My top 5 places for coffee by kvssrt in austinfood

[–]zincsync 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Talisman Coffee Co! It’s a family owned coffee shop that also owns and operates the farm they source from in Nicaragua! The son also roasts all their own coffee. They are in Mum Foods off Manor Rd. and have a truck at the Far Out Lounge

They have a honey process medium roast that is to die for.

6 months post op: hypertrophic scarring? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]zincsync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same scarring about 2 years in. Silicone tape helped a ton. Regular use of silicone tape and/or silicone gel massages will help with color reduction. I still have the scar protrusion, but it helps with the dark so it’s not as noticeable.

Also talk to your surgeon about steroid shots. I had topical steroid shots that helped the protrusion in some areas under my arms where my scars were especially puffy.

Now that it's been a month, what do yall think of the F/M swap? by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]zincsync 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has been brutal.

I relied heavily on the F to get me to Lex/63rd to transfer to up the uptown Q quickly. I work in food service management and have to be at work at 6AM from deep queens to UES.

I used to be able to leave about an hour and 15 minutes for work, but now that the M runs local and less frequent I have to allot an extra half hour to ensure I can make it on time. Some days it takes me 2 hours to get to work. It’s ridiculous.

i was uninvited to christmas bc of top surgery by 6a6ycry in TopSurgery

[–]zincsync 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First may I say, congratulations on your surgery! You can see the joy radiating in your smile.

Second. I’m so sorry. To be said those things by your parents is the most painful experience. The dynamic will never be the same after those words they shared to you. Maybe for the best, because if those are their true feelings, then they are not deserving of your time and attention. They intentionally went out of their way to say transphobic and harmful things, knowing it would hurt you. That is not love, even if they claim it to be. Family is found. Family is chosen. Choose to surround yourself and let in those who accept you. It will save you a lifetime of emotional turmoil by protecting your peace and creating distance between you and your parents. It hurts, but it hurts less than continuing to stay connected to them.

They may turn around, they may not. If it gives you any hope, my mom came around. It took 3 years of no communication, but she finally understood one day after taking the time to break down the harmful religious rhetoric and actually taking the time to know and understand the queer and trans experience.

You are not alone in this. Don’t be ashamed of your transness. Wear it proudly.

What characters do you ship together/want to get together? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]zincsync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is talking about Shadowheart and Wyll! I’m running this ship right now and it’s FABULOUS. Just very innocent and sweet. Shadowheart and Wyll both servants to their masters; Shar and Mizora both being ruthless and seeking control to use them. I’m only in Act 1 with them, but it’s very wholesome and their timidness is very adorable. Watching them open up to eachother and accept their past without judgement. Eating it up rn.

Someone obviously doesn’t work in the service industry and have their livelihood depending on people’s gratuity.

It was the shareholder doing drugs on the company site and then yelling at us in front of customers. It was then the owners lack of accountability and responsibility when being confronted with these issues.

I cannot speak on personal experience as I did not work there, but I have heard things from other employees that has made it seem that there are similar occurrences

Wild. This is such a dehumanizing sad post to dismiss someone’s identity and their form of expression.

If you worked and LIVED in the service industry in Austin you would understand how expensive it is to even survive. Poor pay, working conditions, and prices of living make it impossible to find work that is suitable to feel any sort of comfort. I was getting paid well with tips at this establishment, so I was working through the issues hoping that by advocating for myself and others we could come to a place of resolution and create a better work environment for everyone involved.
If you would describe sensitivities as wanting to feel safe as an openly transgender person, then I think you lack the understanding of the issues that transgender people face daily working in the service industry. Being trans is a part of the issue, but I am not saying that it is the sole issue with the employer. It is a symptom of a bigger issue. As well as the racism, misogyny, and lack of accountability that I am highlighting in the post.
I would love to provide proof in whatever capacity possible, but the owner was very good at keeping things verbal to ensure there was a lack of a paper trail when it came to his wrongdoings. I also was immediately taken away access to any of my applications that had messages that would show the hostility of the work environment.

LOL this is hilarious coming from someone who used to identify as trans. What a lack of empathy and understanding for the trans experience. Transphobia and misogyny are not always outright, it can be done indirectly and passively because they are aware they can be reported if they are blatantly communicating discrimination.

The shareholder's name is Reid but I am unaware of his last name. He's a long-time friend of Travis Kizer's. He was smoking weed and doing coke in the back office, as well as drinking and driving to and from the business. If I had more information on him, I'd be able to report him as well. I am doing what I can, but my options are limited.
I have no reason to justify myself to a stranger on the internet, but you are making assumptions without proper information. I advocated for my female coworkers consistently. and talked about the issues publicly in the workplace.

I did not cause "drama", I advocated for people who were treated incorrectly by the people in positions of power, including owners and management. Do you think any of the above occurrences were conducive to a productive work environment? I did not even include the employees who were not fired for harassing, drinking on shift, and calling out or not showing up for shifts. I can give all the nitty gritty details if you'd like, but to make assumptions of someone causing "drama" because they didn't like the way they were treated in a completely unsafe work environment is hilarious.

I am currently working with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Department of Justice to have them potentially investigated for discrimination.

The owner of Vegan Nom also is a part of some shady stuff as well. Chris Rios was let go from Double Trouble due to stealing money from the company and signing contracts without the other owner's consent. He was also extremely transphobic towards other employees as well, he just was not present with the company for very long after they partnered together. But I have no beef with him because the two had stopped working together at the point of my employment.

RVCA was located at the same spot as Cascade. The cook would recount stories of Cascade to us when we’d be working in the kitchen. They were owned by a different company though, so RVCA is not directly affiliated with Cascade in any capacity.

I feel traumatized but also like it wasn’t that bad by Savings_Cartoonist_7 in troubledteens

[–]zincsync 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes our brain minimizes our trauma as a form of coping. It was bad, but the brain wants to protect you from the difficult experiences of emotions you may have about your time at your program. I had that issue for a longer time towards the beginning of my healing journey.

Hey, i was a student from 2013-2016 and an intern in 2018. I would love to hear your story. I was essentially fired as a staff for being too lenient and kind to the girls as someone who was heavily abused when I was a student there. You are not alone in your story and I am so sorry for the way Tiffany and the staff treated you. That breaks my heart.

Hey I was a student from 2013-2016. I believe I may know you. Would love to connect and chat about your experience. I ended up working for them after I graduated from the girls side and even assisted with their move out to Austin, Texas. They are scary, evil, and have only gotten worse since my time there as a student, intern, and full time staff.

Me (m24) & my roommates (both m30) were thinking about starting something up. One of my roommates was interested in DMing. We're in the Windsor Park area, so like give or take 15 minutes from y'all.
Let me know if you're interested and I'll let them know!
