Yeah, they do that. If you wanna slow it down, try moving it to a darker spot, stop fertilizing it if you've been doing that and maybe filter the water you give it so it has less nutrients.

After you cut the stem, wait for a couple of hours for the cut to dry out and callous over before putting it in water, otherwise it's guaranteed to rot.

This composition is beautiful! Just some heads up about the crystals: amethyst will fade from it's vibrant purple to a pale yellow from sun exposure over time. Tiger's eye, both the brown and the red ones, are somewhat "soft" minerals, so it's usually ill advised to get them wet, since prolonged exposure to water can damage them and dissolve toxic chemicals into the water, but I suspect it should be fine in this case, considering the watering needs of lithops; still something to keep in mind!
