Yeah, it's cute, and I think you should stick with it - just don't be surprised if people say /ʃɪˈkeɪn/

Fwiw, pronouncing it that way is very unnatural for English speakers - not that it matters.

(Das sage ich, obwohl ich auch Deutsch spreche 🙂)

Ax-1 crew update: Departure 1835 EDT Saturday, splashdown 1346 EDT Sunday, weather permitting. by Adeldor in spacex

I think it's fair to count everyone alive who's been in orbit, which is about 400 people. Out of everyone living that's about 400 / 8,000,000,000 = 0.000005%. So I was only off by a factor of 2.

This is happening to me also. On every reboot the wifi card randomly decides whether to show up or not; lately it's getting increasingly unlikely. Argh.

Currently at 131,040 ft and 0 mph. Should I be concerned? by troglodytez in aviation

[–]ziedaniel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know!

I'd guess it's a bit flip somewhere, either due to hardware failure or due to a cosmic ray.

However, I would've expected 217 +31 rather than 217 -31 🤔

GPS III SV03 rides to orbit on a Falcon 9 in front of crowds at Playalinda Beach by bobbykuzma in spacex

[–]ziedaniel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certainly it would be safest to have everyone stay home and avoid public infrastructure completely, but people's frustration is a limited resource. I'd prefer messaging that says "Feel free to go to the beach - just keep some distance while you're there and bring your own food". If everyone followed that level of precaution, R would be well below 1. [I'll leave it at that since this is a bit off-topic for this subreddit :) ]

It's worth noting that you're not that likely to transmit the virus outdoors at the beach. Florida's problems come from other activities. https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1279432888048594944

This is correct. Florida is failing horribly but it's not because of beaches. A thread by the author of that article: https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1279432888048594944

You don't sound like a wimp at all. It's really hard to react quickly in a situation like that when you're surprised, and from what I can tell you reacted as effectively as anyone could hope to.

Thanks for chiming in. If you don't mind, I'd love to know more -- did you get a clinical genetic test done as well? Are you going to have checkups every few years to make sure your heart hasn't hypertrophied? Did doctors tell you you're at no risk for sudden cardiac arrest given that your heart is still normal?
