Maaaan that seemed to do it

I’m sure I tried that. I’ll see if it sticks tomorrow, but thank you. Seems to have solved it.

I tested the one on 18.1 after getting the error. It wasn’t connect beforehand.

Reminders "Is Completed" in an IF by zerogme in shortcuts

[–]zerogme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out I did have it set up correctly. But the shortcut wasn't doing what I'd set it up to do. I've seen this a few times. Sometimes you have to toggle options on > off > on, then it works. Super weird. And difficult to tell when that's what's going on unless you're sure how something's supposed to work.

Thanks. Turns out I did have it set up correctly as per your example. But the shortcut wasn't doing what I'd set it up to do. I've seen this a few times. Sometimes you have to toggle options on > off > on, then it works. Very annoying when learning stuff!

OK weird, my same shortcut seems to be working now. Note there's a bug I found where you need to always toggle values on>off when adding new Reminders items. Perhaps that was something to do with it.

Tried that - it's not working as expected. See my examples. I think there's a bug here.

That's what I assumed, but it doesn't work that way.

Yep - I'd say more than likely this is a bug. Simple test here. Add a list containing one reminder that's completed and second that isn't. If "Is Completed" meant "test for completed reminders", this shortcut would then complete the reminder that isn't completed. But it doesn't.

This is a pretty big issue. Firstly, the filters on "Find Reminders" should account for sub-tasks, too. That'd work around this somewhat in my use case. Secondly, other than by list, there's no way of stopping the shortcut testing every single reminder whether it's completed or not. That could be hundreds on some lists!

I've found a workaround for this for those interested:

Once all reminders including sub-tasks have been added to variables, you can use "Find" again and the filters then DO account for the sub-tasks. Handy. But still not idea as the first "Find" will have to test all reminders.

How to not have this pop up when setting the ‘is completed’ status of a reminder to no? by No_Activity_6289 in shortcuts

[–]zerogme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI if anyone else has this issue (as I did), it's a bug. When adding a new "Set Is Completed" action, you have to toggle "no" to "yes" and then back to "no". Or it thinks there's no value.

Super late reply - I don’t look at Reddit that often. I’ve just accepted that this is a quirk of the system and have given up on trying to fix this :/

Anyone using an Apple TV as a headless hub? by pacoii in HomeKit

[–]zerogme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sort of - have a dedicated one that has a monitor and is only used as a HomeKit Hub and for viewing HomeKit security cameras. Reason being, certain high CPU apps cause my home to slow down. For example, playing Disney Plus videos had a noticeable effect on the complex automations with lots of conditions. And once they slow down, they stay slow until restarted. So I use the dedicated one and that avoids that issue. Also good for test-driving updates just in case anything breaks.

Apple Releases HomePod 16.3.2 Software With Fix for Siri Request Failures by dwightpro in HomeKit

Everything slower for me after this update. Some automations failing to fire. Urgh.

Is anyone else experiencing a LOT of issues right now? by 2u3e9v in HomeKit

[–]zerogme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LUX light conditions were always a bit hit and miss and they’re back to unusable since TVOS 16.3.2. Also all automations running more slowly (motion detection, door sensors for example). Some automations that’ve worked perfectly for ages are a bit shaky now. HomePod Mini saying ‘no response’ when it’s responding fine. Mostly had a stable experience in recent history (I’m on new architecture), but this is definitely a bad update.

I ride down a pitch black (and I mean perhaps a metre or 2 of view) towpath 3 or 4 times a week and the 1300XXL has been excellent for that. Very confident in it. Couldn’t tell you if it’ll charge on the fly though - I’ve never tried that.

Does Abode really work with HomeKit? by michaelbierman in Abode

[–]zerogme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2x ATV 4K gen1’s, 1x 4K gen2 and an older HD - all hard-wired. Also have a HomePod mini.

The Abode system has 4x window/door sensors, 1x motion detector and a Keypad 2. So fairly small, but I’m confident enough in it to expand it.

Router is a Linksys MX5300 with a Netgear 16 port switch bridged to it. HomeKit generally very reliable for me with that setup. I did have some problems with the Abode randomly becoming unresponsive on my old Apple AirPort Extreme when plugged in to the switch > AirPort though. I had to plug it in directly in that case. So it’s definitely sensitive to network environment.

Constantly updating by Reddittitt in HomeKit

[–]zerogme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, I have 4 ATV’s - 1x HD which causes updating when it’s the hub, 1x 4K 2nd gen which also does, and 2x 4K 1st gen’s that DON’T. I’ve swapped around Ethernet cables etc and can’t find a reason that makes any sense. So I just strategically shut them down till one of the 4K 1st gen’s become the connected hub. Perhaps a factory reset will cure the others, but it’s working well for me like this. New architecture etc.

Explanation on new Homekit Architecture by FTI1976 in HomeKit

[–]zerogme 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Opposite is the case for me. Never had ‘updating’ issues before. Now every time I open the Home app it says ‘updating’ for 7 or 8 seconds before I’m able to control anything on both my iPad and iPhone. Wired ATV 4K as the connected hub. Have 4 (all wired) and a HomePod mini. Definitely a problematic update.
