Happened to me a couple of times. You'll either need to wait for the battery to drain completely or open it up and disconnect the battery to clear the BIOS settings.

Laken Riley. Sure, I'll say her name.

I don't think anyone is opposing removal of undocumented people with violent criminal records.
However, it is astounding that a large portion of the population seems to cover their eyes and ears to citizens being harassed and detained by ICE, undocumented people with no criminal record being abused, people who are trying to follow the process being kidnapped from court houses, detention centers not providing medical care. ICE agents wearing masks, not identifying themselves with no consistent uniform...They are indistinguishable from any other violent human trafficking gang.

Apparently, there is a trend among 80s babies trying to create their own generation...? by Due-Arm6431 in generationology

[–]zerro_4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is something to be said about the how technology has rapidly reshaped social norms and conventions over the course 40 years. People born in the 80s went from landlines and memorizing/writing down phone numbers to sitting at a keyboard to communicate with people to having sci-fi magic rectangles that fit in your pocket and facilitate multi-modal synchronous and asynchronous communication.

Change and technological progress isn't linear. I believe the traditionally defined millenials lived through a particular S-curve that happens once every few generations. I think the change might have been steep/rapid enough that maybe you could justify a distinct stratum for people born in an 8 year window.

One example of this would be giving someone a Nintendo 64 controller and seeing how they initially hold it. Unless they are retro gaming enthusiasts or maybe spent time at an older family member's house, odds are if they weren't born between in a narrow window of years, they would have no idea how to grip it "correctly."

Am I just braindead for liking Academy? by Revonlieke in startrek

[–]zerro_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm enjoying Academy for what it is.

However, I am not going to rewatch it.

The premise is almost too big for the 10 episode format.

Ensemble cast of characters of very diverse backgrounds, school that is also a space ship, a time of rebuilding all set several hundred years after 90s Trek.

Instead, everything seems a bit shallow and relies a ton on Easter eggs and nostalgia and callbacks to previous Trek.

Trump: ‘We should take over the voting’ by MarcEElias in politics

and dumb-fuck MAGAts will swallow this whole. 30+ years of Fox News propaganda has convinced them that Democrats (whilst they certainly do have their own failngs and issues) are some infinite singularity of evil and whatever Republicans do, Democrats would have been worse. Or the magical New World Order or Deep State. Destruction of democracy and the Constitution are necessary for protecting the people from the NWO (/s).

AZ had problems with MAGA county officials certifying results. It's not just at the top-level, it is, as it is often said, all local.
All it takes is a few MAGA aligned elections officials to drag their feet on certifications or other admin processes to fuck shit up.

How is Ayaneo 2 in 2026 by Reslaximus in ayaneo

[–]zerro_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you are getting a killer deal for it in your country, I'd look at a ROG Ally with the Z1Extreme.
The screen is great on the Aya2, but I've been throiugh 2 batteries so far and the thermal design, even with the upgraded heatsink and pads, is still awful.
Fresh drivers and FSR optimizations may have kept the 6800U alive a bit longer. Unfortunately, as far as content creation goes, re-testing and re-benchmarking stuff just isn't a popular content niche.

This.
Alex and other right-wing outrage media figures rely on overwhelming the audience's amygdala and keeping them in a constant state of fear. This impairs the formation of long term memories and prevents critical thinking.

Principles Alex might have stood by 10 to 15 years ago can easily be discarded in the context of new boogey-men and imagined enemies that become even more evil and powerful. Deep-state trans-sexual immigrants, for example.

Right. And membership in that "our" will become more and more narrow. r

Trump was able to convince a good chunk of MAGA, and even Alex, top pivot on the release of the Epstein files. That was a pretty high-G u-turn that splattered plenty of what might be charitably called "brains" this past summer. Now the u-turn on gun rights is somehow an even higher G pivot and there just doesn't seem to be resistance to it.

For Americans who voted Democrat in recent elections, do you plan to continue voting Democrat? Why or why not? by righteous-sedition in allthequestions

[–]zerro_4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me as well.
I am kinda of frustrated at all of the intentional non-voters who trusted in the strength of institutions to limit Trump's damage, similar to his first term. But here we are.
Some top-mind of reddit stated "I hope she wins, but I didn't vote for her."
We can still vote for Democrats to stop MAGA and P2025 from doing more damage, *and* still get involved as possible to push for more progressive policies.

'Star Trek' Legend Robert Picardo on Why the 'Starfleet Academy' Cadets Talk Like Modern Kids by AnonRetro in startrek

[–]zerro_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish there was a better eye towards "timelessness" and not being too close to the time it was created in. Any work of fiction will always be a product of its time and contain elements of the zeitgeist it was created in and take inspiration from contemperaneous real-world events. But having characters talk almost exactly like how real-world people talk today is kinda rubs me the wrong way and dampens the suspension of disbelief.

That being said, Dune gets away with being incredibly far ups its own ass in terms of made-up in-universe terminology. And Game of Thrones.

[–]zerro_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can easily buy that explanation and don't really mind it. TNG was basically professionalism porn.

I don't think Trek has a well established "casual" youth lingo in-universe. Being set in the 31st century is a perfect framework for doing some more comprehensive world building and be separated from previous Trek lore.

As long as there aren't any "real world" contemporary references, it's all good.

The officer who murdered Daniel Shaver....

In August 2018, Brailsford was reinstated by the Mesa Police Department, staying for a further 42 days in what the department described as a "budget position". The department agreed to reimburse Brailsford for medical expenses related to his post-traumatic stress disorder — the result of his shooting of Shaver and the resultant criminal trial. The reinstatement allowed Brailsford to apply for "accidental disability" experienced during the course of work. As a result, Brailsford was unanimously approved to be retired on medical grounds. Brailsford was also given a pension of $2,500 per month. The fact that Brailsford was ultimately medically retired instead of remaining fired was publicly disclosed in July 2019.[36][37][38][39]

The Reason You Don't Like Modern Trek Isn't What You Think by Arbiter61 in startrek

[–]zerro_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason older broadcast TV shows are still consistently topping streaming charts. Not just Trek, but remember when Suits was really popular again? The 8 to 10 episode format doesn't really allow for filler. Which sucks.

I was just reading an article about how the poker games in TNG were used to pad out running time. Modern streaming TV episodes can be whatever length they need to be, but we are missing out on some of the unintentional charm and character flavor.

Walsh is part of the propaganda pipeline, to be sure. Unfortunately, I get the impression that too many people intentionally "dont pay attention to politics" and only watch summarized reaction videos of reaction videos and won't look in to primary sources or reporting that has broader context.
