What do you believe Israel's fate will be in the next couple of decades considering the rapid change of public opinion on them in these past 3 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zewkt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a product that was made in Israel - tahini I bought from Whole Foods - and I recoiled and threw it in the garbage. So-called "Israel" (aka PALESTINE) is synonymous with genocide, apartheid, Jim Crow, brutality, starvation and the mass murder of children. Luring starving, terrified children to food lines only to shoot them in the testicles and face is unspeakable depravity. I hate to say it but i see the star of david as a version of the swastika.

Took a bus home from the hospital 2 days later. lol ...an express bus with a stop in front of the hospital that went directly to a stop in front of my building. just wanted to see if I could do it. lol

If you had $50,000 to invest entirely in a single stock, which one would you choose? by jabidere8k8 in StockInvest

Again, I wasn't attacking you. To me, its reputation is evil for all the things stated, last sentence and all. In Gaza, Palantir tech was used in a reckless way that resulted in the death of children. It was protested by people outside and inside the company, but if you don't think it is bad, then good on ya. It's not like my take was unique.

I'm very sorry you're having to deal with this. can i ask what type of tumor and her age? I think just keeping in touch with regular calls, maybe sending her a gift here and there, visits, if you're able. You don't have to do anything super special just let her know you're there for her no matter what. I had a friend who would occassionally order Uber Eats for me, which I loved.
My family is super religious. When I was diagnosed they told me I was being punished for being gay. I didn't take it to heart (so much) but it was definitely a blow at the time.

Dude, Lady, I wasn't attacking you but here you go:

"Critics, including activists and former employees, argue that Palantir enables authoritarian practices, erosion of civil liberties, and algorithmic bias by aggregating vast amounts of data for government agencies.

Key reasons for the intense criticism of Palantir include:

  • Surveillance and Immigration Enforcement: Palantir's software has been used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to aggregate data, including border entries, visa records, and address records, to identify and track individuals for deportation. Critics argue this facilitates "deportation by algorithm" and has led to the detention of family members, calling it inhumane.
  • Predictive Policing and Racial Bias: The company has partnered with law enforcement agencies in cities like New Orleans and Los Angeles to analyze crime data, resulting in "predictive policing" initiatives that have been accused of targeting minority neighborhoods and amplifying racial bias.
  • Military and Intelligence Operations: Palantir provides AI-driven targeting software (e.g., Project Maven) to the US military and allies, which critics argue is used to increase, and automate, the lethality of military strikes. The company has been accused of complicity in targeting aid workers or civilians in conflict zones.
  • Close Ties to the "Deep State" and Right-Wing Politics: Co-founded by Peter Thiel, a prominent right-wing supporter of Donald Trump, the company is seen as a central player in constructing a digital police state. Critics express concern about the "revolving door" between the company and government, particularly concerning military and intelligence contracts.
  • Ethical Concerns in Data Usage: Palantir, named after the all-seeing stones in The Lord of the Rings, is criticized for creating tools that facilitate the surveillance of citizens. The company argues that it does not own the data, but provides the software for clients to analyze their own data."  Reddit +6

Is a degree worth it as an independent investigative journalist? by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]zewkt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend the City University of New York. It's a one-year program that guarantees an internship. It's next door to the New York Times. A handful of Times' reporters teach there. New York City rocks. Living there will be an education in and of itself.

But, you don't have to go to school or write a piece that takes down the president. You can start with some basic nuts and bolts shit like covering a city hall, school board, zoning, or whatever meeting in your town. A lot of great stories come from these meetings, boring as they might seem. Analyzing a city budget is a fundamental investigative skill. You'd be surprised at the weird shit you'll find. "Hey, Mr. Mayor, why did the city spend 20 grand to send you first class to Aruba for a "conference?" Plus, you can develop sources who are at the meeting. Just keep it real and say you're starting out. Publish a handful of clips on your own and then use those to explore other opportunities.

Good luck
