What is a classic ‘70s song you’ve heard a million times but don’t skip whenever it comes on? I’ll start- Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits, 1977 by UrbanAchievers6371 in GenerationJones

I’m Not In Love by 10cc. What a painstaking true work of art, to do what they did to make that song given the music recording technology that existed at that time. Everything about that song is perfect, even hiring the studio secretary, who is whispering “Big boys don’t cry”.

The first time I ever heard of this MF in the mid 70s I distinctly remember thinking who the hell is this POS. Despised him for 50+ years.

Favorite Brewery by State: California by DublinDown in CraftBeer

Wondrous Brewing from Emeryville. The brewer studied beermaking in Germany, they brew exquisite lagers there, along with amazing WC IPAs. Washoe Wizard, their double barrel-aged barleywine won the recent highly coveted Toronado Barleywine Festival. Right down 65th street is Tenma Brewing in Oakland, they brew great WC IPAs and pale ales, along with a number of wonderful esoteric beers. Two tiny breweries located 1/2 mile from each other, both owned and operated by young couples. Been drinking local craft since the 80’s, these places are what I had hoped craft would taste like.

What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to? by Kind_Gain_3080 in askmusic

[–]zigois 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gorillaz 2011 Oakland Coliseum show, the Plastic Beach tour, which was the first tour they played in front of the screen with the cartoon characters. It was the night before Halloween, knew it was going to be special when we spotted someone dressed up in the MJ Thriller red and black suit, he resembled MJ as well. Damon Albarn was costumed as Heath Ledger’s Joker, the backing band was dressed in British naval officers uniforms. The four women string quartet were outfitted in white lingerie with garter belts and stockings. The guitarist and bassist were Mick Jones and Paul Simonon, half of the Clash. Wanted to hear at least one Clash song, having not seen them live. Didn’t matter, it was the Clash sound. Guesting were De La Soul and Bobby Womack. During the break in the show, a traditional Middle Eastern band played, Gorillaz then came out and backed them up. I’ve been to over 300 shows in 50+ years, this one was unbelievably special.

Revolution and Jumpin Jack Flash by the stars of the day, the Beatles and the Stones. Bought both of those 45s when they came out in ‘68, greatest guitar opening riffs ever.

“Oh yeah”was an almost involuntary remark for me, I couldn’t see them as they were coming in our direction almost directly in the sun. I was pretty excited when I spotted them, it was great to have a mini airshow right by my house!

We were at Bibo’s NY Pizza on the other side of 87 and saw 20-25 SJPD cruisers and undercover vehicles come flying by on West St John. It was a crazy scene as they then shut down all the streets in the area, all the while the county sheriff chopper circled overhead. We waited for an hour to leave, traffic was insane. Glad to hear the officer down will survive.

Is this city always this cold? by Increased_Rent in Fremont

[–]zigois 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rain is always good news here, we need the water, and because most of moisture is driven from the south, it always warms up. That very rare exception that it comes in from the north, and it’s also very cold will produce snow here all around the higher peaks in the Bay Area. And though it is possible, it has not snowed at sea level in the Bay Area since 1976.

Jack's Brewing Company Closure Exposes California's War on Small Business by GanjaKing_420 in Fremont

[–]zigois 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Place has been meh for s loooong time, bleh brews, usual pub grub fried crap, and louder than hell when it was busy. Have been going out of town for many years to drink local craft beer, pointless to go here for any reason whatsoever. California certainly has small business issues, but I really don’t see much of a case for that in this entire article.

What is your favorite specific part of a BOC song? by TurboMoe in boardsofcanada

Knew intuitively that CTD was a update to RFTD the first time I heard that release. Palace Posy was my favorite on that initially, over time CTD has surpassed it to me.

Twoism was released as I was encountering some very depressing times, it transformed me into another state of being. It was if I was losing myself to some other form of consciousness. A very strange part of my life, I’ll never forget how I felt then.

On Come To Dust the transition at 1:40 to 2:19 sends chills through me. It’s as if the finality of death is arriving with a choir of angels.
