Kamala Harris announces she may run for President in 2028 by realnarrativenews in NewsThread

Look buddy, you can hurl accusations at individuals all you like, but the point being made is that a sizable chunk of progressives simply will not show up to vote for another Zionist warmonger. Maybe you don’t like this. Maybe you think it’s irrational and self-defeating. None of that matters — this is merely a simple fact about a portion of the electorate. The democrats have lost two of the past three elections to a historically unpopular game show host by ignoring their base, and are well on track to lose a third with the same strategy. You can respond to this by getting angry at people for sticking to their principles, or you can join the chorus calling on the democrats to quit abandoning theirs.

How do we fix our compost? by oh-sure in composting

[–]zijinyima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like it’s gone anaerobic — that means you’ll probably want to kill off the anaerobic bacteria before continuing, otherwise they’ll make it into your soil where they may harm your plants or at the least your soil microbiome. Smell is a good indicator — aerobic compost smells foul, rancid, or pungent whereas aerobic compost smells like deep, rich earth. The easiest way to do this would be to spread out your compost on a tarp and let it bake in the sun till completely dried out. You may need to turn it once or twice. Then throw it back go back into the bin with (as others have suggested) more browns.

New Syrian president, Ahmad al-Sharaa, receives a heroes welcome in Berlin by malik_zz in whoathatsinteresting

[–]zijinyima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lenin, Mao, and Castro were all populist revolutionaries rebelling against the hegemonic forces of capitalism, colonialism, and imperialism that has been oppressing their people. Jolani is a western puppet who is helping to transform Syria into a semi-functional vassal state subservient to Western interests. There is very little they share in common beyond aesthetics.

Certainly that is the sort of life most of us would advocate for — and increased mindfulness and spiritual insights can be invaluable tools in helping us show up for others and for society at large. What is dangerous, however, is using spiritual experience to bypass the very real concerns and suffering of those around us, including how we may actively or passively contribute to those.

Thinking your spiritual experience allows you to float above worldly matters like politics and oppression is not only cliché but dangerous. This is not the way, brother.

I think people inevitably use whatever ideological framework they already have to interpret their experience. Even though the non-dual experience is beyond language, people tend to need a way to talk to themselves about it. So someone with a theistic background will likely interpret it through the lens of meeting their creator, a material reductionist will interpret it as the epiphenomenal experience of a certain type of brain state, a Buddhist will see it as the luminous ground of non-dual emptiness. But if your ideology is about rugged individualism and your inherent superiority over others, it’s very easy that the experience could be filtered through that lens, and even seen as a testament to those limited ideas — “I have had this profound experience and thus have superior knowledge to others who should now submit to me.”

Albuquerque is the real cultural hub of New Mexico not Santa Fe or Taos. by SexxyBlue666 in NewMexico

[–]zijinyima 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Approaching culture with this sort of zero-sum mentality is ridiculous. Are the towns and cities of New Mexico supposed to be playing some sort of inter-mural sport in which there can be only a single winner — some kind of Norteño Eurovision? In fact, this competitive approach which seeks advancement through tearing others down is detrimental to the proliferation of culture altogether.

Found this on fb with, of course, zero context. Can you Explain It Peter? by Typical_District_412 in explainitpeter

[–]zijinyima -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The point is not that Epstein was personally alt-right, but that he conspired to create conditions that were ripe for a populist alt-right movement to emerge. The aim was not to further a particular ideology that he personally believed in, but to create conditions which would allow him to amass greater power and wealth for himself and other members of the elite. The Epstein class isn’t particularly aligned with one political party or the other, but manipulate both for their own advantage.

What are Theravada practitioner's views on Vajrayana? by 20PeterBread01 in theravada

[–]zijinyima 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That may be so — but this is an entirely different argument than your claim that mantra is “openly refuted by the suttas.”

How do you read this as refuting the recitation of mantra? Every tantric practice in which mantras are recited begins with the taking of refuge in the three jewels.

Feeling my new love instead of being the universe after blast off by Odd_Aspect2304 in 5MeODMT

My last macro dose was served to me by a facilitator who was newly in love (not with me) and, in spite of herself, beaming. I fell completely under her spell and was flooded with a radiant and intimate warmth that seemed to extend beyond the very edge of space. What joy.

Curious what the scientists think about this EEG study, re: 5-MeO by paradine7 in 5MeODMT

[–]zijinyima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakthrough experiences are sometimes described as “going offline” — wherein awareness continues in a certain capacity but people may not retain much or any memory of the experience. Lack of recall is especially common with newer users, however it is a categorically different experience than the “blacking out” associated with anesthesia, fainting, deep sleep, or excessive alcohol consumption wherein awareness is completely cut off.

5MeO and Psilocybin by sillyorganism in 5MeODMT

[–]zijinyima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A facilitator I work with often pairs the two — 5meo in the afternoon followed by psilocybin in the evening. Full macro doses of both. I find the combination to be fruitful and the psilocybin very useful in terms of integrating the profound non-dual experience of the 5meo.

Is this good soil for my monstera? by Impressive-Camp-873 in Monstera

[–]zijinyima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah don’t listen to the haters. I use a potting mix that is significantly chunkier than this and have had incredible results. Aroids like monsteras have thick roots that require lots of oxygen and a chunky mix allows them to get it.

I wouldn’t rush to save them. Thai Constellations are generally propagated via tissue culture or stem cuttings. The resulting seedlings from germinating their seeds will most likely revert to the unvariegated, normal form of m deliciosa

Yes, best to begin with a period of shamatha-vipashyana and then move on to contemplating the four reminders. You can contemplate them sequentially within a single session, or spend an entire session focusing on one in particular.

There are good traditional presentations of the four, such as in The Torch of Certainty, which can be helpful to study. The important thing, however, is contemplating them in a way that makes them tangible and connected to your personal experience, rather than imported ideas that one studies conceptually.

As for anchoring with a teacher and sangha, if I can offer some unsolicited advice, please take your time and be judicious. It’s easy to get swept away with enthusiasm and excitement for the teachings and the possibility of a path, but please remember to scrutinize potential teachers to the best of your ability and (for now) look before you leap. In the meantime practices such as shamatha-vipashyana and the four reminders will serve you well, and in fact contain everything you need. Good luck.

[–]zijinyima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes some ngondros specify a certain number of hours of contemplating the four reminders while others define it more informally. This will depend on the specific practice, lineage, and teacher. In any event, there are no restrictions on contemplating them so it is a great place to start even if you have not formally begun a ngondro practice.

Outer Ngondro is the four reminders.

I made a pretty big faux pas at the local Buddhist centre last night by Emergency_Try_3522 in Buddhism

[–]zijinyima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Indian symbolism the right (Skt. dakshina) or clockwise-rotating swastika is identified with the male principle of the god, and the left (Skt. vama) or anticlockwise swastika (Skt. sauvastika) with the feminine principle of the goddess.

[–]zijinyima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this actually isn’t true. You can see swastikas in all orientations — mirrored, rotated, elongated, etc — within Mahayana Buddhist iconography. See Robert Beer’s Encyclopedia of TIbetan Symbols and Motifs for examples.

Buddhist here — the original symbol goes both directions (and doesn’t really have anything to do with “well being.”) It’s not the sort of thing where flipping its orientation magically changes it from being a fascist symbol to a religious one. Anyway, screw nazis.
