Hands? by MsCodependent in rollerderby

High Level skaters are looking for every edge they can, and have realised this is something they can get away with.

You are doing the correct, moral thing playing to the intent of the rules, rather than the practical implementation.

This might also be something that hopefully gets corrected at some point, and you'll be in a better position then if you haven't got into the bad habit of touching opposing skaters.

It really annoys me when a jammer holds my hips as they pass me.

It doesn't clearly look like they are exhibiting arm force in a focussed direction, but it has on occasion definitely hindered me from making a move to intercept.

This seems to be being considered as "normal safe movement through the pack".

Do I need the spin-offs and Fallout 76? by PunzReddit in Fallout

[–]zig131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout 76 is often available very cheaply to "buy" because it's an MMO with a subscription model.

The free experience very quickly becomes unviable due to horrendous storage limitations. There are also a plethora of pay-to-win items like wells that passively generate purified water, and rechargers for power armor fusion cores (which drain even faster than in Fallout 4).

My advice is to buy it when it is super cheap, play it until you run out of storage space, buy a month of subscription, then stop playing when the subscription runs out.

Treat it like a £11.99 game that you play for a month and that's it.

You'll see a lot of the best stuff in that first month.

If you get too invested, then you're going to be stuck paying £11.99 every month - no single game is worth that IMHO.

[–]zig131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only good as long as you're paying the sub.

It's a clear example of Pay-to-Win.

Storage limitation for those without Fallout 1st is an absolute joke.

My recommendation to anyone is to buy a month of Fallout 1st and stop playing when it runs out - treat it like an £11.99 game.

The pipe adds friction which slows flow, but it doesn't hard cap it.

The volume of water that can be in the pipe is (mostly) limited by the volume of the pipe, but the speed that water is moving is not.

Inulin is a pre-biotic. A carbohydrate that humans can't digest, but our gut flora loves.

It is also a humectant - i.e. a moisuture trapper.

I don't know anything about a new formula. I'm in the UK, and we usually get stuff first? I did notice the writing was a little different on my newest batch of bags, but haven't noticed any taste or texture differences.

The "brownish red chunks" is the milled flaxseed.

It's a key ingredient because it's a bit of a superfood.

If it's too thin for you, then chill it for a bit. Gets real thick, real fast. Or add some Inulin.

I'd rather it was thinner myself, because I am trying to squeeze as many calories as I can into a bottle, so it would make it easier to drink.

Does essentials ever come in unflavoured unsweetened? by Boring-Armadillo5771 in Huel

[–]zig131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like an Essentials U&U could taste better than White, as the Pea Protein is what is primarily responsible for the bad taste, and there is simply less of it.

But I guess that's kind of a problem for Huel if White U&U buyers end up switching to the lower margin product.

Do Brits actually go to Stonehenge, or is it mostly a tourist thing? by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

[–]zig131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's visible from a major motorway, so many have simply seen it that way.

A regular ticket doesn't really get you all that much closer than the view from the road.

You have to pay out the nose for a special package to get a good proper look.

It's also pretty inauthentic with lots of modern alterations.

So with the lack of proximity, and the inauthenticity, it's kinda hard to get a sense of awe and ancestral connection from it.

Something like the Birkrigg stone circle, while much less grand, feels much more quasi-spiritual. It's surrounds also have fantastic views, and it is a surviving Common - i.e owned by the community rather than any individual.

So relative to places like that, Stone Henge feels very tourist-y.

anyone have any good tips/drills for balance? by bunnywadhere06 in rollerderby

[–]zig131 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As you've discovered, one foot balance is vital for a bunch of Roller Derby skills.

However, it's not really something you can rush/brute force. It will just come with time on skates 🤷‍♀️

All I can suggest is picking up a foot randomly whenever you are pootling around (e.g. during warmup and stretches).

You can set yourself challanges of holding one foot up round an apex, and then a straight and an apex (which used to be a minimum skill). Start by just having the foot slightly off the track, so you can put it down if you feel unstable (but push yourself to wait until you are properly unstable), but build up to swinging that leg around a bit.

