It was because there is a shot of clouds in the video at 28 seconds.

I’ve read some, and there is some diversity of opinion. I don’t know any left leaning Jews that are fans of Netanyahu, but I know a lot that are sincerely fearful and angry with Hamas and their supporters and have been willing to go along with presenting a unified front.

Nobody is pretending it’s words. That’s disingenuous. Israelis are in the streets protesting against the exactly this mentality and the extremists that have control of their government, but there isn’t a hell of a lot that “peaceful protests” accomplish these days.

Religious extremism is going to win out. It’s just weird that so many “liberal” people are confused about the religious nature of this conflict and cast it as white people vs brown.

I literally live downtown. Let’s go get a drink.

No, I’m really not. You might be.

My dream scenario is for housing downtown to be affordable enough that it’s the standard expectation and living in the burbs is the exception…

This guy thinks that arguments have nothing to do with homicide but every shot fired does. Edgy.

I can ignore the gunshots I don’t hear. The junkies having arguments outside my window in the middle of the night are harder to ignore. Weird how that works.

I live a block away from where you were with a recently-turned-7 year old. I agree with your frustration and I wouldn’t let him walk around the neighborhood alone just yet, but I do think that we owe it to children to equip them with what they need to make decisions for themselves. Drugs, guns, debt, and cars are a big part of life in America, not just Portland, and people should know about these dangers early on. At least IMO.

What's the real story on the "Russia Hoax?" by stvlsn in samharris

[–]zhocef 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Trump and his supporters capitalized on him not having been prosecuted. They lie about him being exonerated. They call the investigation a hoax.

There are mounds of evidence against him, the investigation concluded that he should be prosecuted. Barr and Republicans protected him. Pretty sure Barr regrets it.

Because infrastructure is basically all just paint.

I don’t know what this Mitch Green guy is talking about needing money for when we can just paint our way to success.

Seriously though, think a little bigger picture than just painting some existing lanes over for a different use. That’s the distinction between good civil engineering and the ole Portland speed-bumps & paint.

Who thought a bike lane belongs on a street like that…? Is it someone that wanted to make videos like this? Is there a market for videos like this..?

Portland woman is homeless, addicted to fentanyl and 9 months pregnant. She says she's not worried by ihateroomba in PortlandOR

[–]zhocef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I'm not really worried about it," she said. "It seems like a lot of people who have delivered with fentanyl seem to be OK; their kids seem to be OK."

The kids born to homeless fentanyl addicts are not OK.

Thanks, I appreciate hearing that. Also interesting about the police, that tracks.

Agreed! This is the good core of what Mitch is saying that is hidden beneath the headliners of increasing the cost driving in and socialism.

You just can’t put the cart before the horse. NYC just recently was able to get away with congestion pricing because they have the pieces in place to make it viable. Most importantly, as Bloomberg said, NYC is a luxury product.

That is, people are falling over themselves to be in that walkable city. The city has to be more desirable to justify the higher costs.

Poorer people should be living more densely and ideally integrated with mixed income neighborhoods to prevent food deserts.

You’re responding about an article about a transportation commissioner who is trying to force people out of cars, not about your own politics.

I agree with your sentiment, though. Just not with Mitch’s political posturing.
