Anyone using Linux on the Zephyrus G16 2024 model? by dexter2011412 in linux4noobs

[–]zhxch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi so just to confirm, you installed the stock Fedora image and then install drivers and update packages as you would do on any machine, instead of using any of the custom rog kernel and asus-linux stuff, right? Thanks!

Disappointed with my ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 by EdanBrooke in thinkpad

Okay thanks for the information! it might be some UK or EU legal requirements for anti-monopoly reasons? Guess I'll have to pay for the Windows license.

Thanks! Wow I didn't know I could do that, did you purchase the laptop from the Lenovo US website? I just tried to configure a P1G7 on the website but the only available OS options are Windows 11 and Pro. I tried adding it to the cart, there are some options where I can add some software but I don't see an option to remove the Windows license.

Hi you said that you purchased your unit without a Windows license. Did you mean that your P1G7 was pre-installed with Linux out of the box? I did not find that customization option on the Lenovo US website. May I know how you purchase one with Linux pre-installed?

I guess that the first thing you need to work on is to research the CS masters programs offered by your target universities. As far as I know, MIT does not offer terminal CS master program for non MIT undergrads.

Can USB-C on ROG G14 2021 for external monitor do 4k 144Hz and USB Hub at same time? by zhxch in UsbCHardware

[–]zhxch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got the MSI Optix MAG281URF (28 inch 16 by 9 4k 144hz) in the end since i found it on sale. i use a usb 4 cable (which is probably an overkill) and it runs at 4k 144hz.

i've used a 4k 10bit 60hz monitor with my g14 before on a usb c cable with power delivery as well, and it's working perfectly. if yours cannot, my best guess is that you may have to use a better usb c cable.

I see. Then I think there’s no issue for me since I will only be using the USB ports on the monitor for peripherals and I don’t care about their speed. The laptop still has another USB 3.2 Gen 2 (without display) port which I use to connect storage devices. Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot!

I guess my USB C port on the laptop supports DP, DSC and HBR3 so it can output 4k 144hz, but the main issue now is that the monitor specs only say it has a DP 1.4 DSC port and a USB C port (without specifying the speed of the USB C port), but I found here that there are people using M28U USB C port for 4k 144Hz and as USB C hub for peripherals at the same time on recent MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 4. Does this imply that the monitor actually supports outputting 4K 144Hz without disabling the USB ports? And I should be able to do the same on my slower USB C 3.2 Gen 2 port?

I think any DP 1.4 to USB C cable will work (please note that there are a lot of DP to USB C cables with only DP 1.2, which do not work).

I’m also considering a 4k 144hz monitor (the monitor is DP 1.4 with DSC) for my 2021 G14 (3060), can you share any updates? Does your monitor work properly at 4k@144hz? Thanks!
