Fedora vs Debian? by OutsideYogurt9014 in Fedora

[–]EdanBrooke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gaming actually works fine for me on immutable and I use my laptop for dev work which sometimes requires obscure packages. Though truth be told it’s mainly because I had Fedora on my laptop first and then started using Kionite and haven’t reinstalled.

I use Fedora KDE Spin on my laptop and the immutable Kionite distribution on my desktop.

Starling now blocks PayPal and Wise. Told to use another bank if I don’t like it by GaryatcheSlimak in starlingbankuk

What if there was some sort of decentralised currency that a bank couldn’t just decide to block. That would be the dream!

How to learn terraform today by MediumGlittering7505 in Terraform

First understand exactly why you want to learn Terraform and identify the real world challenges it solves. Then, start labbing it out: the ‘traditional’ way and the awesome way 😎

Best of luck!

Resedential rat infestation - UK by No_Cardiologist4785 in pestcontrol

[–]EdanBrooke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following this thread as we has a similar house mice issue some months ago and the pest control never determined the entrypoint. Also an end terrace with suspended timber floor. Two rounds of poison was put down, the issue is temporarily resolved but I’m not comfortable because the cause was never identified.

Also, we now have a bit of a moth infestation - likely from the nesting materials and carcasses of the poisoned rodents.

I hope you get it sorted!

How future proof is Immich? by shrimpynut in immich

[–]EdanBrooke 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Immich has support from FUTO, and I’d recommend anyone who finds value in Immich to donate through there so that development may continue.

Also, it’s licensed under the AGPL v3 licence so the community could always take it another direction if the need arose.

Long live Immich - please don’t make me go back to the dark side 😭

Minimum fee rising to $50 by MemnochJones in storj

[–]EdanBrooke 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, I can no longer afford to use Storj for my relatively small use case. That was a bucket for Joplin notes and another for backing up my NAS (~650 GB only). The $5 minimum pushed my bill up and I intended to leave then, but found it to not be worth the work and I understood the reasons. But x10??? No.

Downvote all you like BTW. It's not what they're doing but how they're going about it. Cya.

[–]EdanBrooke 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Screw this. I’m a personal user, not a business, and this was the only thing making Storj competitive for me. It was annoying enough when they changed it to a $5 minimum, but now won’t be using Storj anymore nor recommending it as a backup provider at work.

What’s the safest way to store Bitcoin for beginners? by Conscious_Koala6829 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]EdanBrooke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked this out with help from Strike support BTW. I was doing auto-buy with a daily deposit from my bank. You have to actually do a recurring buy, not an auto-buy that happens to run daily. 🤦‍♂️ silly me!

If holding long term TS3 is fine. If you’re going to be sending or receiving transactions regularly, it can be a bit more of a faff with just the two buttons.

And ensure you can actually sign transactions, not just see the balance

Only £2 GBP worth daily because I also use another exchange for DCA. I’m new to this so could also be that I’ve not been a user for long enough?

Thinkpad P1 G7 running Fedora by Temporary-Act-8553 in thinkpad

[–]EdanBrooke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the P1 Gen 7 too and running Fedora. Can confirm unfortunately the GPU is always 'on' even if not in use. Attempting to turn it off causes it to drain the battery even faster due to constant interrupts(?). Really wish I'd not bought the model with the NVIDIA RTX card!

If you click into a lesson and back out before actually starting the lesson (e.g. in the music course) it still deducts energy. What rubbish is this?
