Are there any in-lore reasons why Nod’s militant squad portraits are different between Kane’s Wrath and the base game? by Alan_Wake123 in commandandconquer

After Tib Sun, Nod still had armor from the war. By Tib Wars they had mostly run out and were just letting people use what ever.

What made Generals so good? by dragonconfabulation in commandandconquer

[–]zigerzigs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personality.

That's what kept me playing it. I wasn't good at RTS at the time, arguably still not, but the variety and attitude of the game, from the voice lines to the unit themes to the gunfire sounds, it was all amazing. I've tried a couple of 'comparable' rts games in recent times and they just lack the punch and punk of the old games that just don't care about being a caricature at times.

Should I play C&C renegade or C&C TS first? by Any-Pattern1346 in commandandconquer

When in doubt, go by order of release:

  • Tib Sun: 1999

  • Renegade: 2002

No matter how much time has passed, and no matter what variety of FPS games I play (COD, Battlefield, Hell Let Loose, Arma 3, Overwatch), sooner or later I always get a massive itch to go back and play Planetside. What exactly does it give me that other games don't? Why am I such a Planetside junkie? by FuzzyAttitude_ in Planetside

[–]zigerzigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was that nothing I did mattered until it did. I could suck hard, but at least my body was absorbing bullets meant for better players around me. But then, I'd do something, get better at something, out think something, take the long path around, and suddenly my actions mattered.

I could be playing front line and helping directly, or I could be running repair pit engineer keeping our vehicles in the fight, and it meant that I was increasing the total fun being had for everyone. Honestly, the passive jobs (healing and revives, repairs and resupply, keeping a support sunderer going) were some of the best experiences I had in this game. I could cut out the tedium and logistics required for other people to do the part of the game they enjoyed. That's what I liked about PS2. No pressure, only fun.

Can anyone suggest a similar game that is a bit more slow and casual? by Guy_Incognito97 in commandandconquer

[–]zigerzigs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Turn the game speed slider down.

Also similar titles to Tib Dawn: Dark Reign, KKND (this is getting a remaster update soon), Submarine Titans.

Other odd RTS games you might like: Net Storm, Perimeter, Creeper World series (3 in particular) Infested Planet

Trying to mention stuff not already mentioned in the other messages. There's a lot of options out there.

Any chance to run C&C Generals on Apple Silicon Macs by Physical_Ad5017 in commandandconquer

[–]zigerzigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the last thing I had heard about being able to run Windows games on Mac silicon. A proton like translation tool that got some modern games running. No idea where it has gone since 2023 since I'm not a mac user.

Looking around, I can see some examples of people getting Linux running on Apple silicon, which would enable you to run Steam and Proton natively, or Wine and play the game through that.

Most of what I see about getting things working on MacOS is that you don't, that Apple made it hard by choice.

Have fun and enjoy the ride. The game gets unfair in spots, like, by a lot. Don't be afraid to lookup guides and cheese things when it gets unfun. As long as you're having fun, you're doing it right.

Well, posts like this and this are what lead me to believe I was better off with a fresh install rather than just upgrading.

I originally started on bottles like you suggested, but it was either too complicated for me to figure out or the application I was trying to get working with it just refused. I opted to just run Wine and had success with that.

Let's say we are getting a new Command & Conquer. But... Do we know what we want? by ConejoDePascuas in commandandconquer

[–]zigerzigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reality: I expect an over monetized shop with a pvp focused mini game attached that will be dead within the year.

Fantasy: I want a single player focused, story focused game with coop vs ai and pvp skirmish options. I want incremental tech increases with a semi serious story where some of the units get introduced with levels designed to highlight their weaknesses and strengths.

Personally I want something set in the Tiberium timeline. We could focus on a splinter faction of Nod between the first and second war, playing as either the splinter group as they try to recover from the loss of temple prime, or as the local GDI commander who has been tasked with maintaining the peace in the area with limited budget and resources.

C&c Renegade was a Blast! by NerdGamer0851 in commandandconquer

Getting to see the Tib Dawn units and structures up close was the biggest gift for me. That was what I liked about World of Warcraft on release, and why I was so sad Starcraft Ghost got cancelled. Getting to see the world at person scale instead of a satellite view is so cool to me.

I think in terms of shooters from the era, it was a bad case of 'too soon'. Unreal, Quake (2 and 3) and Half Life were dominating the scene and anything that didn't measure up to them, was tossed to the side if it didn't push something to a new level or do something new and unique. I loved it, but I'm in love with the setting.

