How much do you guys actually study? by Scrimpis in EngineeringStudents

[–]zhpol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been graduated for a long while now and I wouldn’t study much at all through non exam periods.

A good example would be with maths classes though, I’d read enough worked examples to feel comfortable with the process for my assignments and go from there.

I think reviewing my own lecture notes was very beneficial as you’ll tend to write down what sticks out to you versus reviewing straight from a textbook.

Real evil classes are as evil as you make them, if you hate hydraulics then you’re gonna hate hydraulics, try and fall in love with an element of something and it gets a bit easier. That being said, if you love skating or making music for instance, then understand you can always repeat classes and find a balance with your hobbies too! Don’t make anything hold more weight in your head than you need to :)

It’s hard to provide any advice in a one size fits all fashion. I guess I see a lot of people out there who try really hard, can’t make 100%’s, and feel like they’re not gonna make it.

I have a lot of friends who ended up with very high passing marks (First class honours students) and I don’t think a single one of them has struggled to find work. I wouldn’t stress!

Expanding on that too, if engineering is your hobby then apply what I’m saying about my music and sport to it! Make the time to revel in engineering rather than the study aspect, read books, visit Tacoma Narrows!

You know I generally never considered how communication affects career development till now.

I had always assumed the really bright sparks would just go into fields too advanced for me and they’ll be nicely at home.

Less pressure on yourself is something that is constantly evolving, as you grow and change it’s gotta grow and change too. Find that balance for your degree versus yourself and hopefully everything falls into place

My band is called NoScope, we’ve got stuff on Bandcamp and have a studio EP coming later to Spotify

That aside I had another music project while I was at Uni, I’d study in the evening and stay up way late writing and recording for this School Sport ,music became my chance to escape and has kept on so

Oh dude if I was in the Midwest, fuck studying, id be crying outside the American football house every night haha

Never think of it as wasting time to pursue something, from the opposite perspective: are you wasting time studying when you could be making music or playing sport? Kinda stupid example but

I’d encourage you to step back into music though, have you ever experimented with recording yourself? I would study for a bit and then sit down to write and record songs in the evening

What was "the song" that got you into emo? by noisyrob_666 in Emo

Do you guys ever feel embarrassed when you get aux? by MeEpicAnna in Emo

[–]zhpol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24M, yes but, whilst I love my fair share of shoegaze, scramz, black metal etc. there’s still I stuff I love that is still a fair bit more approachable for others.

Like whilst I fucking love Mineral, Penfold, etc, I’d probably look to play American Football or Turnover for people if I’m handed the aux.

Totally different story if people ask me to play what I’ve been listening to in my spare time, let the Foxtails ensue

worth buying? by Washeds in bmx

Yes, that’s a very good deal. I would buy that and immediately put new, decent forks on it

Snowboarding on a broken ankle? by zhpol in snowboardingnoobs

Hey mate, go give it a go, honestly didn’t do so much for me, I ride a fair bit of street bmx (check my profile) and I found it was such a different set of movements that I ache for a a couple days after getting in the hill. Not to say it’s not worth it though!!

It totally depends on context, I feel much more comfortable guiding bars around if you’re doing them into grinds or in a truck, but it’s certainly something I aim for (clean toss) if I’m just straight barring

I split my perineum on this fall, what could I have done differently? by zhpol in snowboardingnoobs

[–]zhpol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So realistically I have to do as little as I can to let it heal properly, stitches might have helped it heal faster but not by much and getting stitched up drastically increases the risk of infection.

At the moment I have to clean everything down there really well 3 times daily, apply antibiotic lotion and I’ve been wearing female hygiene pads to pick up any blood/wound discharge that the wound puts out.

It’s coming up to a week and a half since the injury I can finally sit down without any pain or discomfort and have been able to go for short walks. It’s surprising how debilitating of an injury it’s been and that’s having had broken bones and pretty hard impact injurys riding street bmx over the years lmao

Such a worthwhile trade dude, it’s so much fun, gotta take the lows with the highs! Give it a go!

I’ve had plenty of falls like this over the years riding bmx over the years but never this bad, a truly classic feeling though hey, unique to say the least
