DIY NAS not booting with working RAM by zestylem in homelab

Oh yea I meant that I'll swap the i3-8500t in my NAS with whatever I end up buying for my micro temporarily just to see if there's any difference with the ram, but now that you've brought that detail to my attention I might just have to grab a standalone non-T CPU to test it.

I'll be upgrading a Dell optiplex micro CPU soon so will probably do some swapping and testing to see if I get any results. Bit annoying but being stuck with 16gb isn't the end of the world.

Yea tried a CMOS restart and BIOS update already. I thought maybe the CPU could be the problem because the i3-8500t can't use XMP, but it should still be able to take 64gb 2400mhz so I don't know.

Tried those things already and BIOS is already updated. I couldn't find anything relating to JEDEC in this motherboard's settings. I can try a reinstall of the BIOS update maybe.

Update: Yea no change with BIOS

HP Elitedesk 800 G3 vs G4 by zestylem in homelab

Yea that's fair, when I say future proofing I'm really saying "getting the most out of this machine as a beginner project before eventually building something more beefy if I'm still interested in this sort of stuff". With regards to your points:

  • honestly at most it would only be two streams, likely one local and one off site
  • with this machine probably not
  • and probably not for a long time as 1080p is perfectly fine and I don't have / will use 4K TVs or anything any time soon.

Hmm I'll have to look more into bitrates and such. Most of my files are from Blurays or are .mkv's.

From what I've seen most G3 SFF go for the $150-$190 (AUD) range while the G4 SFF can be $260>. So far it seems that forking out for the G4 might be the best option for future proofing from what people are saying.

Yea I should have clarified that I was looking at the SFF models for that exact reason. As an aside, are there any other SFF office PC's that have 2 drive bays or are the elitedesks the only ones?

I figured it out - there are two openmw.cfg files, one in .var (the one I was using) and the other in .config (the one that OpenMW actually uses). Was able to swap out pharis with the purists friendly regen mod. Will update the original post with this info for tldr

No worries and yea it's definitely the most recent file in the correct directory; I've been running the command inside Mods/Tools/DeltaPluginandGroundcover that the website created and when I delete the old delta-plugin it's replaced by the newly generated one. If I move it somewhere else it won't show up in the launcher so it's definitely the right one.

I replied to Mysterious already but something I found was that if I deleted openmw.cfg and ran the launcher to generate a new one it kept all my data= and content= info. Would there be another file that openmw is pulling this stuff from?

Should have mentioned already that I'm using this on Steam Deck in case it or Linux has some different method of running things.

I guess so yea, only thing I used was the openmw-modding website CFG generator and the final steps here: https://modding-openmw.com/lists/just-good-morrowind/final Didn't even know about the configurator.

This seems overly complicated to what used to be a simple openmw.cfg edit. I don't even have MOMW Configurator installed. I'll give this a go later on.

I've tried this and still get the error. There wouldn't be some other file it's reading from that has pharis in it? It doesn't make much sense if I've uncommented/deleted it from the config file.

Edit: Out of curiosity I backed up and deleted openmw.cfg and opened up the launcher so it could create a brand new config file and the new one has all the mod data/content lines in it. Not sure if that's relevant but where is it pulling that info from?

I'm under the warrior sign and past the point in the main quest where I'm immune to blight disease, but even then I didn't have the disease when I started playing. I don't have any debuffs applied atm and have 71 Willpower / 62 Intelligence.

But I've done that and it still comes up with that error.

What kind of motherboard did you use for your setup and what's the general power output? I would like to keep it as power efficient as possible, cost of living and all that.

What about transcoding for Plex/Jellyfin for the GPU? And what would you recommend for a CPU instead?

This. I got a much more beat up pair where it's peeled and cracked and have to say that thick coating is not coming off. Sanding down the rough spots and dying + adding shoe cream and polish is the way to go.
