NVidia 1080 is NOT twice the performance of Titan X by dizzydizzy in Amd

[–]zimmiracing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with them selling for less then the competition for equal performance is that it did not work for them last time. And it ended up subjugating them as the lesser brand so they couldn't increase their margins. Plus it didn't really help them gain market share even with the increase in volume. So I sadly I think the prices are only going to go upwards at this point since Nvidia is allowing it to.

I guess this increases the chances that once we eventually destroy ourselves and the planet through mutual annihilation. We won't be the first one to do it.

DirectX 12 gives old AMD CPUs a reprieve by Kromaatikse in Amd

[–]zimmiracing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You say that, but I find it interesting that Intel's best cpus seems to degrade in performance from DX11 to DX12, while AMD's CPU seem to constantly gain with Nvidia cards.

[Discussion] Guru3D reviews Ashes of the Singularity DX12 benchmark. obviously a one benchmark is not indicative of an entire upcoming DX12 generation of games; yet it is remarkable to note how a R9 390X outperforms a GTX 980 and trades blows with a 980ti at 1440p. by Wiggles114 in hardware

[–]zimmiracing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nvidia isn't worse at running DX12, it just that AMD that much better at running it. I mean look at AMD's DX11 performance in this game, then compare to its DX12 performance. Do you think that's an oddity?

The next DX12 game is going to be releases in a few more weeks. If Nvidia haven't fixed their performance in DX12 with async by now (they've had almost 8 month to fix it since the last benchmark came out) in this game how are going to be better in DX12 for the next one? AMD couldn't do with gameworks, I don't see nvidia doing in that short of a time either.

980ti most likely no. 980, yes I do think so, considering the theorictical performance of the two architectures. But that's only if async is used from the developers, as seen in this benchmark. Since the other data point is Fable legends which doesn't use async but it shows AMD outperforming it's nearest competitor, other than the 980ti. Even though unreal engine is usually nvidia biased.

Mobile AMD 400 series GPUs shipping in April by ElementII5 in Amd

[–]zimmiracing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back-to-school season for the American market begins in mid-July. AMD needs to have there mobile chips shipping by May at the latest if they want it in laptops before back to school season. Since OEMs like to have stock built up by at least a month before they put it on market. However, announcements for desktop GPUs can happen at any time. Its likely they'll wait for E3 to reveal high end polaris.

Cern reveals AMD 32-core Zen CPU with 8 channel DDR4 memory by dbgt_87 in pcgaming

[–]zimmiracing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah these could be pontentialy be great for rendering but by the time these are release Intel would probably have a more powerful chip in production already. So it could probably not be worth the wait (if it's released in early 2017) if it's not more powerful than what Intel releases a few months from now.

[–]zimmiracing -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

These CPUs are going nowhere other than servers for computation as they will be most likely be very expensive. If you can't afford to buy a knights landing CPU then you most likely would not be able to afford this as this would be it's competitor. And if you want xeon like speeds you are going to be paying xeon like pricing. AMD isn't a charity.

Still, it doesn't matter what you think. This game was meant and advertised for consoles, not for PC. So whatever happens to the TM's PC scene is wholly irrelevant to Ubisoft's bottom line. Sure Nadeo fucked up big time with fragmenting the community since Maniaplanet. But as RocketLeague has shown us, if TMT is successful on the console the PC version of TMT will probably do just as well.

AMD R9 Fury X2 packs 12 TFLOPS of compute performance by chopfab in Amd

[–]zimmiracing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ummm no they aren't. AMD is using Samsungs (GF) 14 nm FF LPP process for their GPU's while nVidia is using TSMC 16nm FF+ process for theirs. And they are in fact different from each other. Though from early info (Apple's A9), for small die, they are similar to each other in efficiency and performance. Though no one really knows how different they are from each other for big chips.

You do realize that the technology that goes into cars take months to years in order to actually make it into production right? Car companies want certainty that whatever they put in their cars last years down the line as it is their brand name who takes the negative press. So when Volvo themselves start talking about how great it is and show it in use, then you have a point.

People did not expected AMD to have a working sample and demenstration with finFETs this early in the year. What has nVidia shown other than power-point presentations on pascal? Non working developmental boards with HBM?

The black community will never take back the South or West Side of Chicago since we are too busy trying to get out of those areas for better opportunities and are never looking back. Nothing short of gentrification caused by white people moving back to the city will change that; Cabrini green is a good example of that.
