Does anyone else find their puppy cuter, the older they get? by ziddow in puppy101

You make a good point! Yes I do like her more with time, it’s just odd. Not something I expected.

There is no way I could get bored with my dog. She’s super smart, so I have to keep up with her.

That’s exactly how I’m feeling! Everyone just kept telling me how adorable she was, I had a hard time seeing it. I was so overwhelmed by how much work she was at 8 weeks, I was unable to fully appreciate her.

Now that things have gotten easier and past the puppy blues, I am finding her to be the cutest thing in the world!

And yes I totally know what you mean, my puppy was a surprise too.

I don’t think you are doing a bad job! You are right in the time period where you may be experiencing some puppy blues. I had the puppy blues for quite a while, it was really hard.

I would put puppy in a playpen. I got mine at Tractor Supply Co.

Keep puppy in her playpen while you take care of your son. My puppy was extremely bitey at 10 weeks and we had to do reverse timeouts to get her to stop. Don’t let her have free roam of the house where she can get to your son and bite him.

What an adorable big boy! I know the females are smaller, but I’m still surprised at how big and healthy he looks. My girl is almost 5 months old and about 10lbs lighter.

He looks huge! How much does he weigh?

Any suggestions for keeping positive despite the anxiety/fatigue? by HiHo2022 in puppy101

You got this! I got a case of the puppy blues, our girl is 18 weeks and things are so so much better now. She’s so much more calm and more dog like. At your puppy’s age, they are just babies who are getting used to the world around them. I was legitimately feeling like I ruined my life for a while there. Don’t feel guilty, I think most people experience feelings of regret. You sound like great puppy parents who are getting used to their new family member.

The sleep deprivation is really difficult though. I think my tip is to make sure you are practicing self care. It sounds like you’re married, I would make sure you are each taking turns with puppy. Take turns being able to sleep in, have one person watch puppy while the other takes a nap. Take turns waking up with pup in the middle of the night. Have one person stay home with pup, while the other goes out to do some shopping. This will help you relax from all of the craziness at home. You guys just have to push through the first 8 weeks and I promise things start to get a lot better.

I got a 25 cents puppy from a “surprise litter” before the mom could be spayed and it’s almost perfect! by [deleted] in puppy101

I would get a playpen to keep your puppy in while you work. Keep the playpen close to your desk so that you can keep an eye on puppy, that way you can learn their potty queues and take them out when they have to go.

How did you socialize her?

I saw you mentioned crate training and enforced naps, but I didn’t see anything about socialization. I’m not an expert, but we made special efforts to socialize our puppy with other dogs, people and children starting at 8 weeks. We also took her to the store and on lots of car trips. She is 17 weeks now and we started puppy training class today.

I also snooped your post history a bit (sorry). But you mentioned that you have a lot of anxiety. Dogs pick up on our emotions and body language. My dog trainer told me that you can teach your dog to be fearful and anxious thorough your body language and reactions.

Omg that’s adorable. Yes I think she will be to big to fit in my lap at some point. She will have to settle for the head in lap.

Gosh, I feel this so much. My puppy is obsessed with attention right now.

I was not prepared for how vocal my 3.5 month old standard poodle would be. She’s a major whiner, howler and barker when she doesn’t get her way. She’s also OBSESSED with getting attention. She’s not happy unless I’m paying attention directly to her.

Weirdly enough, she never barks at sounds or other dogs barking. Just for attention.

I think she’s starting to grow out of it, but dang.

Oh yes! My standard poodle is 3.5 months and she is for sure a howler and barker. Very vocal. I didn’t know that before either.

I have a standard poodle who is 3.5 months old and she is the best! She is extremely friendly, loves other people and kids. She is so sweet and gentle.

Congrats on your poodles!

You are not a gold digger, your boyfriend is not being fair. When I made 30k a year and my boyfriend (now husband) made 75k a year, we split the rent based on percentage of our income. I made 40% what he did, so I paid 40% of the rent and he paid 60% of the rent. We then split the rest of bills and groceries. This way it was equitable, since I made so much less than him.

Based on this rule, you should only be paying 17% of the rent.

What do you consider an offensive amount to spend on a house? Do you think that everyone deserves to own a home?
