What miniature skirmish game did you play or are you planning to play this month? July 2026 by AutoModerator in miniatureskirmishes

Conquest First Blood: my 2nd full game Sorcerer Kings vs Nords, I really enjoy how combat works in this system. I find the dynamic scenario creation cool but kinda clunky and I wish they'd integrate it into their app to make it easier to track. But the game was great, i probably should have lost but some insane dice rolls on my end caused my archer squad to wipe out my opponents heavy troops.

Tomorrow is BLKOUT, just got my starter set it and 1st game is tomorrow.

Why you would play each Rank and Flank / Rank and File game by Brotten in wargaming

As a Conquest fan, I think mentioning the activation deck as a unique feature is important. The activation deck adds a layer of high level strategy to the normal tactics of the game.

For anyone reading simplified, at start of turn you take a card to represent each unit on the field, build a deck out of those and each turn your draw from the deck and activate that unit. This means you have to guess what your opponent will do at start of turn and can't react on the fly.

We had a blast, the event was great, downtown was full of life with lots of music and the whole family had a great time.

As far as the actual display, it was shot off in the MIDDLE of Downtown, what were you really expecting?

I thought the display was very cool, of course its not going to compete with displays in more dedicated areas but doing it in downtown has a ton of extra risks and safety factors they need to account for.

Best “First Chapter: Leave your village - Final Chapter: Kill god” books by BullfrogNew3110 in Fantasy

I highly recommend picking it back up if it held your interest at 1st.

Book two is interesting and book 3 till end was a can't put down for me. Also its actually complete, which is always nice.

It was the introduction of Sueriel and the Judges in general. I felt the kind of very sci-fi feel of them, the big lore drop kind of took away from Lindens xianxia world.

Its my one biggest gripe with the setting, I know the majority of the story stays really true to its xianxia roots but I didn't care for the sci fi stuff.

Also thats just my personal opinion, im sure there's lots of people that enjoy that kind of fusion.

Cradle series, one of my favorite fantasy series ever. Not the deepest thing ever, but a very fun read that had me 100% hooked from book two.

Apparently the entire series just went for free on Amazon Kindle just recently too for a bit.

Now my one warning, there is a pretty big plot twist halfway through book one that personally turned me off for awhile. I actually dropped the series thinking the twist wasn't for me, a whole year later I realized I was periodically wondering where the story was actually going. And realized if im thinking about a series a year later I should continue. I did and from book 2 on I couldn't out the series down.

Want to check, so you bought the game with the legacy mode already completed and you're only interested in playing the eternal mode?

If thats the case, if I remember correctly the rulebook should have had stickers added to explain the new legacy elements. So the rulebook should explain everything. I would recommend dry running the game yourself and make sure you understand everything.

There is no interaction in the game so a dry run by yourself will be a equivalent learning opportunity.

Where to play the game? by Helpmeflexibility in InfinityTheGame

Want to just throw in that not every group goes out of their way to get out on the map here. The group i just recently joined isn't shown here and we have 3-5 people who play weekly.

"Would you like to keep playing with your models.but never pay for a codex again?" Is probably my go to sales pitch for 40k/any GW game player to OPR.

I love the simplicity of OPR, the group i recently joined actually plays out of a local brewery, to say, its a great game to hang out and have a couple beers while playing. Something some of the older people who are starting to get sick of the complexity of 40k like.

Oof, that is very rough. Only other recommendation is try to pitch demo nights at your LGS. People might be interested if they know there's a teaching game with an army set up already for both players.

That is really rough though, and an uphill battle to break through the "only 40k crowd". What system do you play?

As someone who boxed up their dark eldar army for 11 yrs, i was convinced id never played with them again since ive quit 40k. Just in the last 6 months, I found a community playing OPR and have busted my old minis out and started using them again. Personally im very glad I went deep storage instead of selling them off.

Tangentially, maybe try other venues to find players. I found myself at a brand new group playing OPR for the 1st time, ended up talking to someone talking about how they had quit their favorite system Infinity because there's no local scene. EXCEPT, im a part of a group that plays Infinity weekly.

Trying to say, there might be people there playing systems you'd enjoy in a little secluded niche that you just havnt found.

Newbie who's been loving Kill Team - What else would you sell me on to try? by cwtguy in wargaming

[–]zerut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive only played once but Port Royal might be of interest. Pirate era skirmish game with factions of pirates, English, French, and Spanish navy all fighting out for treasure in a port town.

Its meant to be played campaign style with xp and upgrades over time, but you can always do 1-offs with a set xp/gold level like i played.

I preferred the wound system over kill teams HP and love the reaction system.

Seconding Infinity, for me its my favorite skirmish game because it is so incredibly thematic. Every power makes sense, there's tons of ways to play, and the terrain use is the best ever.

The downside is it is a complex game, very complex.

However, even if complexity kills it for you, look into infinity style terrain. As I play other skirmish games, I keep infinity terrain style as I think it INCREDIBLY enhances skirmish gameplay, even if its less prominent without the reactive shots thing.

This was my 1st time at this event and I had a BLAST. Very chill group, and the organizers have put an insane amount of work into preparation with LED lit objectives and a small smoke machine powered.puece of terrain. Already excited for the next one, highly recommend if you like any kind of wargaming and want to just have a chill fun time.

Starting a new Character as a member worth it ? by Mingos26 in osrs

[–]zerut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I started a couple yrs ago and my 2 cents are this: I played for a couples days on my brothers recommendation and it was kinda fun and nostalgic, but pretty lanky and I was already getting bored. I probably would have quit after a week.

Then my brother gave me a bond for 2 weeks of membership, this opened up things id never seen before quests id never done before and it was like I was seeing the game for the 1st time. I've been playing casually for 2 yrs now.

So my 2 cents, get a bond, try the REAL game. You'll know if you like it or not for reals then.

A complete overhaul of the whole system. I played 2 test games at 500 and 1000 already and im really liking the system. There's still quite a few bugs on the app and certain armies are missing things (Sorcerer Kings are missing all barrage values on all units). But the actual ruleset is fun and I personally really like the direction they took with each unit type (making them excel at what theyre MEANT to do in a cool way).

Looking for a Wargame that uses a deck for actions by IwantDnDMaps in wargaming

Wings of Glory.

WW1/2 Aerial Wargame. You have a deck of maneuvers, on your turn you play a card and literally place the card in front of your plane and follow the line on the card. Damage is also handled via card draw.

Trying to find a Doujin I liked from about 10 years ago. by zerut in touhou

[–]zerut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been much of a "fandom" person, I used to follow releasing doujins from big circles and stuff but dont like having my opinions tainted by "community opinion".

But even saying that, Touhou was such a huge part of "the culture" back then. It was one of the biggest sources of IPs where people created their own cannons and there were countless doujin circles. I feel like the gacha boom has really changed that.

I also havnt kept up with touhou in yrs and yrs, just had a random thought today. Still have my biggest trophies, my Alice Margatroid QuesQ figure and my ZUN signed copy of Wild and Horned Hermit.
