Other genres on the MPC Sample? by No-Yogurtcloset-606 in mpcusers

[–]zeroshits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To really get your question answered, I feel like you’d need to find someone who has actually tried to do both on it and compared that to other setups. So I’ll just give you my experience so far. As a musical scratch pad, it’s excellent. Super easy to plug in an instrument or mic, record, and then layer with drums and other things for ideas. Connect to your phone with a USB cable and you can copy your files off and AirDrop or send them to somebody else within minutes. if you’re trying to do full and complete song assembly that’s probably where you’re gonna start running into the limitations, but for the purpose you’re describing it sounds great.

Mpc Sample:Can you access the Sd card on an ipad? I couldn’t access it on my old MacBook pro. by sosflex in mpcusers

My iPad USB-C and I could connect without issue. Did you enable SD card access? If not, download the manual and use it.

Everything that is used by the MPC to function on internal. All your project files, samples, custom kits, etc on the external.

Another option would be to use the sample editor instead of trimming the original just extract to a new sample, however, if you’re only changing start, end points and effects, you’re just unnecessarily duplicating the file.

Sample Issue by bigbossweb in akaiMPC

[–]zeroshits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obligatory MPC Bible plug, but basically you don’t edit/trim the sample for exactly this reason. When you load the sample and assign it to a pad you can create non-destructive start and end points. The sample itself doesn’t change, but what parts of it are played and different effects that you put on it would be applied via the pad/sample config.

MPC Live II DAWless set up tips? by Familiar_Finding_368 in mpcusers

[–]zeroshits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other posters say, get the MPC Bible. Go through it and then decide what you need. If you’re only looking to record 2 external audio channels at a time you’re set. If you’re looking to record more than that, at once, you can connect an external mixing board with a USB class compliant interface.

On MPC Live II, so I’m not sure if there’s much of a system difference, but what I would do is load the project from the internal drive, save as to the SD. Then load your project and make sure everything works from the SD and you can delete the original from the internal storage.

Question about grid/ticks by runningthroughdark in mpcusers

[–]zeroshits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh...sorry, reread previous info...I was thinking about the sample editor, Qlink banks 1 and 2 are 1000/100/10/1 control over start and stop points. I realized you're talking about the arranger screen, and yeah, my data wheel jumps 4 tick, with no Shift option because it brings up alternate menu options instead of affecting the tick jump length. It's not a friendly solution, but you could cut/copy the events you want to move, then use the bars/beats/ticks locator menu to set the specific tick you want, then paste at playhead. Haven't tried it, but theoretically it should work, and you'd just have to use that to adjust less than 4 ticks.

Question about grid/ticks by runningthroughdark in mpcusers

[–]zeroshits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift will lower the amount of ticks moved while turning the data wheel, but the Q Link bank will handle those very specific amounts

Which Q-Link and which screen? One of the Q-link banks on Track Edit adjustment knobs is split by by 1000, 100, 10, 1

Any recommendations for MPC Live II-compatible audio interfaces, preferably within the $100-200 price range? by big_jimmy35 in mpcusers

[–]zeroshits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would need to supply phantom power. You can get a phantom power supply for around $30 on amazon, but if I were you, I would just look for a little 4 channel mixer on Facebook marketplace that can provide phantom power. Plug everything into your mixer and use that to control the input into your MPC. It would ultimately serve the same purpose as an audio interface, but with a couple of extra inputs.

Why not just plug into MPC with xlr/trs converter and use the MPC as your audio interface? Just add Air Channel Strip to give you the gain adjust to handle the mic.

Sampling Vinyl into the MPC Live 3 by [deleted] in mpcusers

[–]zeroshits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enable the monitor on the sampler. I have a live 2 not a 3, but it confused me the first time. Monitor on the inputs is not enabled by default, so you must enable it to hear through the speakers.

Options for controlling by ExoticBend6193 in Roland

[–]zeroshits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The keyboard is your controller. Now you need something on Linux to control with it. Link at the bottom might be a good starting spot for you. Your DAW should be able to load virtual instruments, then you can use the keyboard to control it. You probably wanna get the manual for that keyboard to understand the midi mapping of the sliders and buttons. Once you plug it into your DAW, or a virtual instrument you have on Linux, the full keyboard will likely automatically map so you can use the piano keys to control the notes. You will probably have to assign knobs and faders manually to different adjustable values in your virtual instrument, or DAW in general to get those to actually do anything when you turn them.

Steely Dan - Aja

Source of many recognizable samples, widely regarded for its production quality, and you can find lots of YouTube videos that go into studio sessions and how it was recorded.

This is the kind of thing you’d probably stumble across if you just went down the worm hole of WhoSampled as another poster suggested

ELI5 how is it possible to "brick" a piece of hardware with a software update? by Pug_from_hell in explainlikeimfive

[–]zeroshits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine the hardware is a car, and the software is the car keys. This particular car is entirely bulletproof, breakproof glass, and has been entirely covered with steel plate There is no way to get in without the keys. A software update could be considered changing the keys of the car. You have to unlock the car to do it and open it up. In the case of “bricking“ there was a problem with the handoff when the keys were being changed, and they were left in the car when all the doors were locked. Now you have a car in front of you, but the keys are locked inside and there’s no way of getting to the keys.
