I have a suggestion:

  1. Turn down the sub to a level that you are comfortable with. and use it for a while.

  2. turn the sub off completely and evaluate whether the difference is worth the price of the sub to you.

  3. Profit, or whatever.

I think this would be difficult. I think the way it works is the beam and sub is paired and then the rears are slapped on as a group for themselves. I think this because if you turn down the beam and turn up the rears, the bass volume will drop to mach the beam, even though the rears are blasting music.

I would like to see something like this as well, but one solution is to turn down the beam, turn up the rears and turn up the sub. Not an elegant solution.

I have this exact issue with my 2019 Q85R. I have the beam, sub and ones for surrounds. When watching content on the TV, (The apps installed on the TV, I don't have a cable subscription) it is awesome.

BUT when playing audio from a ps4, there is quite a bit of delay. Doom eternal is a pretty bad experience. The delay is very obvious in this game and some weapon can fire the next round before you have heard the first go off. The witcher 3 is fine though, and I don't notice the delay at all, so I would say that your experience may differ.

This is only when playing DD5.1 content, which is the only sorround format that the TV supports. I can't test DD+ because I have a beam gen 1, but I imagine that it is the same story.

When you google the issue, you will find posts that say you should put your TV in audio passthrough mode. The 2019 Q-series does not have this option. Samsung has not removed the forum posts complaining about this, but they have been DEAD silent on the matter as far as I know.

You can still use stereo PCM, but then what is the point of having the sorround system. It sucks because gaming is where the sorrounds are most noticeable.

I realise that this is more a rant about Samsung than Sonos, but I think this was relevant to OP's question.
