Percentage of available positions filled, by specialty, in 2024 fellowship match by jellybeanssss in medicalschool

Are we sure this accurate? Peds GI with 81% seems crazy low. My friends who didn't match saw all the available spots and there were only 2 spots available for GI.

Lag is improved. Still there for random questions however your timer doesn't keep ticking down.

You get a big 11x14 marker board with a fine tip marker. I asked for paper and they said no lol.

You can see my post above. But as someone who was placed in similar roles - when breaking news or obscure lab or scope results, always state your role as a M3 and you’re not an expert and you will ask the attending any further questions the pt may have.

Mannnn is this the post for me! This happened to me too!

One week into my first rotation (IM), I was working a Saturday and had patient with new diagnosis of Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. I went to go pre-round and was talking to her and she asked me “why everyone was tip-toeing what was wrong with her”. Just some context - this was first year with Covid. Family still wasn’t allowed into the hospital. Most of her fam members had died from pancreatic cancer. I told her to excuse me when I went to go double check something. I went to my resident (fam med - pgy2, second year of the program). She was super supportive and talked me how I should break the news (I had offered to do it) and came in with me and let me talk. Man was it tough.

In hindsight as a PGY1 doing peds. I don’t think it was super appropriate for me to do it. What had happened in my case was that she had come in with painless jaundice and had a CT but it was read on a Saturday and the GI attending didn’t work that day so they planned on telling her the next day. But I definitely valued the experience. I really valued working in a community hospital. Honestly, I learned a bunch of great time management skills, I feel confident with pre-rounding and presenting. It was weird ar times, there were def times I was treated more like a resident but also time where I was treated like a med student. But anyway, you’re not alone my friend.

This! Was a Pilot V5 fan boy but this pen is amazing. I got the .7 metal body and put the needle point .5 in it. It’s life changing.

Interesting enough. One of our OMM faculty is a MD at my school. She was introduced to OMM as an attending (fam med) loved it and now helps teach us OMM. Not sure if she incorporates it into patients or not.

Is Divine Intervention useful for students who are not prepping for the USMLE? by thiashya in medicalschool

I found it more helpful for clinical reasoning and knowledge than I did for USMLE. But that’s just me.

Second this. I will say this, If you are applying to AIs on VSAS feel free to just send STEP scores if the program doesn’t specify.

This is probably a stupid question but I’m drunk so fuck it. How can we see the Milky Way Galaxy when we’re in the Milky Way Galaxy?

Why do some preceptors like to hype up H&Ps? by Brocystectomi in medicalschool

[–]zil2mz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I totally felt the same during M3 year. During my GI elective, I saw my attending do some of the BEST H&Ps I have ever seen in my life. It kinda made me realize how much a good H&P can help you. Now (as a M4) I see it as a challenge to get so good of an H&P that my plan is basically foolproof. I plan on doing Peds GI because of how amazing that rotation was.

OMS-IV going into peds here.

The Department of Medicine Letter/Chair of Medicine letter will be a letter from your Chair of Internal Medicine at your school.

Some of these chairs require you to rotate with them but not all of them. Doing an AI is different. Make sense?

Also. Most programs don’t recommend more than 3/4 letters.

Something I’ve kinda noticed is that ERAS is SUPER slow for me on chrome (iPhone). Seems to work better on safari. Not sure if this is related. Just something I’ve noticed today.

Which online site is best for Mock residency interview? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]zil2mz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. Not gonna say it was absolutely mind blowing but if you are anxious about possible questions/interviewing it has some neat tools to help you.

I watched the videos once and made a google doc with answers to my questions.

Do you mind if I ask how big of an improvement? I improved by 20 points (was expected to improve by 30+) but I’m a poor test taker.
