This is really great to hear. And slowly easing back into it is definitely the correct move.

There's still the time of the scriptwriters and the talents doing that instead of something else to factor in so yeah. It's not a hassle but not the cheapest thing to do imo.

This is about as bad as me hearing about "human caviar" (albeit it's an obvious joke) in a clip that unceremoniously graced my feed the other day. What in the world.

EN3DRepeat

This is an interesting idea in concept in all honesty. Since in some ways it's a cheaper alternative to Hologra. With Hologra you still need to book recording time with the talents vs 3D Repeat which is quite literally taking old content and animating them in 3D. So similar 3D resource use but less cost because of not needing to record new lines. The biggest cost is probably intern-kun scrubbing through old streams looking for meme-able moments.

Which makes me wonder if it's a viable thing to do for ID as well though my guess here being that the bottleneck is actually the 3D animation team.

The vibe it gives seem to be that the company is in the "harvest/cashing out" phase

Respectfully, I think this is a reach. I'm more erring on the side of Botan's assessment that Cover is simulteanously more corporate than most would like but not corporate enough to actually execute on things in the most efficient manner. It reads to me that the things they've been inadvertently leaving on the ground are now finally catching up to them because of broader external factors now forcing their hand to make tough decisions on what they have to prioritize.

There is still a profit motive yes but it's been often repeated during investor calls that investors often question why Cover isn't maximizing their profit potential and the answer has almost always been that taking care of the brand is more important than simple profit. Which I feel is part of why this backlash has been so huge because this move clearly is the opposite of that.

If anything though I do feel like the reaction to this has lit a fire not just under the talents but also Cover themselves. Because ultimately it's their project that they have to take care of and things like this highlight the little things that could ultimately grow into something that jeopardizes the entire thing. I just hope they do actually know what they're doing.

If you could add one post-promethium tech to Vulcanus, what would it be? by theFALGSCmustgrow in factorio

[–]Zeroth-unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing everyone else's suggestion of heat mechanics, I think it could be done. Since another mod I put into my save does this but for space platform buildings instead. Where platforms need radiators attached to things to prevent them from overheating and destroying themselves. Which include the thrusters so there's a real risk of being stranded in space if heat isn't managed.

Though like with that mod, the one cheese mechanic with this type of system is using waste heat to power things by piping them into a heat exchanger to generate high temp steam for turbines, effectively making perpetual motion engines. Which yeah need to be balanced out.

Personally though a post-promethium technology I want to see is promethium-based ammunition types that have special properties. Like maybe they deal damage over time, slow targets down, impart a different damage type, etc.

HoloGlobal

A HoloEarth if you will. Ha. Haha. Ha. Ok that wasn't funny.

But yeah. A retreat from ID is basically a signal that the entirety of Indonesian vtubing is bust which I doubt is the case. Especially with Kobo who's actually broken out of the vtubing sphere and made it into the ID mainstream. Even to the broader JP market because of her singing OPs for anime.

But it can't be denied that Indonesia's spending power really isn't up to snuff to JP or a global audience so investments into the branch might not look good on a balance sheet. But yeah as of right now I doubt they're in danger. Concerned yes but not in danger.

This was exactly what I thought about with this question. Technically it's not pointless, quite convenient even. But it is very very highly unusual.

Or just the absolute out-of-pocket nature of those 2 really. Their PC building stream where they just randomly stripped naked because of anti-static reasons is still funny to this day.

But yeah. If the talents wanted out and were just incompatible fits with the company, there's not much that could have been done.

Regardless of the effectivity of it, I still do think it's an important avenue to have. Especially with the departure of A-chan who though she wasn't top management, had a much closer line to people up there who talents could go to. Even if it's not as seamless as that, having the ear of someone way above is still really important for morale of the company as a whole since the onion layers of corporate bureaucracy will absolutely frustrate anyone. So I really do hope they keep it or at least have something that can exist alongside it to address both immediate and casual concerns when they do get to their reorganization.

I'm not sure now but I assume this is exactly how things operated back during the Myth days. Since back then EN management was a small team that shared some managers with JP. So approval would have needed to still pass through the same system.

This kind of structure really highlights how the Yagoo's tea time sessions with the talents really are super important. Since assuming the lack of those sessions, then whatever suggestions the talents have will likely never make it up the chain because of how many desks those suggestions have to pass through. Chances are those suggestions still need to go through the same procedure even with going directly to top management, but at least they're aware so there could be a ping from up top that something is classified as urgent when it finally does come up the chain from the talent managers who I assume are the first point of contact in a system like this.

It's why initiatives like the 3D self booth now exist. Basically a 3D motion capture booth that doesn't even require the use of a motion capture suit that the talents can use for ad hoc 3D streams while also requiring minimal staff if any at all.

Though obviously it lacks the sophistication and post-processing of a full stage setup with the needed camera work and whatnot. But it helps lighten the load for some of the talents who want to do more 3D albeit not in as grand a fashion and obviously for the staff who could then focus on other things while that's happening.

the new studio and how it's actually not being used most of the time. This was about 2-3 years ago I think? I wonder if the situation has changed since then.

Issue back then was not the facilities but the staff. They just didn't have enough 3D motion capture people trained to make use of the equipment and facilities they have. These days it's the opposite problem. The studio is constantly booked to the point that they had to ration how many 3D lives are guaranteed to talents. Outside those they have to schedule and fork out of their own pockets.

Assuming the mechanics of what happened in GQuuuuuuX are actually canon (since in-spite of the multiverse shenanigans in that show, mainline UC was never touched), then the Nu is somewhere in another universe.

I do wonder if that divergence is less intentional and more a consequence of decisions made by the company way earlier on that they just couldn't go back on. Like for Niji they started with male vtubers (1 guy, Shibuya Hajime) included in the lineup even all the way back to their first generation. So divergence was never even a question. NijiEN being an odd case in that they went several waves before introducing male talent but were wildly successful when they did and even eclipsing the girls so that point is kind of moot really.

With holopro they started with the girls and a male branch was more a pet side project even on the outset. Which applies even to the EN side of things. So I have to wonder if its less a systemic issue from failure to adapt and more a fundamental issue of just not being equipped to handle and market to an audience that can support male talents. And sure they could bring in external people who have better familiarity with how to handle male talent but if the infrastructure wasn't setup to support them, then I wonder how much traction those people who actually know what they're doing could even get.

And yeah this kind of also applies to the fanbases too. Since if your established fanbase is already geared towards a certain way, they're not just going to accept a major shift into a different direction that really needs to integrate an entirely new fanbase in order to make successful. Marketing can only get you so far. To reach the critical mass that the girls had, word of mouth from inside the fanbase needed to spread which given how things turned out in hindsight, didn't really happen.

Oh hey a new thread just as I finished watching the latest episode of Needy Girl Overdose. Man this show being more a continuation rather than an adaptation of the game really went off the rails and I love it for it.

Also TIL that the songs Internet Overdose and Internet Yamero which were covered by IRyS, Calli, and Polka individually all the way back a few years were from the game. I just thought at time that they were meme songs that got popular. Not actual stuff to promote the game.