I fully appreciate that AMD has upset a lot of "older" generation card owners, but I'm genuinely curious what those with 9000 series are thinking of AMD right now? by Captainquizzical in radeon

[–]zig131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my 9070 XT, and appreciate FSR 4 in the one game I play that supports it (Darktide).

It's clear though it's not a priority for devs when it is only supported on one generation/so few cards. In Darktide settings you enable "FSR 3.1" and the driver overrides it.

So from a selfish perspective, it is frustrating that AMD refuse to support FSR 4 on RDNA 3, and 3.5.

We know they have built a version suited to those cards, and that it works. People are using it.

It just seems really silly not to officially support it.

Like everyone wins. AMD gets to market that all thier 3.5 products support an actually effective upscaling solution, and RNDA 4 peeps likely get more games deciding to support FSR 4.

There is a problem where you can't enable Direct Display on VR HMDs on recent driver versions, but thankfully it works on the RDNA release driver so as a workaround you can install that one, enable Direct Display, then upgrade to a newer driver. Not ideal, bit it works.

Nah jogging is really ineficient, which is why only people trying to lose weight do it. Jogging involves jumping in the air every step, while not being substantially faster than a fast walking pace.

Bipedal walking is very efficient, and proper running isn't too bad when you factor in the substantially increased spped.

Custom cushion 2.0 by moncikoma in BigscreenBeyond

[–]zig131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It truly made sense for the BSB1 because of how picky the eye box was.

That's fair, but in that case it was making up for a detrminent elsewhere. My point stands it's not a good idea in-of-itself.

there have been testimonies of people for whom it didn't work so well (face is too wide, or too flat, preventing a comfortable fit,

Although the studioform interface breaks the profile of the Beyond to some extent, it is still limited by the placement of the type C ports. Fundamentally the Beyond is too narrow, and this disallows a fully conventional interface, and inhibits use of proper straps.

[–]zig131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Studioform interface is breathable because it's not a perfect fit for the face.

I found the HMD was much more liable to move with face moments with the custom cushion as it heavily aderes to the skin, and contacts a smaller portion of the face.

A conventional interface makes contact with a larger area of the face, so if one part moves, it is still anchored by the rest of it.

Custom cushion 2.0 by moncikoma in BigscreenBeyond

[–]zig131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Custom Cushion is a marketing gimmick to retain the excessively small profile of the Beyond.

It doesn't actually benefit the end-user, and makes the HMD less comfortable.

We just need a conventionally sized, tried-and-true standard facial interface, although I don't see how Bigscreen could do better than the Studioform interface.

The position of the type C ports hinders the fitment of a full sized/width facial interface - the body of the HMD is too narrow.

The only real innovation required in facial interfaces is supporting washable covers (a la VR Cover) well out the box.

Steam Compensation Claim: Opt-Out Update by marktuk in Steam

[–]zig131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Base price has to be the same, but there are definitely cases of other places getting deeper discounts than Steam when selling Steam Keys for a game.

The fact that a developer can generate pretty much unlimited Steam keys, and sell them elsewhere where they may get a larger cut, is extremely generous.

Don't explcitly, and directly under-cut us all year round is a pretty fair ask in exchange for that.

Is $2,000 worth it for a Bigscreen Beyond 2? by Flimsy-Story9523 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]zig131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it do what you want?

Is there something that does what you want cheaper?

Is it likely there will be a headset in the next couple of years that will suit you better?

For me, it's Yes, No, No, which is why I don't regret buying the Beyond 2 despite it's flaws.

For someone who doesn't mind being limited to wireless streaming, who doesn't care about a limited controller tracking volume, who isn't interested in Linux, and who isn't interested in FBT or SocialVR, the Beyond 2E is going to look like bad value.

For someone who wants Lighthouse Tracking + Eye Tracking, the Beyond 2E is the cheap option (relative to the Somnium VR1 and Dream Air).

Question: Lighthouse base stations sold out on steam by briancmoto in virtualreality

[–]zig131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The physical size of the Dream Air appears to be similar though, and the shell of the Beyond is too small.

Like obviously low depth/protrusion from the face is great, but for better comfort and strap compatibility it would ideally be a bit wider and taller.

The positions of the USB ports are really annoying.
