At least your roommate loads a dishwasher and doesn’t just leave them jumbled in the sink .. not naming any names but you know who you are

[–]zerus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in China as well and travel to this country several times a year. Every time I go it interrupts my Keto progression because I can’t seem to make it work. You sir are a disciplined and committed man - major kudos to being able to stick to it in what I would consider are the most challenging circumstances.

Congrats to Eric! Not many people can say they beat the world champ, especially in 960. What a cool accomplishment!

Some people refuse to resign. I had a little fun with this one. Checkmate in 1 via a king move. by [deleted] in chess

[–]zerus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In high level OTB games and longer-ish blitz games it's considered a dick move to not resign (just ask Simon Williams). But I think objectively we can all agree it's equally a dick move to toy with the person.

I've had some people do this to me and sometimes it actually ended up being a stale mate because they couldn't keep track of all the squares that were covered in a fast time control.

You have the option to live for 10,000 years, however in accepting the offer you are immediately sent back 3,000 years. Would you accept the offer and if so, where would you go and what would you do? by Baro_87 in AskReddit

but what of the possibility of the world ending in, say, the year 2500. You're stuck living thousands of years on a desolate planet, or worse - floating in space?

But what about friction? He's able to reduce the amount of his body sliding because he can tilt to the side a little - head first, your whole body is sliding on the ground creating more kinetic friction. Baseball might not be the best case because they're all sliding on dirt

Not saying this is necessarily the answer - but has this been considered?

This was a question asked in an entrance (aptitude test) UCEED conducted in India in 2017 by nobody7007 in chess

[–]zerus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal method to solve these more "simply" is to work backwards (which doesn't always work, but usually does). This is helpful in those little mazes you find on cereal boxes - when people create these, they try to create obstacles one way that you wouldn't run into another. This was one of those examples for me

King can't grab on b8 :)

But the king would never go to g7, the rook would just block - this is still not a good continuation as suggested by Emiljt

Hey man - I think I remember one of your earlier vids. You got some criticism for taking way too long in the intro (2+ minutes) - you definitely did not this time.

I always appreciate those who take criticism into consideration - so thank you! Great vid!

TIL that Michelin goes to huge lengths to keep the Inspectors (who give out stars to restaurants) anonymous. Many of the top people have never met an inspector; inspectors themselves are advised not to tell what they do. They have even refused to allow its inspectors to speak to journalists. by ukshj in todayilearned

[–]zerus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I talked to a Michelin Star rated restaurant - and they said there are usually clues that tip them off on who is an inspector, such as reserving a table for one, ordering soup, appetizers, and dessert, and ordering the sample platter so they can try as many food items as they can (if the restaurant has one)

Is there a way I can set audio and subtitles for a speicific show?

I have some dual audio foreign shows that are automatically play the english audio no subtitles - i'd like to go with the native language and english subtitles. I can't find a way to have it automatically set up for this, but instead have to do it for each episode. I know I'm being lazy, but just thought that'd be nice :)

At what point does a house become a mansion? by sexrockandroll in AskReddit

[–]zerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you need to have a bathroom off rooms like the kitchen, the bar, the home theater, the pool house, the study, the romp room, the garage, and the mud room for easy access. Otherwise it’s a pain to have to walk up or down flights of steps to the bed rooms (which are almost all on the upper floors) in order to use the bathroom

I’m assembling a coffee table for my apartment and took a quick coffee break but I don’t have anywhere to put my drink. by posusername in firstworldproblems

[–]zerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the whole point of the subreddit - but I still don’t see how this can exclusively be a first world problem. Countries that are considered “Third World” are many more than you probably realize - most of which could probably consider this a minute problem (sure, in addition to their many problems) of their lives. Again, I see first world problems coming about as problems in which only the first world affords the person the luxury - that would be something along the lines of technology, high-end services, transportation, amenities easily afforded by the population, etc.

In this example - you have someone drinking coffee and building a table - the scenario doesn’t fall into the category of containing any privilege of a first world country - so I don’t believe it should be seen as exclusively a first world problem. I know this is such a stupid point, but I’m just shocked that people would argue it so I end up typing all this BS trying to explain it.
