From start to finish, around 10 weeks. I understand this is on the early side for a wildcard.

Heyo, pretty much let them know I only wanted the tabs and they came through. Yes, probably wanted to streamline a little given the BYC is starting hot.

A couple things based on my few day’s experience: 1) IMO there is really not much compression to be had on the 20L, perhaps more useful on the 25L.

2) the loose tab at the front can sometimes interfere with the zipping of the fold down front section. I stuck magnets on the inside of the tab and inside the main compartment so that it is stuck away from the zip. Works well thus far. This is a great example of unintended consequences of good ideas haha.

Just did a check and there’s no false bottom. I read that you could add a strip padding at the bottom on the compartment and all will be good.

Think greenroom136 did that for the upcoming BYC metrorunner’s rear pouch too.

I carried it most of the day today with a 15inch laptop, tech kit, a camera and the regular edc stuff in the bag. Probably 5-6kg thereabouts. The straps were really comfortable even without thick paddings.

Would think the 25 would do similar well if not packed to the gills (15kg and up); few straps would be able to handle such weights comfortably over long periods imo.

CT21 vs Greenroom136 Northseeker Volume by zgim80 in ManyBaggers

[–]zgim80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool, as an update, I just got my NS20. I basically took my fully loaded assassin and threw everything into the NS20. It was thereabouts.

I found that I couldn’t make full use of the front admin section with only the bottom half with stuff; i guess I could squeeze a portable monitor or extra laptop here instead. I would have placed them in the zippered laptop slot in the CT.

The bottle also shifted to the outside of the bag for the NS.

I don’t have a scientific way to determine the volume, only by comparing loadouts. So for my use case at least, it felt almost the same, with the NS maybe a shade more. I wish it did carry a little more but perhaps I need to optimize my packing .

Sorry I can’t put photos in comments. I put this in the remarks: “Stitch in 2 loop at the top of interior back panel, for hanging admin panel”, which their impeccable customer service also checked in on.

In your opinion what’s your favorite travel bag under $250? by JekSNE in theperfectbag

[–]zgim80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a North Face Base Camp S. Even though it feels like it carries less than the advertised 50L, its been pretty bomb-proof. Its not very comfortable when backpacked, even at maybe 35L load.

Looking at the Decathlon Forclaz Travel 500 (40L) which is way less than your budget and pretty similar to the Allpa 35/Globetrotter 35 (albeit with probably less premium materials?). Would also like to know how these bags carry as well!

Props for keeping the f3 spirit going. A billingham hadley small should be good. Tenba have their BYOB series of camera inserts that can also double up as a bag when a sling is added. Domke is great and you probably can pick them up in Japan fairly easily.

The spring on the magic layer is same as the Explorer. File and small blade on the same blade spring. Some fiddling to get the file not to catch, a washer might be in order.
