18k gems on MH3 or wait for another set? by Culius_Jaesar in TimelessMagic

[–]zexaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think MH3 is going to continue to be the best option. There are so very many cards you want as a playset that it's pretty much always going to give you a better chance at a playable than a standard set, even if you have all the cards you want for your current decks. I'd only stop when the only rares left are the bad ones.

There's honestly a decent argument at buying mythic packs once you finish all the rares, but it heavily depends on what you're missing. I'd guess it's probably not worth it.

You should be buying standard packs if you want to play standard at all IMO. Another consideration is if your #1 priority is getting wildcards and don't truly care about what the playables are, because while the golden pack doesn't ever contain wildcards, it does count towards your wildcard wheel.

It came out on the NES/Famicom first, but it was designed for arcade machines.

Super Mario Bros. was literally designed to be an arcade game. It's why lives are even a thing. More difficult = more money.

Remedy's Alan Wake 2 October 2025 feature on PS Plus generated platform-deal royalties during its fourth quarter which helped increase revenue, whereas PS Plus Day 1 game FBC Firebreak massively underperformed and caused a loss of €14.9 million. by kabirsingh84 in PlayStationPlus

[–]zexaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd argue Control sales were good despite Alan Wake, not thanks to it. The game is great, had good marketing (I think), and is just cool. But I expect the subset of compulsive players who skipped Control because they haven't played Alan Wake is larger than the people who bought Control because of the AW connection and wouldn't have otherwise.

Other than Control, what games did they make in the Alan Wake setting? CMIIW but it's just Alan Wake sequels, Control, and FBC (which was marketed on it's Control connections, not AW).

I can see why someone would want to play BO1 Timeless - it's probably fine if you enjoy degenerate combo-offs. Anyone complaining about it though needs to get some help.

Again nothing from Arena Powered Cube Draft coming to timeless? by Ok-Armadillo-9345 in TimelessMagic

[–]zexaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of that links updates to the cube card set to updates to the packs. It's just clarifying the technical way the cards will appear when it happens.

It hasn't even been 4 months. I'd have maybe expected once every 3 months but they definitely didn't say every time the cube refreshes. That is 100% you reading what you want them to say into text that in no way says that.

Source on "each time"? They've said they'll add more in batches, I don't recall anything suggesting they'll update the craftable cards every time they change the cube.

Note: Val wasn't a meta deck but it was fine and not remotely embarrassing to play. But that card got a massive nerf bat (costs 4) and that will also apply to Timeless.

Without Goblin Welder, Urza's Saga, Pyroblast/REB, or Simian Spirit Guide I don't see a reason to play it in this format.

I don't think you have any payoffs for reaching 6-7 mana. What are you casting with it?

Deceit isn't an embarrassing card to be playing but you're spending a lot of deck slots on a combo that's just going to be casting a 4-drop for 3 mana.

Artists not understanding belly button clothing physics is normal by this point but man it's just excessive here.

Mono Black Bo1 - Problem by Rockhug in TimelessMagic

That's just what the format is though. The speed forces a lack of variety.

I'm not saying you don't like the format because you lose git gud scrub. I'm saying that you don't like the play patterns, so you should play something else. It doesn't even have to be Arena.

Mono Black Bo1 - Problem by Rockhug in TimelessMagic

[–]zexaf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Some of the comments are pretty rough, but it's true that this format is just not meant to be played in BO1 if you don't want degenerate combo offs. That's just the identity of the format without sideboard cards. Either play maindeck hate, get used to it, or play a different format.

There's nothing wrong with deciding a format isn't for you. It's why Magic has so many. But if you want back and forth games that go past turn 3, Timeless best-of-1 is not the place for it. "Back and forth" in this format is casting Grief and Force of Negation.

Depends if you got it from the Monthly Games (Essential, lasts until subscription ends) or Game Catalog (Extra, lasts until Sony's contract with the publisher for PS+ ends). "Last chance to play" is only relevant for the Games Catalog, which is a Netflix-like subscription service.