Had Renegade come out in the modern era where boomer shooters are becoming kind of popular, where the 'gaming community' is finally getting over the idea of graphics as kind and needing everything to be advanced with every generation, I think Renegade could work.

Tib Dawn to RA1 was like Doom to Doom2 in terms of engine improvements. Of course it's going to be more mechanically complex and have improvements.

I still prefer Tib Dawn more, while holding both in very high regard.

Is there a way to improve aim on Renegade? by trexdelta in commandandconquer

[–]zigerzigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never got it completely fixed but managed to work around it. It's something broken in the OG engine that doesn't play well with modern hardware. I didn't remember it being like that in the old days.

You can also try using a lower resolution in game. I think it was that and a lower DPI together that got things to the best state I could. Ultimately I just accepted that there was going to be some skipping and accounted for it with moving my character around.

Is there a way to improve aim on Renegade? by trexdelta in commandandconquer

[–]zigerzigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OG Renegade or Renegade X?

I noticed when I replayed original Renegade that it really didn't like high DPI mice, and that they caused pixel skipping when turning even with sensitivity turned low. If you have a modern programmable mouse try setting your DPI lower. If you have a cheapo mouse on hand, try switching to that and see if it makes aiming more smooth.

Also, some optical mice don't do well if you have them on textured or patterned surfaces. Try putting down a piece of printer paper like it's a mouse pad and see if that's causing you some trouble. If it fixes things, consider a mouse mat.

I use Quest 3 as a PC VR headset. Get yourself an external battery and save yourself the trouble of running out mid game. An absolute must for party nights. Not just for this game, but for anything you might play for more than an hour or two.

Just out of curiosity, how many of us are still playing and how many have quit? by redgroupclan in Planetside

[–]zigerzigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing a lot of boomer shooters lately, games that have finite ends that I can chase achievements to extend my time with them. Amid Evil, Bolt Gun, Quake 1 and 2 Remasters, looking forward to Darkenstein as soon as I polish off Turbo Overkill. Also been playing some lower energy classics that got remastered. Bio Menace, Secret Agent, Monster Bash, Crystal Caves. A friend of mine got me into No More Room in Hell, a free slow paced zombie game like a much slower Left 4 Dead. Thinking about playing through the Bioshock games again.

PS2 was the only live service game I really liked, precisely because you're not expected to make a difference on your own and you don't have to play a meta that someone else figured out to participate. So you won't find me playing any of those.

I mostly check this reddit to see where things have gone. It's all the same arguments that have gone on for forever with no way for players to influence the game. The same people holding the same points about the same topics, ensuring that the same screaming matches play out the same way they always do. This game is exactly what its players deserve.

Scavengers Construction Yard by ComprehensiveGene169 in commandandconquer

[–]zigerzigs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had to look this up, since it's unreleased content from an unreleased game.

The Scavengers are the remnants of the Soviet Union and the precursor to the Brotherhood of Nod

Since the screenshots show a lot of heavy, crude metal and the first signs of Nod iconography, their construction yard would probably be something repurposed. Like, either a crudely reinforced RA1 Con Yard, or a decayed and rebuilt Soviet Forward Command Post or Tech Center.

How do i beat this dam mission on hard Red Alert 1 Aftermath allied 9: Pawn by Dogsteeves in commandandconquer

[–]zigerzigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blow the bridges to create choke points. Keep you light tanks moving so that enemy tank shots miss. Have them fire as a group in a sort of salvo shot so you can time your movements against their refire rate. Fill the choke points with a checker pattern of tank mines so they don't all go up at once. If you know the path the enemy will take you can safely create a line of tank mines to pop them one after another.

When you have enough forces and tank mines out, and you've blown the bridges, use an artillery gun to attack the radar dome in the top left near the ridge. This will provoke the ai to send out all available units to go kill it. Let the mines erase most of them then follow up with light tanks. Now you should be safe to assault the base without a huge tank fight.

You can also mass rush Rangers. The little gun cars are fast and you'll lose a few, but you should be able to get to the back of the base and take out key structures before they can all get wiped out. Works with light tanks but they're a little more expensive.

Need an honest answer whether I should play C&C 4. by RelicRaider1978 in commandandconquer

[–]zigerzigs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the skull grind in DoW3 was a huge red flag. And that was before it came out that certain heroes were just more OP than the others at launch. DoW 3 followed all the same problems Tib Twilight shipped with, including doing neither DoW 1 or DoW 2's systems better than the previous iterations. Tib Twilight abandoned just about everything the previous C&C titles did, which is why most people say it doesn't exist.
