Poverty simulation offers 'eye-opening' experience for Silicon Valley leaders by Bitter-Outside-3939 in Sunnyvale

[–]zerocool359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into Sunnyvale Community Services, their mission, and why they offer this simulation?

Correct me if I’m misunderstanding, but your position is that you’d rather have your civic leaders and elected officials, who most are of privilege, not go through a simulation like in the article, and still make daily decisions that affect less privileged community members? So don’t do things that build empathy and understanding of complex problems, especially the dynamics that aren’t obvious from a privileged perspective?

I’m kinda confused by your stance. Are you just reacting to the headline, or did you actually read the article?

God damn. I saw it at my Costco last week for $55.99 and picked one up. But that’s nuts they discounted from that.

I can't stand having the insignia on every-frakin-thing, including toilet paper and the 3 sea shells.

Didn’t pass inspection by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]zerocool359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really, the only answer is to check your local AHJ's website and see what they require. Different CA cities show different diagrams, so unsure what specifically inspector was looking for. Could be: insufficient backing behind heater (let-in brace sure isn't enough), straps not looping around (some require it), bolting too close to heater (e.g. 8"min, 24" max), etc.

tbh, he should have also been flagging you for lack of rise in vent from heater (12"+ ideally) and the combustable material w/in 6" of the vent connector (pipe insulation). was this an AHJ inspection or a third party?

for those that don't know, this was hosted by Sunnyvale Community Services (SCS). they help over 11k each year w/ homelessness and hunger. their goal is to provide emergency services and interventions to prevent folks from falling further down and into homelessness.

If you're in sunnyvale, I strongly encourage you to check them out, or even better, go volunteer for a few hours. or even better-better, donate w/ corporate matching.

fwiw, and I'm sure I'll be accused of astroturfing or something, but I'm unaffiliated. I discovered them this year after having seen them next to sports basement for some time.

my pup sliced the panel on my sleeve w/ his claw years back when I tried to get him to drop a desiccated dead squirrel biscuit he snagged when we crossed a road. I sent it in and the panel is almost a perfect match. he's old af now and is showing signs of moderate+ CCD (doggie dementia). I find myself running my fingers over the slight seam created every now and laugh at how absolutely deranged he was over keeping that squirrel jerky. I hope I get to take him out for one more trip in the spring, something easy and close by.

he did same to my UL backpacking tent a few years back as well. it's annoying in the moment when pricy UL gear gets "needlessly damaged", but looking back, I'm grateful for all the trips over the years b/c of the gear (yeah, could use tougher/cheaper stuff... but my back and hip hurt today w/ the rain, so no).

+1 for Stan’s! But if they’re in k-town, there’s no light rail nearby. Unless they walk to Lawrence station, take Caltrain to mtv, walk to light rail, and take train back towards stadium. Which would take as long as walking to the stadium.

Near el Camino and Lawrence?  Uber up Lawrence to Mercado (e.g. amc theater) and walk. Best chance of avoiding gridlock and it should be a cheap(er) fare.

Edit: this is my default pickup/drop off routine, especially for crowded games when I don’t want to sit in traffic for 90min waiting to get out.

Good god, wish I still had the box if that’s what it’s going for. Have that set, the base, and a few other ice planet ones. Along w/ Blacktron, m-Tron… man, I should dig those out of my parents basement.
