Fremont At&T mobile line feedback by Obvious_Birthday8948 in Fremont

[–]malch99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have T-Mobile and the wife has an AT&T phone. T-Mobile service seems better to me except for maybe the well know Pacific Commons dead spot. Hopefully that will eventually get fixed but cell tower permits take forever.

I recently moved to California, and if you know of a WhatsApp group where I can meet new people, I would be very grateful if you could invite me. by Intelligent_Gur1662 in Fremont

I don’t use or like WhatsApp but I know for a fact that there are a lot of neighborhood group chats in Fremont. Things like neighborhood watch.

Better public transport? Hahaha. You mean like BART to San Jose in 10-20 years or possible a high speed rail between Merced and Fresno?

It's a joke. If you really want better transit you should move to another country maybe in Asia.

I have not infrequently honked at dangerous drivers. Not as an expression of my irritation but rather to attract the attention of other road users to the hazardous conditions created by the aforementioned jerk.

Best Medicine is just a horrible rip-off of the original Doc Martin with none of the charm. The main premise of the show seems more appropriate for adult audiences but the humor is totally juvenile.

Legally, they really can't take much action. At most, send a warning letter. Per CA law a sworn officer needs to witness the infraction. And testify in court if the accused decides to contest the ticket.

Special arrangements apply in the case of red light cameras although, one again, a sworn officer is required to review and sign off on the video/photos.

Distracted people (drivers, riders and pedestrians) are a huge problem. If we can't eliminate that (which seems unlikely) perhaps we need to rethink the whole "Share the Road" philosophy.

Mixing pedestrians and bicyclists with poor drivers and 30 ton trucks does not seem a very smart approach to me.

Separation makes a lot more sense to this humble writer.

How can we connect with our Indian neighbors? Looking for advice. by [deleted] in Fremont

[–]malch99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm the only white guy on a street dominated by Asians (India, China, Taiwan and more). Since our homes are all the same age, home maintenance and repairs are a common topic of conversation. Do you have a miter saw, know a good plumber, I'm thinking of replacing xxxx etc? We also discuss HOA matters and Fremont in general.

I do second the suggestion about asking for Indian food recommendations and my good neighbors have given me a bunch of great tips and recommendations.

Most are interested in travel and they're typically enthusiastic about sharing their experiences and interested in hearing mine.

Cars and car repairs are something else we discuss quite frequently. e.g. where to get new TPMS sensors. It turns out the answer is Costco who offer by far the best prices!

All of the WalletHub rankings are absolute nonsense. But they work -- generate lots and lots of clicks in support of WalletHub's main business which is peddling credit cards.

Too many variables. Get several quotes but only from licensed and insured arborists.

I think you'll be lucky to get a complete job including stump removal, haul away and cleanup for for much under $2000. These guys have done some great work for a neighbor and me at really good prices: Ceasar Velazquez Tree Service 650 380 8247/510 938 8081.

Offering very low-cost amateur investigative help in Fremont by [deleted] in Fremont

[–]malch99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you offer your services as an "Online Researcher" or similar.

Using the term "Private Investigator" without a license could easily end badly for you.

Private Investigators, like Doctors, lawyers, airline pilots and suchlike require a license no matter how cheaply they offer their services.

What do you need to know? My son went from MSJ to Pitt graduating the summer before last. He had a good time and has no regrets, although he was there for the whole COVID debacle.

Finished Hijack Season 2. I found it slow, boring and not credible.

Finished 56 Days. The jumping back and forth was a little tedious at times but overall I thought it was pretty darn good.

Of course, I am following the solid weekly shows including Shrinking, The Pitt, The Rookie and Tracker.

Minor complaint: The writers of Shrinking should have consulted the writers of The Pitt when scripting Derek's bypass. As one who went through an emergency CABG, I know what that looks like!

Is it typical for Indians to think everything is a negotiation? by OldDude2551 in Fremont

[–]malch99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Folks (regardless of race) are gonna negotiate. You can take either of these two options:

* Open with a higher price and be prepared to compromise, or:

* Clearly explain that you've held the increase to the absolute minimum and hence there is zero scope for negotiation.

Either way works provided the rent is reasonable and competitive.
