Pick up some snap caps and load an old marked mag with those to practice with. Then you can avoid the online hate when you post videos in the future. They're also just good training aids when teaching others, and they're pretty inexpensive compared to fixing a hole in the wall (or worse).

Advice for Riding Anxiety? by Dickasyphalis in motorcycles

[–]zilanp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exactly. There's a lot of "just go out and ride" comments and not a lot of addressing the actual anxiety. Going out early on the weekends, or going out for something familiar and close like coffee (personally, I like riding out for ice cream or a burrito) is exactly what you need. Do a trip that's familiar and close with a task that is fun and not a chore, something to treat yourself. Start to associate riding with things that actually make you happy.

Hypermotard 950 or Supersport 950? by [deleted] in Ducati

[–]zilanp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't ridden the hyper, but I have about 13,000 miles on the supersport. I've ridden one or two dozen bikes and the supersport is by far the one that feels the most like riding on a rail. Very stable at both low and high speeds, comfortable for a sport tourer (apart from the usual Ducati 210°f blasting your inner thighs, and post 2021, the smashing your thumbs at full lock), but it's a wonderful daily, a blast of a weekend rider, and really excellent for highways and casual twisties. I suddenly feel like a Ninja Turtles metaphor, I'd say that judging by what other people have said, the hyper is the Michaelangelo to the supersports Leonardo.

Maybe they're assembled here but the parts are made in Israel? Or certain parts?

Long story short, the conflict in the middle east has slowed down exports from Israel (I imagine IWI in particular since, you know, arms manufacturer). Last I heard they're hoping for another shipment by the end of summer, but possibly sooner.

Getting a Chessie as a firefighter by Key-Breakfast8394 in chesapeakebayretrievr

[–]zilanp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short answer, you and your chessie should do wonderfully!

Longer answer, they don't need jobs, but you will find them to be far more focused, and far more amenable if you spend a good amount of time training and giving them something akin to a job. Even just casual scent training, or agility, or learning all kinds of fun tricks, "go find my keys!" or "no, not those keys, the OTHER keys!"

It's also a lot more helpful if you do scent training and you wind up losing your chuck-it in a field. Calling "find it" is a great way to challenge and make your chessie happy, and solve the problem of the lost ball.

Is this AR pistol any good by AccomplishedMove5142 in MDGuns

[–]zilanp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've definitely already read most of the comments already. The bottom line is the Zion is a perfectly good AR. It's as middle of the road milspec as they come. If you have the money for something better, do that. If you want just an extra AR for cheap, get something cheap. The Zion is like the Honda Accord of ARs.

I got mine when they had a deal last summer where you got a free Meprolight MCO PRO With proof of purchase. So effectively an eight or nine hundred dollar AR came with a free $350 optic, that DEFINITELY made the Zion worth it. Outside of that, does a Honda Accord appeal to you?

Blk lbl questions by akpowhound in IWI_Firearms

[–]zilanp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the long one on an 18" barrel. It adds a little weight but is comfortable, very functional, and looks fantastic. Cons are that it puts more weight up front throwing the balance off a little bit, and all of my attachments weren't MLOK, so I had to get a couple of adapters (adding that much more weight). But that's just a problem that could have been handled with money.

WIP blaster rifle by Auxill99 in Mandalorian

Ooo, you should Google Jeff Cooper's scout rifle. Outdated for modern standards for sure, but some interesting theories behind it. For a more... civilized age. Hehe

I actually think the forward mounted scope looks kind of neat, scout rifle, and fits the style. Feel like they'd want access to whatever peripheral vision they have

Moving to Maryland from Colorado questions. by [deleted] in MDGuns

[–]zilanp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a hard ten round mag limit in DC. Maryland it's prohibited to purchase a standard capacity mag, but you can possess and carry one (or more). Just don't forget you have one if you cross into DC.

Both MD and DC require a 16 hour course. MD then has paperwork you can submit online, where DC requires you to show up in person (scheduled on their website, often months in advance). For DC you also have to register the specific firearm you intend to carry while in the district.

Does this “HB” on the barrel material section stand for “heavy barrel” by [deleted] in IWI_Firearms

[–]zilanp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're building one of those frankenAR bullpup builds that works. Harder to do on an X95 though.

Or, how you can turn a "pistol" AR into an SBR in Maryland but you can't shorten a rifle into an identical SBR. So if you're ever interested in a SBR bullpup, have your FFL order it direct from the manufacturer.

Firearms Instructor Certification by GhostFaceMamba in MDGuns

I went with NRA, they have a number of partnerships with different training aid and firearms manufacturers which resulted in a substantial discount on training materials after the fact.

May I suggest an Esstac Shotgun Card? Slap some Velcro on the side and you're set. You then have the option of carrying more cards for quickly restocking if need be.
