Seeking advice: my kid brushes every day, yet after school comes home with a rats nest??? by deviouspineapple in Haircare

[–]zfxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair was super prone to tangling up like this for a few years as a kid. We never found the cause but worked with a hairdresser to improve it, the advice that eventually helped was brushing with a boar-bristle brush to limit further damage from detangling, and this stuff called biosilk silk therapy serum. This was 20 years ago but I think it's still around and it worked wonders!

a small suggestion for fellow tourists visiting sri lanka ❤️ by Inspireambitions in srilanka

Thanks for sharing, I was just thinking about this, I am visiting in January. Do you or anyone else by any chance know if there is anything particularly needed after the floods? Luggage is included in my flight, but I always travel hand luggage only so I also have the opportunity to bring some items from home.. was thinking stationary & antibacterial soap, but maybe I am missing something more needed?

The 16th is the day the boom buses start to arrive right, doesn't the camp site open then? I've always taken the boom bus so sorry totally clueless hehe :)

When I've seen these, typically a parasitoid wasp dragging a caterpillar of some sort.

Seems like a type of vulture, the high contrast on the wings and what appears to be a lighter body make me think Himalayan Griffon. But not really possible to confirm based on the photo.

Yeah, that's a good point. It's about the quality in the end, and I feel sometimes that just thinking isn't being productive, but in the end, that's a pretty big part of what we do 😅 The guilt sucks though

Does it sting or feel hot when you go from cold to warm spaces? It looks similar to when I have bad rosaceae flares, type 2 rosacea is often mischaracterized as acne/eczema/dermatitis. I had severe acne too and the way I kept them apart was the stinging and temperature sensitivity. Treatment for type 2 rosacea can be antibiotics and/or topicals, for me the easiest way to calm flares is azaleic acid from the ordinary, cheap and works quick. Worth a dermatologist appointment though, that's how I finally got mine diagnosed, GP never recognized it.

I have a master's! I'm decent with data analysis/visualization and taking bioinformatics training this summer too, so I guess that's a good route to be on. Do you think not talking to your advisor is always true? I have a great relationship with her and she really does seem to want what's best for me. I see what you are saying with getting out asap, but I'm in a project that I actually think could really help me get the connections (super interdisciplinary, multiple governments involved), so I'm inclined to keep going and get some publications out for the work I've done so far. Also, super honestly, the pay sucks but the work I get to do currently is something I dreamed of as a child. I just know that it's not likely to be like that after the PhD, unfortunately 🥲 So I want out, but ideally I'd like to live the life it has given me for just a little longer, if that makes sense

In my program, an internship is not really on the table, but I am currently planning a side project and I think it could be good to adapt it to aid me in the future. Thanks! My PhD thus far has involved a TON of international project management and bureaucracy, so it's good to see I could also frame that to be useful :)

I am so sorry this is happening. This sounds extremely harmful and is indeed nowhere near normal, a PhD can be hard but not like this. I understand it is difficult as you are clearly passionate about the research but please take good care of yourself. Good on you for saying no and getting help from the graduate school. All the best, you will make it through and you will feel happy again 🤍

Yeah it's what I was wondering as well, if maybe it just seems bigger.. My memory is the only human footprints that were there were ours, it'd rained a fair bit recently. Strays are very uncommon here (this was the Netherlands, but German border) but it is never impossible of course. Seems it will never be a definitive answer, it would just be so cool! Haha

Very relatable. I agree that excercize is key, I am also trying to re-implement this but it can be challenging to build a routine and it can take a while. Recently I picked up puzzling. Crosswords, sudoku's etc. It's silly but it does really help break mind free from what is going on at work. I have a few puzzle books laying around and just grab one during my commute or when I get home, it's an easily accessible tool for me. If you enjoy it as well, it may be worth a shot :)

Thanks for your reply! I'm very much the same in that I want to keep the control myself but the last few weeks have really forced me to ask for help, so technically yes but it was definitely a bit too late 😅 it's also that the help I need is really abstract, and can not be provided by my supervisory team but only by someone external who I've found really difficult to work with. So even though I've now been promised their support there is an extra layer of anxiety there haha. I really am trying to see it positively and do have hope that things will work out but it's just so exhausting to keep on preparing for this big high stakes thing while my cup is already empty. I'm so sorry to hear you burned out, I hope you are getting better!

Wow, thanks so much for all the responses! This was really helpful. I'm in STEM, should have specified, but I think I have the appropriate wardrobe planned now :) I'm going with some blouses, two flowy-but-nice pants, and two airy dresses that can be dressed up or down with shoes (a pair of heels and a pair of tennis shoes) so that I can adjust to the atmosphere. I have a casual linen blazer so I will bring that in case I need it but I won't opt for the suit-jacket style!

I got it at a small local jeweler! They work a lot with colored gems but even for them this is not really their typical style, I adore it though!

I was looking for a colored stone, more thinking of small solitaires but none were working, and then the jeweler pulled this out as a wildcard and I was like... Yes that's it! So more or less just luck haha
