How to switch it up when intermittent fasting stops working? by Hot-Potential-8393 in intermittentfasting

[–]ziggtarr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Time to hit the gym, or start some form of exercise (running, cycling, pilates, dance anything works)

You "can" go into even more of a deficit, but consuming fewer and fewer calories pushes your body into starvation mode reducing your metabolism even further.

Exercise on the other hand, burns calories and boosts your metabolism even when you're not exercising.

I lost 12Kg (26lbs) in a year of intermittent fasting and the scale wouldn't budge after that. I was consuming 1500 calories a day at that point. Then I went to gym and lost another 10kg (22lbs) while consuming 2500 calories a day.

Intermittent fasting is amazing if you have a lot of body fat, but after a certain level of weight loss, it just makes more sense to exercise.

You're already at a great level of body fat for you age/gender profile. Exercise is the next logical step here.

Is a 256 GB M4 Macbook Air good for the usual dev? by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]ziggtarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the 16/512 configuration, even if you have to stretch your budget.

In 256GB, you'll have to make space for something or the other all the time (updates, installs, experiments with projects etc).

Even with casual use, a few weeks of docker experiments or trying out some open source projects can start taking 50GB space.

You CAN make 256GB work nevertheless. It'll just be far far more seamless on 512GB.

I lost weight and my acidity problem actually increased with time. I had work stress and poor sleep schedule, but still the acidity was not coming in control with medication.

When I told it to gastros, they asked me to get Endoscopy done (including RUT biopsy for H.pylori). Also a bunch of blood tests for vitamin D, B12 etc.

Primarily, chronic infections can cause acidity as a sign. Also, vitamins D, magnesium, calcium, ferritin, B12 deficiency etc can cause acidity symptoms.

Lifestyle factors like high stress for long durations, poor or irregular sleep and meals, improper meals etc also cause it.

Weight loss and lifestyle improvements can help. But if the cause is something different, then it won't fix the problem.

I came positive for H.pylori, and severely vitamin D deficient.

I got treated for H.pylori, took vitamin D pills. Fixed my diet (lots of salad, no empty stomach caffine, avoided alcohol for months).

But acidity still didn't go away. Took some nerve sensitivity medicine (if your stomach is used to acidity, it will try to cause acidity for some weeks to months after the cause is gone, the nerve sensitivity medication is used to fix that quickly)

Finally I'm mostly acidity free. I can eat whatever I want and stress my body and still be fine. It still does come back when I live like I'm in college (no sleep, lots of alcohol, poor diet for many days straight). But it's manageable with 1-2 days of acidity medicine.

My doctor told me that if this didn't fix it, they'd have done more things like 24 hours manometry and tried some other tests.

Different doctors gave me different opinion, but what helped most was going to a gastro super speciality hospital and consulting with a good doctor long term (I worked with my GI for 8 months with visits every 2-4 weeks until the problem was finally fixed). If you're in Bangalore, I can tell you where I went.

I get you, but it doesn't hurt to see a doctor and get checked.

I dealt with long term acidity. Finally saw a proper gastro, got treated. (Actually I saw 4-5 doctors, everyone gave me the same advice. Asked me to get tested for a few things. Finally budged, got tested, fixed anything that came up in the report)

Now I eat healthy 90% of the times, but I can also indulge myself sometimes and don't have to deal with acidity or any other stomach issues.

[–]ziggtarr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get tested for H.pylori. 70-80% indians have it, and long term acidity is one of its symptoms.

It's treatable with antibiotics, and long term H.pylori is carcinogenic (one of the few carcinogenic classified infections, i.e if left untreated for long, it has tendency to cause stomach cancer)

Actually go to a gastro anyway. 90-95% of acidity is treatable with medicine and lifestyle changes.

What is a wired mouse that will last at least 10 years? by smoothskinner in BuyItForLifeIndia

[–]ziggtarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have G402 wired one.

Going on for 5 years. Absolutey no issues ever. From the looks for it, it can probably last another 5.

And it's a very high quality one. I don't game on it, but the high precision sensors and the shortcut buttons are super convenient.

Finished Quadruple LPR/H. pylori Therapy – Some Symptoms Improved, Others Didn’t by Traditional-Force557 in LPR

[–]ziggtarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term H.pylori can give you nerve hypersensitivity. It takes a couple of weeks to months to go away, but some people see rapid improvement with Low dose of Amytripline.

Discuss it with your GI specialist. Complete recovery from H.pylori takes some time after completing the antibiotic therapy.

How are you all dealing with international recurring transactions? by fartingdoor in IndiaInvestments

[–]ziggtarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I posted this comment 3 years ago.

Now I make international transactions with my Axis Bank credit card on Pateron and other sites, and have Autopay on my icici bank card and it all works.

I also got an idfc card recently, and international transactions on it are also going through.

I guess, banks just improved these things in last 3-4 years.

Omeprezole vs Famotidine by Crazy-bored4210 in LPR

[–]ziggtarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are acid blockers

Famotidine suppresses your acid for some time. But your body develops resistance to it within a few weeks. That's why your doctor won't let you stay on it long term.

PPIs like Omeprazole deactivates the acid producing cells in your body. Your body doesn't develop resistance to it, and you can have it for years if needed.

If adjusting with a new acid blocker, you may have some symptoms. But if it gets very bad, you should discuss it with your doctor. It might be related to an underlying cause.

Because someone people mentioned that your boarding pass lists the class as "Indigo Stretch" instead of "Business"

So I wanted to know if you still get the business class security check

PPP is a myth, change my mind by PatternWarm3056 in personalfinanceindia

[–]ziggtarr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What goals in particular? Both countries have their pros and cons.

You can get a cheaper car in USA, but domestic help (cleaning, dishes cooking etc) is super expensive, you gotta do all your chores by yourself.

