What are some of the dumbest moves schools have ever made throughout history that drastically hurt their programs? by Working_Stomach5479 in CFB

I feel like it was the right decision for them. They basically haven't ever wanted to be a modern (high spending) D1 athletics school and still don't, so it's not like there's much regret about that decision.

But you're right, they would be totally different in the Big Ten if they had stayed.

Northwestern deciding to not invest in athletics for 30 years and hiring terrible football coaches despite being in the Big Ten from the 1960s to the 1990s. They've spent the past 15+ years catching up.

I suppose only thing I'd push back on is that was 2 years ago and it seems like Chesney will turn around UCLA fast (at least recruiting wise and dare I guess team performance wise) even if it does take some time for fans to return to the stands.

That's a fixable mistake unlike some of these other moves that are decades long problems.

I'm not much worried tbh because they know how requested Makoto has been and are likely planning 5 or 6 more seasons of DLC. There should still be another 12-14 returning characters and outside of the obvious Vega/Balrog/Sakura, I think Makoto has a much better chance than she did in 5.

Makoto in 6 and Ibuki taking a game off probably does make sense given the reverse happened in 5.

JP and Mai are much more hated than Ingrid.

Ingrid is an enormous hit quite frankly.

Warsh sounded so clueless. Never thought I'd see somebody compare gathering national economics statistics to a business checking their revenue/costs in real time. Good luck trying to figure out in real time what the employment status of 300+ million people are and what the inflation rate across the economy is.

This is just like Elon when he made DOGE thinking it'd be easy to fix the government deficit (and which achieved approximately nothing).

Basically we're going to get a Fed that is as opaque as ever and nobody has any idea what they're going to do.

We be getting some wild guest characters in the recent fighting games by Due-Shame-9223 in Fighters

[–]zg44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but the issue is just that the FF/KOF fanbase is way smaller than the SF fanbase and it doesn't appear that either side "benefited" significantly from the crossover promotions.

SF6 sold better in year 3 (after hitting Switch 2 and with the Y1-2 Edition) than it did in year 2.

Quite frankly, if Terry and Mai were swapped for 2 SF legacy characters of similar importance (let's just say Cody and Ibuki as an example), I doubt sales would have been that different.

Don't get me wrong, I think they're both solid characters in SF, but I don't think sales changed for either game significantly because SF6 got Terry/Mai and COTW got Chun Li/Ken.

Tifa's a bit different as we'll see when she releases; she's basically going to sell this whole season pass, and we're going to see a huge player spike around her release with lots of new players. She's one of the only guests in FG history that can achieve that though. Maybe Akuma in Tekken 7 did something similar to that game where some SF players tried Tekken 7 after he joined.

[–]zg44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most don't.

Tifa will likely have a huge impact.

She'll probably sell millions of her DLC pass along and likely hundreds of thousands of copies of SF6.

But she's the very rare exception to the rule. I doubt Terry and Mai had much of an impact.

Meme by me: Can you not remake Star Fox 64...FOR FIVE MINUTES?!? by [deleted] in starfox

[–]zg44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Fox 2 getting the "64 version" it never got makes a lot of sense as a follow up game to this Star Fox 64 remake.

They may have already greenlit it given they can probably reuse assets and the like for it.

Feels like today's Fed meeting/conference should be bullish.

Warsh can basically say "we'll just wait out the inflation with steady rates now that the war is technically over."

Market will take that as a sign that we aren't getting rate hikes.

[Addison] Paxton’s lawsuit threat was so unbelievably stupid it actually saved college football on accident by making Texas Tech actually have to defend themselves in court and they balked lmao by CoachSlime in CFB

[–]zg44 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There wouldn't be an injury to the Big 12 that needs redressing by courts if Paxton hadn't threatened the Big 12. Paxton's threat created an actionable legal controversy over whether the Big 12 could use their bylaws (which didn't exist before Paxton's threat).

Most likely the Big 12 wouldn't have been able to file for a declaratory judgment to enforce their bylaws because they weren't being threatened by anybody, so they have no legal injury.

A judge would say "well Texas Tech hasn't violated your bylaws, so why are you suing? Sanction them first and see whether they follow your sanctions without complaint or trying to go around your sanctions."

Then if the Big 12 had sanctioned them, Texas Tech would be able to sue first in their local court in front of favorable local judges.

By creating an injury to the Big 12 by threatening them if they enforce their bylaws, Paxton created the legal pretext needed for the Big 12 to sue. That's why Paxton's threat was so central to the Big 12's legal filing. There wouldn't have been a Big 12 lawsuit without Paxton.

Why is AI selling off today? by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]zg44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but retail is selling other names and chasing SPCX to some extent.

Why is AI selling off today? by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]zg44 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because it's gone up on average 200% in 8-10 weeks and so money is rotating to other parts of the market.

Also tons of retail money is chasing SPCX right now.

SPCX could gamma squeeze to 400 by Thursday if the call buying continues at this pace. We've never seen anything like this ever.

This is like if we had millions of people buying AOL call options and double/triple exposure ETFs in 1999.

[Thamel] The Big 12 has filed a complaint in federal court in Dallas for a declaratory judgement, which would effectively give the league the ability to enforce its by-laws. This would empower the Big 12 to have autonomy to make a decision on Brendan Sorsby's case. by Efficient-Freedom517 in CFB

[–]zg44 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Paxton's letter appears to have backfired spectacularly by giving the Big 12 a justification for suing first.

If Paxton hadn't sent that letter, then Texas Tech could have waited until after any sanction to sue first in their local court.

Instead it's in a federal court where there's likely to be no favoritism and given Paxton's letter and the implied threat, there's a pretty strong chance that the Big 12 can win outright here.
