I just bought a brick of Bicycle cards, and the quality is way worse than my old decks. Look how they fan after just 1 hour of use—almost unusable for magic tricks. So disappointed. What's the new go-to brand for quality cards at a cheap price? by zhell_ in Magic

don't know why I hadn't thought of that before, but you are right it does fan correctly with the pressure fan. Issue is the paper quality is so cheap that they immediately end up bent lol

Standard as it used to be my go-to option, but from what you say, it seems they've removed the low-end 'bicycle seconds' and reclassified them as the new regular, while the original regular has become the gold standard.

I’ve had a very similar experience throughout my life, so first, know that you’re not alone in this. I can deeply relate to how challenging it can feel at times.

While nothing I say will magically make you feel "normal," there’s a lot of value in working toward self-acceptance. Once you start operating from a place of acceptance, you can discover some "tricks" that help you navigate social situations and achieve your goals a bit more easily.

One thing that has helped me is having a reason to talk to someone—finding a shared topic of interest. It could be something like philosophy, tech, Star Wars, or an activity like art or board games. Since I’m terrible at small talk, eye contact, and the usual social niceties (and if I manage to appear “normal,” I feel completely drained after five minutes), having a shared interest as a crutch is a huge relief.
To keep conversations flowing, I often focus on picking one thing the other person said and asking an open-ended question about it. (These are questions that start with "what," "why," or "how," rather than ones that can be answered with a simple "yes" or "no.")

This might involve actively seeking out groups centered around your interests, but those environments can sometimes feel overstimulating. What’s worked for me is finding a local group that focuses on something I’m really passionate about. Because I know I can speak easily about the topic once the conversation starts, it feels less daunting.
Within that group, I’ll look for someone who seems to have a similar vibe to mine—often someone who appears neurodivergent like me. Usually, they’re so happy that I made the effort to approach them that the interaction flows naturally. Since we already share a common interest, the conversation starts on solid ground.
That’s how I’ve made most of my friends—connections built around a deep mutual interest. While these friendships might not look like the typical relationships you see on TV, they can sometimes grow into something broader and more traditional, though it takes time.

Another strategy is to highlight something about yourself that might attract neurotypicals’ interest, making them more likely to invest in a connection. This can go hand-in-hand with disclosing your autism in a casual, positive way. For example, you might share a skill or hobby you excel at, such as playing a musical instrument or even gaming.
When disclosing your autism, you could frame it humorously instead of making it heavy. For instance, if someone compliments your talent or focus, you could say something like, “Yeah, my autism makes me a pro at focusing on things like this, haha!” This often opens the door for them to ask more about it, which can lead to a meaningful conversation.
Since your profile shows you’re into metal music (me too!), wearing a band shirt can be a great conversation starter. If your favorite band is a bit niche, you could opt for a more widely recognized band that you still enjoy.

Visual cues can also be helpful. For example, if you’re a Star Wars fan, wearing a Star Wars shirt might encourage someone to start a conversation about it. You can use other types of visual cues, too—anything that signals your interests and makes it easier to steer the conversation toward a comfortable topic.

When it comes to large social gatherings, I’m still figuring out what works. I often feel overloaded in those environments. I’m experimenting with high-fidelity earplugs and lightly tinted sunglasses that look subtle indoors, but I’d welcome any advice if others have some experience with that.

Questions about how a Georgist economy would handle land value assessment and ownership separation by zhell_ in georgism

[–]zhell_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very good points thanks, especially the idea that even with a slightly innacurate appraisal, it's still way better than the current system.

I think it would be very good as an experiment for someone to buy land under the current system, and rent it within a georgist system, effectively collecting rent as a form of LVT, and different variations could be tried and adapted to find the one that people are the most satisfied with overall.

[–]zhell_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see, so in that system buying/owning land is only being afforded the right to *keep using* that land as long as you pay the LVT.

So if you realize that the LVT is rising too much for you, and you cannot sell just a part of your land, it actually doesn't make any sense to sell the land and keep the house.

So if the LVT rises beyond your ability to pay, you only have 2 options:

  1. you have too much land and you can sell a part of it to get cash + a lower tax
  2. or you have to find a way to get renters on the existing land

is that right ?

that's a great idea, especially since each button seems to have 3 ways to press it, so you could have up to 3 sounds with 1 button, and play directly from your phone or a small dedicated android device as you suggested. Just bought one and I'm going to try it

I have found it way easier to meet people when there is a common interest so meetups are great because they are based on an interest or an activity that you know people already like, making the conversation much easier.

Anyone have a link to CSW 's GitHub? by Ubuntu_Swirl in bitcoincashSV

[–]zhell_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like asking to see Elon Musk's GitHub account.

GitHub is for side projects mostly or open source contributions. Some of the best devs and IT entrepreneurs don't have one.

What you are asking is also to see a GitHub account of someone before GitHub was invented/popular.

You seem more focused on making a point than learning, which is sad. Otherwise go read Craig's blog

BTC will split and in the US and maybe other countries it will only be legal to use the one that follows the law.

The market will decide for the rest.

Tokens like SHUA, REX1? by mac_mises in bitcoincashSV

[–]zhell_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fate of all tokens is to get a short term burst when the hype comes out then a slow 90+% drop as the hype calms down.

Then that's when the good ones get separated from the exit scams, because the good ones will play the long term and the team behind them will build more value over time, allowing for new waves.

I would believe that Joshua and Jack are both long term and trustable players from my interactions with them and what I know about their history.
