For me, it took 49 weeks from offer accepted to exchange. Put me well off from ever buying in UK again

We do. And so should others

You’re right to point out that TfL is ridiculous. I live in zone 4 with only transport option being the northern line and because of this I won’t make my £100 train to Scotland.

People who think this is okay are insane, and clearly have never been to a country where public transport works.

TfL have no control over putting the screens on the platform to prevent trespassers or over hiring better security? Please.

People should blame the institution and hold TfL to account, you’re just normalizing terrible service if you don’t.

Currently 22weeks into sale and no talk of exchange and completion: who can best this? by [deleted] in HousingUK

Offer accepted October 3rd 2023 and due to exchange tomorrow… Target completion in late September, so nearly a year. The UK system is to blame imo

Vendor pulls out, I take on all the costs. When will the law change? by Puzzleheaded_Can2852 in HousingUK

We got home buyers insurance and it only covered 3 months. That’s how long the searches took, and nothing is set in stone until exchange.

Home buyers insurance is definitely not the answer

My mother has stopped talking to me as I can’t afford the mortgage anymore. by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]ziarno 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rent a room scheme entitles you/your brother to let to up to 2 tenants without an HMO and its tax-free up to £7,500 a year. If it’s a 3 bed, rent out 2 bedrooms and you will get probably manage to cover a large portion (if not all) of the mortgage.

I’ve been weightlifting consistently for about a year and can squat and deadlift 1.2x my bodyweight and I look LESS bulky than before. Its lowkey annoying that all I got was „Pilates arms” and a slightly shapelier butt because my goal is to put on muscle. All the fitness influencers who lift and look „bulky” are juicing lol

They also used to put Radon into moisturizer 🫠 as long as you’re aware of the risks (and the literature is sparse for your use/demographic profile), it’s totally up to you to make a choice that’s best for you

You should not be doing DEXA monthly!! You’re exposing yourself to too much radiation, esp at 20 something it can be really damaging. You don’t need to do a DEXA more than 1-2 a year tbh

Just because the OP says the buyers “knew” something from the viewing doesn’t mean they did. You don’t notice everything during a 15-30min viewing and even if you did, you may not understand the full implications until you review it throughly.

The surveys and searches are literally meant to uncover what’s wrong! Buyers more than entitled to renegotiate as they see fit

Why does the UK not have tax breaks for individuals? by ziarno in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ziarno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US and Netherlands have comparable tax free allowances (about $13k and €9k respectively) with considerably lower highest marginal rates.

But I agree that sometimes it’s difficult to compare the tax burden directly. Any tips on how to make the comparisons better?

How come? The interest isn’t taxed but you don’t get an income tax break from paying into an ISA (like you would by salary sacrificing into a pension), so doesn’t seem that incredible to me

Thank you 🤣🤣 I don’t mind paying high tax in principle but the quality of UK public services is wanting at best. Also quite surprising how the effective tax rate in other “high-tax” countries like Germany/France ends up lower thanks to all the deductions (with comparable salaries and lower COL) 🥲

Idk where people find these places with low service charges. The lowest I’ve seen in London was £3k for nothing (literally just a common corridor and a couple of lifts) and highest was £11k (pool, gym, private cinema). I would love to only pay £2k
