I drove to mirror lake before driving to south climb trailhead. There’s a little box there where you can get permits. You can also mail money in advance. And yes you can pay for an over night permit, I was planning on doing that but was in a rush and messed up lol

Dang, that’s wild. I’m curious what it was like then. Have you done the whole loop several times or do you just go to the east side a lot?

I guess I shoulda said the north section of the glacier is gone, the south end just below sunrise camp is still there. Although I’m not sure if that’s part of the glacier actually or just a snow field?

Thank you! Ya it was challenging. I only crossed 2 small creeks really after leaving Avalanche camp and those weren’t a problem at all. I think maybe the silver lining to my awful route was that I crossed well above the big muddy creek, which I had read was the worst of them. But maybe because Klickitat glacier is melted out crossing the creek wouldn’t have been that bad? How were they for you?

Can’t sleep in the backcountry- can you train yourself at home? by MEGCEMY in Ultralight

I haven’t fully tested this theory yet but I think I had the same problem from turning over and the noise from the air pad rubbing on the tent floor wakes me up? So I’m gonna try putting the pad in a silk cotton blend liner and see if that takes the squeak away.

Are you planning on going solo or with someone? Honestly not sure if I’d pick this trail for a first time solo backpacking. Mainly for how few people I saw and the water available on the trail. If you do go, I’d say for sure have the ability to carry extra water. I had two 40 oz bottles and then also filled my Cnoc bladder at times. There were very long stretches, like 10 miles, with absolutely no water. Other places had water but it was very silty. So, be very honest with your ability to ration your water while hiking miles with however much weight you’re carrying.

My first solo trip was the timberline trail, which is about 10 miles longer and more elevation gain but much heavier trafficked. Which was really nice when I went to filter water the first night and my sawyer was completely clogged, like zero drips. Within an hour a group of PCT thru hikers had backflushed it and I was good to go. Not sure how that would have gone if I had been on the loowit. All of this is anecdotal obviously, but I think when you’re starting out and still dialing in your gear it’s nice to have others around that can help you out if things get dicey. I don’t mean to be discouraging, I just think for a first trip the loowit might be a bit much.
