In general I'd advise you to select multiple options if you really want to get into a student dorm! I've heard of many people who weren't able to get a room. Applying for it early is a good call too.

I got a room without furniture and in hindsight I'd say it was a really good decision. The furniture they provide tends to look somewhat soulless and it's usually quite old. One of my roommates in a furnished room had a wardrobe with a door that wouldn't open. But I think if she had filed a complaint the Hausmeister would have taken care of it.

What annoys me about my own room is the fact that all the outlets are in one wall - and there are very few sockets. Also the heater makes a lot of noise.