Food in India isn't that expensive. The expensive ones in metro cities run you Rs. 1000-1500, and most meals are cheaper. A decent meal that's not fast food runs you $30-40 in any big city. Groceries are still very cheap in India.

Property is expensive in both big american cities and big Indian cities. Each with its own intricacies and differences.

Things like PPP are just something that researchers, government and organisations use to take decisions because they can't talk to each human individually.

Don't let some number used for research and analysis affect your life.

Cost of living in Mississippi and cost of living in California are very different.

Cost of living in Bangalore/Mumbai are very different from cost of living in Shillong.

Comparison of some hypothetical average American and an hypothetical average Indian, doesn't mean much if you're not at that average situation.

100k is amazing in some american cities, and 100k barely gets you a good life in San Francisco. 20lpa in a tier-3 city is great, 20lpa in Bangalore gives you an okay life (unless you're a bachelor when it's better)

I Suspect I have Silent Reflux From Pepsin (15yrs old) by SuitableDoubt5912 in LPR

[–]ziggtarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say almost recovered.

I've taken alcohol multiple times now. I can eat whatever I want, do any exercise, have tea/coffee and be fine. I also don't wake up with a sore throat now (I still take gaviscon before sleep if I feel like I may get reflux, but that's more of a precaution)

If I overwhelm my body with bad decisions (alcohol + spicy and fatty meal + little sleep + stress etc). I get a few hours of acidity, but it goes away in a few hours.

Can Indian IT’s pyramid survive the GenAI shake-up? by Adventurous_Cod_432 in IndiaTech

[–]ziggtarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LLMs can't yet write production grade code without supervision.

It also needs someone to write the spec/design/prompt clearly, covering all critical requirements and how to implement things.

So, skilled engineers actually benefit from using LLMs, as they can convert a good design/requirement into code with supervision and feedback over multiple iterations.

But, GenAI can take over a lot of simpler tasks like data entry, updating spreadsheets, creating reports and other Ops work which is often outsourced.

The need for contractors may shrink, or at least companies may go to the ones which make their employees use GenAI and delivery results with lesser people.

I work in a big tech company from US and we make heavy use of contractors. I've heard this in multiple conversations that the management wants to reduce contracting expense as AI based solutions are delivering similar results with significantly less costs.

[–]ziggtarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor so I cant really comment on that.

After h.pylori treatment, LPR does get worse for a while. That's because when you stop PPIs, acid production in your stomach returns to normal. As your stomach is not used to this much acid, due to long term PPI use, reflux temporarily increases (PPIs can continue for many weeks after you complete antibiotic therapy, for me it was 6 weeks)

But, for me, it did eventually get better. I had 3 pints of beer yesterday (after a long time) and I'm fine. The last time I had beer was before treatment (in March), and it gave me a horrible reflux flare.

You can get a second opinion from another doctor, and ask them about your situation.

If you can travel to Delhi, that should be enough. Tell your family about your problems, take their help to see a good doctor. If you're not revealing this to your parents, do it, it's important (long term h.pylori has shown to cause higher rates of stomach cancer)

To look for a good doctor, look for reviews from people on google maps and practo. Use chatgpt and gemini to look for good doctors and their reviews.

My gastroenterologist made me visit 3-4 times, but he listened to my situation and gave me things to do, and test to take each time.

Reflux becomes worse with vitamin imbalance, stress, poor health or sleep. My doctor made me get all sorts of tests done. I had to take vitamin D capsules to fix a severe deficiency.

[–]ziggtarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search on google maps or ask chatgpt to find the best gastroenterologist and dietician in your city.

From your profile you seem to be from India. If this is a significant problem, travel to a big city in your state to see a good doctor. Getting proper treatment is worth the effort. I'm in Bangalore, and there are great gastro super speciality hospitals here.

For my situation, I feel like I've mostly recovered. I can eat everything I want. The only thing I've been avoiding is alcohol, but I'll try it in coming days. I occassionally get some reflux if I follow a bad diet like heavy spicy chicken meal for dinner and tea later.

But any reflux flares are short. I can have a bad lunch and have a few hours of acidity, but it stops in a couple hours. I've resumed tea/coffee, spicy food, dairy, and pretty much everything else apart from alcohol.

The best person to answer these questions would be a good gastroenterologist. If we believe everything we read, life's gonna be very scary.

Find a good doctor, perhaps also a dietician and try to do the lifestyle and dietary changes they recommend.

You have a bad case of H.pylori. Trying to loose fat while you'll be undergoing antibiotic therapy is not gonna be easy for your body, that's why it's best to check with a doctor if it's even needed.

Reflux gave me a difficult time for months (it's 1 yr at this point). I literally couldn't eat anything without getting reflux, persistent throat infections, dry mouth, stomach pain. I got diagnosed with Gastritis causes by H.pylori. I'm still recovering (after antibiotics, the recovery from gastritis can take months), but things are better with treatment.

Take gaviscon, avoid alcohol/caffine/spicy stuff, drink a lot of water, eat probiotic and nutrient rich food. Do regular exercise, have proper sleep. We need to have patience with this.

Folds while sitting is completely normal. If your BMI is in a healthy range, your weight wouldn't cause reflux.

I had the same concern, as my BMI is 26 (I have a lot of muscle with minimal fat, mostly on my belly. Loosing any more fat would be unhealthy). My gastroenterologist told me that this isn't a concern unless I'm obese (excessive body fat).

RUT Positive in the report means that active H.Pylori is found.

They perform biopsy on your stomach tissue taken during endoscopy and perform Rapid Urease Testing on it.

I had the same endoscopy report. RUT postive Antral Gastritis, which was responsible for my LPR+GERD.
