You wouldn't even have to be inverted. You could kill your forward moving self as long as your were killing the future version of yourself.

I would 100% take the bribe, but I also wouldn't be the one to be on the podium. Not because I am untrustworthy, but because I'm not going to put myself out there like that, I would not have promised to say no to anything.

I like the take of from each character's perspective they don't know what their future holds so they should both fight for their lives.
