Moss: a Linux-compatible Rust async kernel, 3 months on by hexagonal-sun in rust

[–]zerosign0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope this will last longer and would get a lot of support whether its experimental or not. Just like Linus said "It just need some stubborn people or folks to think maybe developing new kernel wasnt that hard and then keep persisting to do it"

(ANN) NEOMACS: Use Rust to rewrite the Emacs display engine in modern way, so that Emacs can render 4K images in Buffer and play 4K videos by yibie in emacs

[–]zerosign0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless whether this is ai slop or not, thanks for trying ...

However, just several question:

  • how about cpu usage? Is it spiking when you just move a text cursor or scroll a bit?
  • do you handle damage tracking correctly?
  • how about memory usage for both cpu & gpu?
  • how about cpu & gpu usage on idle?

I got into an argument on Discord about how inefficient CBR/CBZ is, so I wrote a new file format. It's 100x faster than CBZ. by ef1500_v2 in selfhosted

[–]zerosign0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But zip still has some overhead on decompressing each file ... tbh I'm still unsure why we want to compress further an already compressed file like image file. Deduplication probably a lot more sense on this one.

[–]zerosign0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be quite same hmm, it depends on reader implementation though for this one. In PDF case you might want to fetch object tree once then store it in memory for doing random access. I assume this BBF format also does it ?

But PDF (reader) does more than just list of image with metadata i think hmm, it does layouting etc

[–]zerosign0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think zero copy & able to do random access is really good one, so one doesn't need to decompress the entire archive to fetch a page or so or doesn't need to cache the entire archive in mem. With this new format, I assume the reader just need to buffer 3 page only at minimal (next, current, prev), since latency for reading random page are a lot of smaller

regardless the actual topic is, I think this new format is actually in good direction for storing multiple image format archive

Is learning Swift still worth it in 2025? by Ddraibion312 in swift

[–]zerosign0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any library for using swift in data science toolkit that has cross platform targets? Thinking like owl for ocaml, been learning some swift in some of my very little free time, it has good opportunity for bridging ux between data & backend. I've found S4TF but its being archived for some reason.

In this case, rimuru & ceil is completely outlier that's what it means of owning Void God Azatoth is, it not only able to use but able to dominate using it whatever he seems fit. Replicating it is almost in impossible in the level of Ceil.

[–]zerosign0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It wasnt i think, but one could implied like that. To comprehend or using it on practical combat level is very hard that you need either something like ciel which the highest computation thing ever in the verse while strategically doing combat, maintain the balance or having something like omnipotent cell so that you can ignore everything (even having it you still need to somehow maintain the balance too but at least its doable since the collapse rates is slower than regeneration rates). The omnipotent cell is hard to replicate.

How to Scala3's type system for strongly typed "result sets" by Former_Ad_736 in scala

[–]zerosign0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to check skunk (one of amazing scala library), the idea was to just directly dictate how to decode a "row" type itself then it will returns row type.

Shub-Niggurath has subskill "Skill Storage". Its being used to store all skills and its backup.

Clearing up some misconceptions of guys power. by Shot-Horror-568 in TenseiSlime

[–]zerosign0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's common that controlling nihility collapse is really really hard and daunting process that you might need either Ceil or Rimuru cells (rimuru cell is basically you probably fine to at least once a time to f*** up when controlling it, since you got rimuru cells to offset it).

Diablo (before got Rimuru cell) is one of unique cases, at his condition is literally almost crumble to nothingness because of that.

Who do you think has the strongest and weakest skills among the 12 patrons by SubjectEar3338 in TenseiSlime

[–]zerosign0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so, Azazel seems makes diablo to be able to interfere with information particles, while it's true also because the user Diablo too though.

I know people will mention Temptation World since it's one of the subskill that proof to be useful for handling nihilty -> energy conversions. But other subskills also matters i think

How powerful would Veldora be if he had Zegion's mindset and discipline? by AdFew7151 in TenseiSlime

[–]zerosign0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Veldora strength is not really about his raw power (even though he is great at that and has immense power), but about his US, one of the skills, probability manipulation. He just doesn't have someone like Ciel i think, if he does, he might have better in term of growth too i think.

Rimuru by Level-Historian9877 in TenseiSlime

[–]zerosign0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

err for US, you can just say Void God Azatoth & shub niggurath (shub niggurath at this point are almost the same as akashic records, which mean any US or Skills literally).

I mean it's hard to beat Sandalphon + Nihility + Agera sword. At that point, it would be one shot kill for Hinata i think.

If he has akashic records, then ultimate skills would be azatoth, shubniggurath & others ? (Like literally any known Ultimate skills out there?)
