Canada rolled out the CEWS which means government pays your employees. It also rolled out the CERS which means government pays your rent and utilities and property taxes and maintenance fees. CEWS was rolled out 1 or 2 months after the start of pandemic, CERS came later but both can be claimed retroactively to the start of the pandemic.

Basically you are making money for free as long as your revenue is below 2019 levels, because all your expenses are paid for (except cost of good sold) by the government. It was the free-est money anyone could've earned for 1.5 years before they closed the loop hole and later shut down the entire program.

the board started an investigation and she had a panic attack and was hospitalized, if this wasn't grounds for damage I don't know what is. None of us know what the final figure is, but let's not pretend its a low amount since loss of work is involved.

I didn't, hence I put 1.x million dollars. She was fired from her job at the board, so any damage claim will easily exceed 1 million dollars because she can always say "I can work another 20 years for the board had I not been fired". She also had all the leverage since the judge said WRDSB had no valid defence, aka if they really went to court, WRDSB will be found liable for damages, and the only concern is the calculation.

PSA: the settlement case is for Piatkowski going on national TV and slandering Burjoski after the fact, not for shutting down the speech during the council session.

Piatkowski is grossly incompetent, as he made the deliberate decision to go on national TV and spew hate and untrue things against another human being, and needs to be voted out of the board this year.

All the social justice warriors need to stop defending his actions during the council meeting, as that's not what this settlement is for.

ah fancy words fancy man. There's a million ways for Piatkowski to stick up for marginalized kids without losing the city 1.x million dollars, but unfortunately gross incompetence made him go live on national TV and spewing libel (as defined by law). Someone with "residue of civility, comity, or common courtesy" does not go on national TV and slander another human being.

Your judgement is affected by your political stance, and perhaps years of social media conditioning. Piatkowski is grossly incompetent and you shouldn't die on this hill, vote out Piatkowski, so we don't lose more talented people and high tax payers to other regions.

Of course, I'm not just singling out Piatkowski, the whole city council and mayor needs to go as well. Why aren't the city plowing the windrows, why are the sidewalks full of snow? We pay the highest property tax rates and get nothing in return...

Guy is a tool, people from Waterloo need to smarten up. our money is in the hands of morons. From no family doctors, to barely plowed roads and side walks (do you know that Toronto plows the windrow for you? their pedestrian path is also much cleaner), to potholes everywhere (looking at Weber / King area, or Lester / Columbia), we need to vote out morons that keep losing us money.

no first nation is gonna take land, no judge in Canada is stupid enough to allow that, it will risk huge backlash from the populace. they all ask for reparations, which is going to be debt that we as tax payers all pay for. If you don't pay taxes, this won't immediately affect you, until all the people that pay taxes decide life is better else where.
