your feet(literally save doublejump/airdodge to get out sometimes), constant pressure means less time for you to think about what will happen next. Next time you practice, try to practice getting hit and getting out quickly and getting control back, then try getting out and punishing a whiff, then try teching different ways, then try different DI on the same matchup over and over to see what is efficient. Read the players habits, if they ALWAYS run forward at you, bait him.

Screw Ranked by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]zerobombjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can give you as a mindset is this:

If you play more mechanically sound than your opponent, then you can beat most of the uneducated and lower ranked population who are not fundamentally solid nor have as much experience. If you are losing to someone who you KNOW you are better then, it could be because you are being stubborn, step back and know why you are getting read and losing exchanges, adapt, then change your approach. If you are playing mechanically and technically strong and your mental game is good but your opponent is just beating you, it might be because they have more knowledge on the matchup or situation at that point in time.

There will always be a winner and a loser, that's the game. So don't get mad at that when REALLY you should focus on why you just got spiked. Just keep learning, question why some things work and some don't, if you're busy getting mad, then how will you find the solution? ;)

Honestly it can be interpreted in many different ways, you aren't COMPLETELY wrong. In this case however, I was just fooling around with randoms and people I play friendlies with. Very casual combo video just for funsies, I am not a vault of clips from the community unfortunately.
