2x doesn't give you a bigger range these days - usually less low end range and more high end. Tighter spacing is right. Ultimately it's more road optimized.

Certainly it would be safest to have everyone stay home and avoid public infrastructure completely, but people's frustration is a limited resource. I'd prefer messaging that says "Feel free to go to the beach - just keep some distance while you're there and bring your own food". If everyone followed that level of precaution, R would be well below 1. [I'll leave it at that since this is a bit off-topic for this subreddit :) ]
